This video is brought to you by www.lowbrowcust...
In this informative tutorial, Tyler goes over Mikey's 2000 Harley-Davidson Sportster Chopper Build end to end and answers the question we have been getting a lot of lately. From gas tank and fender mounting ideas, to how to tackle your oil bag, sissy bar, battery box and rear brake location issues. Tyler shows you how easy it is to build the chopper of your dreams utilizing everything we have to offer here at Lowbrow Customs. Our job here is to give you the highest quality parts all while helping you get the job done right. So follow a long and get some great ideas on how you can finish that chopper project of yours.

    I think the big gap in the custom chopper market is education on chopper building. Videos like these are great, because it actually educates people on how to customize their choppers. So many great bikes, so many great parts, but many people lack the knowledge or feel intimidated by welding and other customization work. If there was a book, or a course, or something that would show the process from start to finish, maybe with a multitude of examples. Like 1. Buying a stock bike (what to look out for, what to avoid, what are some tipps and tricks, how to choose the right engine and make), 2. stripping the parts, 3. what to do first, 4. when to get help, etc, etc... those are just some examples. I would love for something to exist.

    Very well done. You guys are hands down the best thing out there for the custom bike industry. Nobody puts as much effort / parts / and tech info into helping people create the bike of their dreams. Not to mention the fact that almost every part you talked about was made right here in the good old U.S.A. Cheers ! Guy Speight

    If you switch to a dyna S ignition and coil ( lowbrow sells them) and buy a mechanical advance also,, it eliminates the VOES and electronic ignition (black box) I’m doing this myself I got rid of all stock wiring and controls Only stock wiring is the two wires coming from stator to volt regulator and I kept the other wire from volt regulator to the power and power wire from starter to power,, and if u go with push button starter for solenoid (lowbrow sells it) You won’t need starter switch,, Basically 3 circuit breakers 3 way key switch Very slick only bout 10 wires total Awesome set up No turn signals, no horn, just headlight, brake light, and key switch It’s the best sleek chopper wiring I’ve seen,,, And easy to add horn, turn signals later if desired,,,, Only thing that some might not like is because of dyna S ignition with mechanical advance with it there is No Rev limiter,,, Which I like But others might not...

    Absolutely gorgeous bike, and so much plan to do a build like that. Currently riding a Softail custom. One problem I've found with stock Evo Sportsters is that the stock transmission is under-geared. Meaning that the guys riding them complain that they are running high engine revs when keeping up with our Twin Cam and M8 Harleys. What is needed is a trans and sprocket setup that will give a decent low gear start from 'stop' and also allow lower engine rpms at highway speeds. Any suggestions?

  • @lowbrowcustoms

    @lowbrowcustoms

    3 жыл бұрын

    gearing can change that a bit. and front pulley is super easy to get to. Changing the bike to chain drive, you can slap in a different size main drive sprocket easily. www.gearingcommander.com this is a calculator to determine the gearing you want to do for speeds you want.

    The sportster platform makes alot of sense for unique individual builds,the only thing that's always made me not like the rigid framed sportsters is the finished product always looks too long,mostly the space between rear wheel and motor and for me throws off the lines of a traditional rigid but also with the understanding that a sportster motor is very compact and wouldn't have good ergonomics if the wheel base was shorter to accommodate the look.anyways,lowbrow parts look quality and won't give you headaches down the road.

    Adding the entire list of parts that are used on this specific bike the retail price is at $2205.00 not including tax or shipping costs. The great thing about bike building, is it doesn't have to be every single one of those parts, you can find somethings at swap meets, or reuse your stock brake set up and or get creative and make things yourself too. There are tons of ways to budget your build the way you want. We are just trying to show all the options that we have a available to build a bike like this if you didn't have to be budget conscience. Another great help with builds like this is if you buy a nice stock bike for 3k and it has a lot of nice parts on it, you can resell those to then use that money to get the parts you really want. All kinds of great ways to build the chopper of your dreams. Hope this answer helps.. cheers - Mikey

    They should work, you may have to get additional wire for extending possibly depending on certain locations you are trying to move key switches and or what not, but that kit is very helpful. we are working on 04-up, reason they dont is the 04-up sportsters are rubber mounted frames. They are in the works though and will be coming soon! keep your eyes peeled

    sadly all of this is impossible for me since weld-on hardtail kits are illegal in Germany. Any alteration of the frame will extinguish the road legality of the bike

    @@lowbrowcustoms I've had it for about 30 years. It's a 70 something TR6 motor in a 65 frame with a girder front end and a bolt on hard tail. I'm thinking I would rather have a solid hard tail frame instead and a standard front end.

    @@naturalforlife6741 we make a bolt on hardtail frame that you can take your swing arm components off easily and convert it to a hardtail. but switch back if you ever had to. much more complicated to add rake. you need a jig table, and you gotta calculate the right trail for said rake you are doing so that it doesn't ride like garbage. It's not the funnest job but doable

    This bike is destined to be yet another loud, raucous H-D chopper - the very kind of bike that has turned off millions of new young riders and has helped depress new sales in the entire US motorcycle industry for 20 years now. On the other hand, the road and mountain bicycle industry loves ya!
