Wow I noticed a shift immediately after watching. I asked myself is there tension in my body right now? Am I unconsciously trying to be perfect (perfectionism) and ALL of a sudden a huge burden lifted and my body felt lighter, more flexible and pain free almost instantly. Thank you so so much for sharing your experience. You’ve just changed my life.

I'm 42 and have been dealing with Ankylosing Spondylitis for 20 years. I've been working out for years and I have pain all the time because the older I get the more my cartilage disappears. The limp from the flare up is happening to me now along with my neck and between my shoulders. All I have to say is learn your body and try to eat as heathy as possible along with staying hydrated. I always try organic medicine and stretching if not able to go to the gym to exercise.

The thing is people can have milder versions of it . I have a co-worker who has it and doesn’t need to take anything but an anti-inflammatory. I on the other hand am taking a plethora of medication including biologics and heavy medication. But that being said I exercise and try to balance my stress which help to avoid unnecessary flares. This disease looks different for everyone like most autoimmune diseases. Find what works best for you.

Stress and wrong diet can trigger the rheumatic flaire ups. I still have the pain, when i feel better yesterday, today after waking up lower back and around the hips and upper back is somewhat stiff and aches.

I don't think you have AS. Stress may be detrimental to the condition but it cannot explain the fusion of joints or damage to eyes etc. I remember seeing the exhibition in newcastle called 'bodyworks' by Gunter von hagen and the most striking display was a man with AS. No wonder it is sometimes referred to as 'bamboo spine'. I had various symptoms from the age of 16 but didn't get diagnosed until I was 50. I consider myself fortunate as I still lead a pretty full life. I watch some of these videos and read some of the comments. Sometimes a little nugget of information is useful but there is also alot of misleading nonsense which just causes confusion and in some cases false hope. I wish the AS community all the best in finding a way to live with this condition and hopefully the medical world will find a cure sometime soon. Best wishes

@originalorganic6885 Hey AS diagnosed here for nearly ten years, it does affect people differently. Exercising to your limits ( doing the most you can without injuring yourself regularly) does help with fatigue. Although it is a progressive disease it is possible to slow it down by keeping active. As far as your question with breathing the illness affects your bones as you know and in my instance it has caused to constrict my ribs in theory squeezing my lungs slightly so every so often I find myself taking large breaths and tensing to combat this. As I’m unaware of the severity of AS you have keeping active and not sitting or lying for too long will be best if possible.

AS is a murky and highly individualized disease that is diagnosed based on symptoms and what can be determined from x-rays. It's easy to miss or to misdiagnose. I am suspicious of anyone claiming to "cure" an incurable disease. Having said that, people should try anything and everything they can to help themselves, and if your symptoms go away, good for you! You should also remember that AS can go into remission for long periods. I've had symptoms for 40 years, beginning in my mid-20s with sacroiliitis, intense pain, difficulty walking, etc.--the typical scenario. When I was younger I had regular remissions that could last up to a year or more. The tendency is to ascribe your recovery to whatever you were doing beforehand, but that doesn't mean it had anything to do with your remission. Sometimes they just happen. Making a causal link is tricky and often wrong. Keep doing whatever is working for you, but be careful telling yourself that your affliction is gone. Maybe you thought you were cured but AS isn't curable no matter what these videos say. You cannot "will yourself" out of an autoimmune disease. It's not your fault you are ill. Positive thinking is powerful; just not that powerful. I wasn't diagnosed until I got my first case of uveitis at 43. During those years I tried every natural remedy and lifestyle change possible, but my condition continued on the typical path of someone with the HLA-B27 gene and a dysregulated immune response. My uncle had it, too. It's genetic (usually). I was lucky to have the resources to pursue every possible modality to try to feel better. What worked was a biologic, and later when that stopped working I found 2 different oral drugs that have kept my symptoms manageable. I haven't had uveitis for 7 years now when I used to get one every 2 years like clockwork. Now, my worst complaint is chronic fatigue, which is extremely debilitating and the result of having a systemic chronic illness for 40 years. In fact, I would trade this fatigue for all the severe pain I used to have in my 20s-40s. Around my late 50s, the fatigue set in and never left. Pain can be managed; CFS cannot. Even the drugs that modify the illness do nothing for that. There is no treatment for CFS. What bothers me about the "cure" word is that it gives people false hope. This is a nasty condition that can return with a vengeance regardless of what you eat, how positive your attitude is, or anything else you do. Making causal links is tricky for a disease that is so variable. There's always hope and you should keep trying different things and get the best treatment you can. What worked for others might not work for you. Remissions are normal and temporary. It's a life-long struggle for most sufferers. Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones, but I wonder how this man is doing today 6 years later--or 5 years from now. And ask yourself this: If a cure was available, why are millions still suffering with the disease? Browse the AS forums and see how many "cures" you will find there. If you found something you feel might help others? Great, let's hear it! Just don't call it a cure because there is no such thing. You also might have been misdiagnosed with AS, or you're trying to sell something. That is just my opinion, of course, but it's based on a lifetime of struggle trying every conceivable method I could find.

You must not hv had it long. There is stages 1* finding out. 2* mild side effects. 3* mild pain, that worsen in other areas. 4* over time u can't turn your neck, your back doesn't straighten, difficultly walking (bc of pain.) I was diag at 42 & now im 59 big change since then. I was told eventually when around 53, I wld be in a W/C now rest of my life. Ha! Ha! Im still on a wlk'g cane😅 but i take my W/C, when i know ill need it for big places.
