I did it. You didn't. "Conquest of Paradise"

Фильм және анимация

Sanchez: [Columbus stops Sanchez after he leaves an audience with the Queen. Sanchez looks at him, disgusted] You're a dreamer.
Columbus: [shooting a glance out of a window] Tell me, what do you see?
Sanchez: [pausing to look] I see rooftops, I see palaces, I see towers, I see spires that reach... to the sky! I see civilisation!
Columbus: All of them built by people like me.
[Sanchez doesn't respond - shocked]
Columbus: No matter how long you live, Sanchez, there is something that will never change between us. I did it. You didn't.
Arojaz: [Looking at Columbus from a distance after the discovery of America is attributed to Amerigo Vespucci] What a tragedy. What a waste of a life.
Sanchez: A waste? Well, if your name or mine is ever remembered it will only be because of his.

Armand Assante's character arc is truly one of the gems of this movie. He went from doubting Columbus, downplaying his importance, even working against him, to eventually seeing the errors of his ways and truly realizing the greatness of what Columbus has achieved in the very end of the movie.

I never understood why this film got a bad rep I mean Braveheart for example is incredibly historically inaccurate, but has a massive following. Sitting aside the inaccuracies i still thought this film was really good.

There wouldn’t be a new world without Colombus, he believed in it, and he did it, he made it to the new world. Although he wasn’t the first to reach the Americas, he was the first to reach the new world. He did it, I’m glad he has the credit for it in modern day.

In case there's any confusion, the discovery may have been Columbus', but the navigation of the entire continent earned Amerigo Vespucci the naming in the early 1500's. Granted there are major inconsistencies with his logs, charts and manuscripts,..but the naming was largely a politically facilitated slap to Columbus. The First takes all the risk,..then the charlatans appear in droves. Always the way.

A group of vikings landed there, yes. Never returned back to tell others. Their likes never colonised it. So in effect discovery was for them, on that trek, and them alone. Columbus however, even if he didnt know he discovered a new land mass, he ushered in the beginning of the biggest land migration from one continent to another in human history. To which we still feel the reporcussions today. That's why that moment eclipses all other moments, I would argue in all of human history. Columbus 1492 was that moment.

@@blayzertrayl8929 Of course they returned, they returned back to Iceland. This has been scientifically proven with DNA, mitochondrie. A tiny group of native Icelanders share a common mitochondrial DNA with natives of US, meaning vikings took a woman with them and she had a daughter etc

in my opinion, Columbus is more "Moses" for Christianity than what is being portrayed in the scene. by the way, the fall of Granada scene(?) where Columbus meets the Spanish Queen for the first time, is the movie implying that the Spanish plundered Granada to fund Columbus' expedition? or am i letting my imagination fill in the blank?
