I have used old refrigerator crisper drawers on work benches. They are made of metal, have a lip on both sides and the back, and they come with their own handle. Plus there is no wasted space, cause you require only clearance space, which is minimal between the top of one and the bottom of the other. Every refrigerator on the side of the Road comes with 2. Keep the matching pair stacked, because they can be different widths from one refrigerator to the next.

What I find is also handy for nails, screws, bolts, etc is clear plastic bottles with a square base, screw top and a handle stood on a shelf. You can see what's in there and with a square base they stand next to each other efficiently and the handle good for grabbing them off the shelf. Its easy to pour a few out into a small pot to do jobs with and put the rest back on the shelf so no risk of spilling the lot on the floor.

Oh my goodness. U my friend are an absolute genius. This has got to be the coolest, handiest, and most clever diy I've seen on KZread. Reading through the comments let's u know there are so many of us who keep things cuz we might need them 1 day, and plastic jugs r big bulky take up space but we will not throw them away lol we have been saving them for this project right here, my husband is gonna lose his mind when he goes in his garage to find it organize using my plastic jugs. Thank u this really is Good Advice.

Can you believe someone commented what's so spectacular about this? here's what I replied and spectacular thing it said he took the time to share! You see, every time we can help another not have to reinvent their "wheel"; i.e. tool to solve MANY problems, both current & future problems, not only themselves; but for many others who are intelligent & humble enough to try someone else's well-planned Solutions, adjusted 2 their own needs: COST-EFFECTIVE STORAGE that CREATES ACCESS, w/o REDUCING valuable playspace, workspace and/or floor space is a problem that everyone from infants to elderly are challenged with daily; not only in garages or storage areas; but also in playrooms, utility rooms, laundry rooms, bathrooms, closets, as well as cabinets in kitchens, pantries, workrooms, bedrooms, porches & gardening areas. Home, Work, Events, Recreation, Church, Athletic, Health, & Volunteer work areas such as: charity donation/ distribution stations, health fairs, off-site temporary or remote work stations or living accommodations can all benefit from this inspirational and professional innovation!

You know...this is the reason I can't move around in my garage. I keep things like these jugs "just in case I might need it for something." Great idea, something I'd definitely do myself, but you'd have to see how much stuff I've held onto just for situations like this. Being handy is both a blessing and a curse, sometimes.

Yes me too ENOUGH... A tool short here and there, just saying.. can't say youre a minimalist if you hang onto stuff like this .. frugality for sure, saving things from the landfill, hell yeah,. But realistically are you gonna complete all those projects before your health fails.. again love the thoughts, ideas, and empowerment behind the videos, it just seems like you are always missing that shim or screw that makes you run back to the store ..wish there were more community action centers where people could share there extra supplies, tools, design builds etc.. a builders center type for the community...

I've fabricated similar, and what I like about the plastic from these kinds of containers is that it's seemingly almost indestructible while, in comparison, the plastic used for purpose made fastener trays (like what you'd find in your typical big box DIY center) seems to crack in short order. And while my dad did use the baby jar idea so many many years ago, I like to use clear plastic vitamin jars instead, if only because there's obviously less risk of breakage. Well, that's my 2 cents worth...

You may want to add 4 or 5 inches to the back of the runners when you build the drawer so the holder doesn’t just drop out of the hole when you pull the drawer form under the counter. This will help a person weaker wrists to be able to get a hand under the drawer as it is being pulled out.
