    Wow, this video really enlightened me to the ideals of passing the ball. Instead of doing an air dribble double tap and missing the open net, I should just hit the ball to my teammate to miss the wide open net. Now that my teammates are missing instead of me, it's no longer my fault that I'm losing, it's my teammates fault. Since losing is no longer my fault, I no longer have stress playing Rocket League. Who knew that passing would open up a stress free way to play this game!

    This is so accurate, I've been playing RL for 8 years now and I was wondering what changed. I never noticed that pro players don't really pass anymore, but it makes so much more sense now. I used to pass a lot and I've had to adjust my playstyle because teammates are not ready for passes most of the time. I'm having way less fun in RL since the last 2 years and this explains a lot. I've mained a support type role in every game I've played, video or real life. Hitting a dime of a pass to a teammate to put them in a great position has always been way more exciting than sinking the shot. Getting someone else involved in success is almost always more fulfilling than doing it myself. It's been hard adjusting in RL, but man when you get a teammate who's willing to wait a second for a good opportunity, very few things feel better. Thanks for making a video for the "support", pass-first players.

    Man watching old clips of Lachino makes me feel so nostalgic. Their passing clips look insane and it's always been a fun part of the game. I think the biggest issue people have with passing is the trust they have to put on another stranger, setting aside their ego and pride and putting the fate of a goal in the hands of someone they quite frankly don't trust.

    I only play with a guy i close friends with for 25 years. So the trust is there. We are plat3 splitscreeners. We try to pass all the time, but often find it difficult to get speed on the pass, it often doesnt reach the target. I think it has been too long since Sunless sucked if he is gonna claim technical skill isnt a factor when it comes to passing. When the ball is traveling downfield, it is def easier to hit the ball downfield than it is to suddenly hit ball 90° to the left or right, for example.

    Simple shooting is a giant hole in a hell of a lot of players games. I'm also shocked at how often people just plain old 100% whiff so often. I can understand messing up the shot a little and it not going in, but not even touching the ball routinely? It's baffling. Are we as a player base spending so much time practicing air dribbling that simply making contact with the ball and sending it towards the net is completely neglected?

  • @HillHomeGaming

    @HillHomeGaming

    Жыл бұрын

    @@cmdrfunk Well. Think to ANY major sport. What is the very first thing you work on every year in practices? The most basic level stuff. The fundamentals. Most people working on resets, air dribs, double or triple taps, etc assume their mastery of the basics until... they completely whiff the ball and then rage at their team mates about their own mistake. At which point they go full toxic and become unhelpful (or actively play for the other team) or just give up. One of the other important basic skills in games is managing your mental and emotional reactions to a bad situation, a whiff, a missed shot on an open net, the other team dunking on you, whatever it is. In the Rocket League Community (and honestly ANY online gaming community) well... they all fail hard at that basic skill. Unless someone makes you practice those basics you'll find very few people who want to spend a bit of time on the basic skills - everyone instead wants to practice the flashy moves for fame and glory (or at least tiktok viral clips these days). I mean there are basic skills I still suck at. I'm awful at Dribbling. I work on it here and there but I play this game to have a few drinks and some fun with friends not to be "seriously competitive" so perhaps my thinking is just off compared to everyone else.

    I grew up with Football, and my fundamentals of the sport is so ingrained to my brain that i feel lost if i dont pass in RL. It's the same sports and the same fundamentals apply here like in Football. I have also noticed that a few years ago when Mech where starting to catch more and more eyes and people were told to go free play to practice their air dribble bumps, their double flip resets and their double flip reset to back board read YY ladder stall across the map throwing knife goals that people forgot what we are playing. Yes being a Messi and going past players and being able to Solo at times is great, but what's even more great is team play and setting people/your team up for success over your own ''greatness'' is so much more satisfying and fun. Now when i pass it feels like people get confused or if im in a passing position and my team mates goes solo and messes up leaving me in a shit spot is somehow my fault. The game has changed and i feel like it's not for the better. The game has become very selfish and toxic because of it...wish we could go back to old School rocket league where We Dem Girlz, Gale Esports, FlipSid3 Tactics ruled the game with extreme team play and passing plays. Now we have 15 year old kids thinking they need to be the one on the field doing everything....it's so lame now

    The funny thing is that i actually go for a lot of passing plays especially when playing with friends but then i usually end up laughing at them for missing my 6th open net pass. Anytime there is an assist challenge i dread it bc i know even tho I'll only go for passes my tm8s will just mess it up somehow or be gone in Narnia while the ball slowly rolls in front of an open net.

  • @oakesclassic6294

    @oakesclassic6294

    Yea that’s the tough thing. That’s a key aspect to good players too, just being in the right place at the right time. You can make plays by just being where you need to without doing anything crazy complex. As a passer you gotta try to aim for a certain window of opportunity where your teammate can attack. And if your teammate is passing to you, you have to anticipate the pass and sense the opportunity. I think so many people focus way too much on flashy stuff that they just have no game sense

  • @itzkiblo

    @itzkiblo

    @@oakesclassic6294 i cant tell you how many times i play 3s, dribble down the field to the net, pass it middle, and turn around to see both my tm8s in our back corner 😂. The good thing is when playing with friends we usually play expecting passes but we still suck so its still easy to miss the easiest passes but solo queing your tm8s never trust that you can make it all the way down the field so while youre popping off and getting ready to pass it to them, they have ball cam off looking for that juicy corner boost or theyve already flung through the air trying to take the ball from you and missed.

    Yeah I'm D3 (2v2) and I try to use pass a lot but at my level knowing where the ball is, where my tm8 is and knowing where I'm going at the same time can be hard. For that I think for diamond/champ space awareness is more important than any air dribble mechanic. Also I found the quick chat "Passing" to be super useful. It's probably one of the chats I use the most, both for telling my tm8 to be ready to receive a pass and to ask him to pass. When asking for a pass, it works around 1 time out of 2 which is pretty good considering how stubborn diamonds are (if I don't ask for a pass in quick chat almost no one ever gives me one). Often they just ignore it and go ahead and fail their diamond flick or go for a miserable 50/50 when there's 2 people in the net and it would be so easy to just push it to the side to me. I really think the best thing in the game is to receive a perfect pass from your tm8 from the side and smash it in the net or slow down and go for a little fake/air dribble. When I try to pass often my tm8 is not ready and is too far, or he's in a rush for no reason and goes for a demo and the ball just rolls behind him. Or I lack power and the opponent just cuts it between me and my tm8. I think playing with friends with comms has the most potential for passing plays but I play with almost only lower ranked guys and I'd rather not try with them. Anyway, that was a big rant but you have no idea how grateful I am that Sunless just made a video on that I feel exactly like him. I'm so upset that passing has such a high potential and no one around me sees it (even dudes who have been playing since f*cking 2015 how have you never tried something different in 7 years!!) I hope it's better in champ but I'm not too optimistic.

Nobody wants the guy who doesn't pass the ball. Yes, we know that you have all the statistics at 99, and that you are probably God in life. But, it's not about you, it's about the team. As a playmaker type RL player (passing and good ball control, but not the best shooter) I hope more people realize passing is such a good tactic in the game. The amount of times I make a huge passing play and my team is following me for their solo turn is mind blowing, just stay back and read the play and I will feed you the ball. I feel like a lot of folks who play actual sports can play RL better and know how to have game sense. When you have gamers who do not play a lot of team sports jump into a TEAM game like RL it's hard for them to understand that they do not have to be the guy touching the ball the whole game

Proper game sense and positioning will get you much much further than backboard flick double taps, but it's also difficult to train game sense on your own. Been playing for years and always tended to play the role of support mostly because my mechanics weren't nearly as good as my friends who started playing before me. As my game sense and positioning got better and I could control myself better in the air I actually found it more of a challenge to put the ball in play for my friends to execute a shot and got a kick when it worked. To this day when I play, I play to pass and create buttery smooth quick plays that ultimately has the team getting amped up and vibing without one another instead of 2 of the 3 getting frustrated because the most mechanical of the team is trying to carry the whole team every game and then getting annoyed when their aerial razzle dazzle is so badly telegraphed Stevie Wonder could see the air dribble coming a mile away

Chill out! try goofing around a bit go for dumb plays and I swear you will have so much more fun even if you are losing. (also i got do D3 in 2s playing like this so it kinda works lol.)

    Personally, the reason I don’t go into the position to receive a pass from my teammate is because even if they try to pass, it might not be a good pass, or I might get beaten to the ball by the opposition, and so it feels like over committing. I feel like a lot of players stay further back as the second man not just to wait for their turn to solo play, but also to try to avoid over committing and giving away a free goal. (In champ 1)

    exactly, i dont trust myself to catch the ball, and i dont trust my teammate to pass it well. @ASB4nD1t05

    @@MrBsehratmaannking I agree in some way but trying to play to compensate for your teammate flaws just make you create bad habit in the end. People care so much about there rank that they forget that the real progression in this game is the way you play !!! Not the way you always stay back to keep your rank. You will win more game at a certain rank sure, but the moment you're playing with a better teammate, they will hate you because you're never in position to keep the momentum going. Its about playing the position you're in. First guy challenge the ball no matter what (win or lose), the second guy staying close to the first guy to beat the opposite player at the 50/50, the third only enter the play if he's not contest to the ball. That is why in professionnal sport you see a player dominating at a certain level all by themself but the moment he step to the next level, he become useless because he never learn to play the right way. Like in rocket league, players at high diamond low champ trying to make sick flip reset goal but the moment they step into GC they became useless because people wont let them even set up a flip reset. If your goal is to make it to GC, sure you can do it just by being safe and boring. If you want to make it to the next level, you need to use your teammate and the better way to do it is to be in position for a pass. If he miss a open pass, you cant blame yourself for not being back.

    You’ll never get better as well as other players that do the same if you don’t put yourself in uncomfortable positions it’s the only way you learn and figure out whats the better option in future games even in the current game If you position yourself right you can beat your opponent to the ball but if you know you’re going to be beat force your opponent to make a bad touch because a lot of the time players especially Diamond to low Champ from my experience panic and don’t get the best touch if you overcommit you’re most likely going to get scored on but if you just show like you’re about to challenge by playing up and then turn around whenever your opponent tries to clear it you most of the time have a free ball to take back to your half set up a better opportunity for you and your teammate(s) and go from there. I know for me it’s just as sunless said we’re not going to make it pro a lot of us know that 😂 but we still like to play at a high fast pace level, if 7 or 8 out of 10 games our teammates play back it doesn’t make the game fun and the FF’s come out and everyone just ends up stuck or going down ranks. If you want to play it safe just stick to casual less stressful more carefree 🤷🏽‍♂️

    IMO as a coach/player with thousands of hours on the game I believe that a good balance of passing/solo plays or bumping are very impactful if done so correctly. You definitely don't want to be on one end or the other though. If your team only passes the ball, your opponents should adapt and start cutting off those passes, making it dangerous in 2v2. Now if its a 2v1 in favor of your team I think that either a passing play or someone takes posession and the other goes for demo is the best course of action. If you try to pass in 2v2 and it fails, you have no support and that leads to chances for your opponents to take possesion and score. but really- Whos gonna actually pass in ranked ?? XD

    So true and it's why I hate playing doubles, half the matches your teammate expects you to take turns doing 1vs2 attempts while one is sitting in the back field. In 3s it is at least somewhat expected of you to rotate but you still get the odd player trying to solo, doing wonky off the wall airdribbels that end up being countered into our goal... It's funny the best modes for passing plays are dropshot, snowday, but even hoops and rumble. Good passing plays in those modes just work well and I think most people have figured that out.

    My buddy who is a former rlcs champion got me into this game. He taught me passing when I was at 0 hours and I have continued to use it heavily. Every rank below c3 is just bad at passing. Giving and receiving. As you move up from there it becomes a lot more fun because people are watching the play develop and understand where to be to receive a pass. I think this hard barrier to seeing passing is part of why they don't happen. People don't experience passes until they are seasoned veterans of the game now. Their minds aren't malleable enough, so it never gets incorporated after that.

If the first time you do so they fail to contact, that's when the second issue comes. Should they expect you to pass the ball again, when most of the people, once they pass and their teammates just back up, would try to do the thing on their own? When you experience this kind of situations again and again, it starts to feel like ''I'm mad IDGAF'' mood. So eveyone is angry and avaricious, it's just them and the ball.

    if there is every a RL video that i feel it is this. so many times im centering and passing the ball whilst my teammates decide to race back and sit on the goal line ready to make a save and take their turn at a solo play.

    Its amazing to see the visual confusion when I pass to teammates in 3v3 in Diamond. Its takes like 3 seconds for them to process what just happened. Thankfully no opponent positions themselves to intercept a pass so they usually have time to snap out of it.
