"I'd never PUNCHED anyone before..!" - NIGEL BOSWORTH

Спорт

'Boz' as he's better known is a former 250cc British Champion, test rider for Kenny Roberts, BSB Team Manager and the man who was at the sharp end of setting up the Foggy Petronas WorldSBK team. We chat about his career, punching Alan Carter, eight-up on a moped, the origins of Foggy Petronas (which dovetails nicely with the Jack Valentine chat of two weeks ago) and Boz gives his side of the James Haydon story... It's an entertaining chat!

I really got into this one. Nigel came across really well. I lost my son recently and your content (among others' of course) helps to get me through the days and nights. Just a zombie at the moment tbh cos i'm only sleeping maybe 2 hours a night. I don't know where i'd be without my dog Tino tbh. Sorry guys....i'm slavering on a bit now. All the best.

Mark we're so sorry for your loss here at Off Track; it's quite humbling to read that you've taken solace in our show and the others you listen to as well. I'm so glad we can help you in some really small way. There are very few words I can offer, that's for sure, but Tino will absolutely be a great source of support for you and please just take things day by day, it's no bad thing to do that. Look after yourself and Tino and thank you for watching our show :-)

I must admit when I first noticed your podcasts I thought 'another podcast....' but you're absolutely bringing out something new here. Not only by getting some really great guests who were big in the 80s and 90s and who have been unfairly pushed into the shadows when we think about riders from back in the day, but also your interviewing technique really gets some new insights out of them. It's definitely not more of the same. I'd sort of forgotten about Boz but saw him loads of times and he was great 250 rider, really good to bring him back to mind. When you interviewed Simmo he mentioned racing against Ashley Law on the roads. Ashley actually runs a bike tuning business nowadays at Swinton, near Mexborough, Swinton Performance Centre. I had a dyno run there a few years ago now and a quick chat with him about his racing. Might be another willing victim of your roving mic?

Absolutely loved this from start to finish , as an ex racer 1976 / 1983 I connected in what was talked about in so many ways , the ups n downs of pit life in the best years of my life , I finished racing 125 250 far too early after I became Auto 66 250 champion in 82 I had a win on a 125 in 83 when the owner got injured n that was that I ended up working the club doors for the next 12 yrs not even going to any race meetings or reading MCN missing the racing scene loads, but the odd time I did read anything the name Nigel Bosworth came up n that’s why I watched it , I heard the name Steve Thompson mentioned with Foggy Petrona if this is the same lad who raced a Lotec 50 in the late 70s then what awesome people him n his dad were n the bike was a work of art , clearly a great addition to any team , thanks so much for the podcast I’ll be watching them more wishing I’d kept on racing

@@OffTrack_Podcast I am sorry to tell you but this podcast is complete fantasy, although its a great tale. I first met Nigel in club meeting in 1981 at Donnington. Dean Askin won and was long gone, I was in a race on an X7 with an LC and three other X7s. Trevor Clow was second on the LC, I was third and Nigel was behind me with Dave Butler and Andy Muggleton on X7s the only time in the whole year I actually raced others on X7s, memorable because we were all wobbling at the same places in the same rhythm (the frame flexed). I next met him at Brands on a practice day at Brands before the 1982 season started we were doing exactly the same lap times and got talking. We both did the Marlboro championship that year, Mick Crick was the best rider and won it, also won rider of the series and got a Rotax 250 as the prize. Trevor, Andy Nigel and a few others from Hinkley/ Stoke Golding were all mates at the time and I stayed at Nigels house once while sorting a "deal" to buy the Bedford CF van he mentions Trevor Clow was the owner. I realise you can delete comments or mute them so only I can see them. I actually invite you to because I dont wish Nigel any harm, he was a great, hard fast rider who learned quickly.. But that doesnt allow him to live on fantasy island. There are loads of pictures on FB and elsewhere of him and the Stoke Golding crew" on racing X7.

Another good podcast episode. I was there that day Boz lost the title. It was a mad race. I can still remember seeing Sawford entering the pits after the race and just dumping his bike on the floor in joyous delirium. Was in the BSB paddock for 2001 so remember that year well too. I was also at the Foggy Petronas team launch. Had many a free beer despite it being in the afternoon. Still got my frame-less photo of the bike somewhere that they were handing out. I was very disappointed in Boz after hearing what James had to say. But maybe faults on both sides. Boz came across well in this episode. Didn't he also date Foggy's sister at one point? If Boz needs a new career, he should sign up with equity and get a job playing Syd James in a biopic.

As for Boz, the mic was high on his collar so it will pick up sharp in breaths etc, sadly we’re a victim of our own quality - and as I’m not a sound engineer I haven’t the skills to remove them but I do my best 😊

@@OffTrack_Podcast it's probably because I'm a moaning old drummer who's had a lot of bad sound engineers lol. Either that or the radioactive stuff in my van has fried my brain.

Best reply ever 😂 I’ll always give a decent and honest response to any questions on the sound/vision because I do it all and want it to be as good as I can make it 😊

Brilliant Dave, but boz was a bit disrespectful to sawf I felt. A championship is won over a season, not the last round. Ah well, the same thing happened when he was managing stalker when he lost a championship. Not great at last lap showdowns is boz. 😂😱@stevesawford

Tough sport at times and the course of a championship rarely runs smooth - there’s little love lost between the two, that’s for sure but time softens the edges as it goes on. I’m in touch with Sawf regularly, another top fella like Boz
