It's not that. If you don't have dependents you live in the barracks so you don't have to pay for housing. If you have kids or are married , they can't live in the barracks so you kind of need to find a place to live so they give you BAH. Basic Allowance for Housing, which varies by location to help pay for rent/mortgage.

  • @sechmet987

I'm so very confused here. Like sure, he said that the "fraud" part is essentially a joke, but still feels like he's doing sth that would be considered "illegal" by law. But as he's admitted it himself: • He's bi • He loves his husband very much Just because his husband is most likely straight, and they most likely aren't attracted physically to each other, and thus don't engage in the most basic understanding of "marital duties" doesn't mean they don't have sth genuine, deep, and loving going on. It's time to give up the ghost of the traditional marriage, especially when it comes to queer ppl marrying. I'm glad they're both getting the benefits, and hope that their relationship will continue to the end, with or without the label and officiating papers

It like platonic marriage who want kids to raise but don’t want a partner romantically. They married to each other for a kid. His mom want a kid but don’t want romantically and his dad want a kid where he can treat them with love but he doesn’t feel romantically towards the mom. His parents goal is that raise a kid who have a lot care and love.

I would love to hear his story in 40 years where he became a high ranking and well respected officer in the military and fought through the hardships of war and suffered unimaginable losses just to justify and cling to his desire to stay married. The only thing that kept him alive was the thought of his husband back home. Knowing that one day he would return to his embrace, and they could play Halo 2 and watch their favorite streamers together again. But when he got there he found that shortly after his deployment his husband, whom he trusted with his entire heart and soul, started living with a young woman, and had been keeping her as a secret for nearly 40 years. On the outside he was happy for his friend, but inside, he felt his husband had betrayed their sacred, God-given bond. Polygamy being illegal in most states, they had remained unmarried, and shared their same ideals that marriage as contract approved by the state was idiotic and disgusting. But those ideals weren't his anymore. He was MARRIED. He LOVED his HUSBAND! But his husband didn't seem to feel the same way. Like it was a joke to him. All the times he watched his TikToks over and over again just to make it through the night. Was his husband not watching his? But then he realizes. "Why do I feel this way? He's my friend. Shouldn't I be happy? We only got married in the first place to get an extra paycheck! I mean we're not even gay!" But then he finds out that the government knew that he was straight all along and they were putting gaytonium in all his MREs. And now he has to live the rest of his days alone. Knowing that he can never look at his childhood friend the same way again, and not without it hurting. And if he's honest with his husband, he would be the betrayer. He was the one lying to his friend the whole time.

Not “I hate being in the barracks bro, let’s get married and move out.” Nothing about that is real unless his intentions behind it was love.

Personally I'm against the government sticking its nose into people's bedrooms, the benefits should be available to everyone that serves. In the UK our benefits system has something similar but it works in reverse: married couples get less money to make sure the poor stay poor. My girlfriend and I had to spend over a year proving we weren't de facto married in order to get the money we were entitled to, in the meantime all of our benefits were frozen. We were asked how often we had sex, shared a bed etc. complete government overreach into people's personal lives.

I honestly think I’d marry my brother or sister if I could get away with legally. In the intentional effort to make more money than not being married, so I could better provide for who I’d love in the future. But genuinely if I could help my brother or sister financially get a step in the door towards their own career how is it really bad? I know incest is real but so is money. Sleep in a different houses . Like if we both get more money do we really have to do what people think is proper?
