So... the US military assumes that people who are not married, can't have people they care for and that care for them? Good on him for actually getting what he's supposed to, and even spending it the way it was intended (on his husband or, if they weren't married, someone he clearly cares about)

It's not that. If you don't have dependents you live in the barracks so you don't have to pay for housing. If you have kids or are married , they can't live in the barracks so you kind of need to find a place to live so they give you BAH. Basic Allowance for Housing, which varies by location to help pay for rent/mortgage.
Everyone who was marrying for BAH back in the early 2000s used to joke about how much easier it would be if they could just get same sex married. This was back during don’t ask don’t tell. Sounds like y’all have this all figured out.

Was offered the something similar by my mom. Get married to a woman overseas so she gets a greencard. I'd be way too nervous since I might get investigated for marriage fraud, what would I do? "No, I didn't marry her so she could bypass immigration laws. I married her so I could have sex with her. Yep, it might be terrible, but it's not illegal is it?"
I'm so very confused here. Like sure, he said that the "fraud" part is essentially a joke, but still feels like he's doing sth that would be considered "illegal" by law. But as he's admitted it himself: • He's bi • He loves his husband very much Just because his husband is most likely straight, and they most likely aren't attracted physically to each other, and thus don't engage in the most basic understanding of "marital duties" doesn't mean they don't have sth genuine, deep, and loving going on. It's time to give up the ghost of the traditional marriage, especially when it comes to queer ppl marrying. I'm glad they're both getting the benefits, and hope that their relationship will continue to the end, with or without the label and officiating papers

I have a friend who have parents that don’t love each other, not that way like. His parents who don’t want a partner but at same time want kids to raise. It like platonic marriage who want kids to raise but don’t want a partner romantically. They married to each other for a kid. His mom want a kid but don’t want romantically and his dad want a kid where he can treat them with love but he doesn’t feel romantically towards the mom. His parents goal is that raise a kid who have a lot care and love.
Scottie is so great. I hope he and his husband can get very good life together
Yall think geck laughs uncontrollably off camera sometimes?
Stop telling people you’re bisexual, tell them you’re asexual. A lot of people are so uncomfortable with the thought of someone not being driven by sex that they’ll just piss off.
Some people get married solely for economical reasons. It is pretty common for people to rush into it for health insurance reasons. That’s totally a thing and I don’t see this as fraudulent at all. Unless maybe the guilt factor is there if they’re lying to their families about actually being in love?
I mean, it's not *exactly* what the LGBTQ+ community had in mind when fighting for same-sex marriage rights, but I mean, it's definitely not what we were fighting against, so...

it makes sense though since you don't exactly have marital obligations to your friend as opposed to a woman you may be attracted to or a woman that may want to have a serious relationship, also kids. it's harder for a straight man to marry a straight woman without falling in love eventually or having marital problems even as friends.

@hisnitch

If he's in the military, he would get tried by a military tribunal. It would never reach the supreme court.
I would love to hear his story in 40 years where he became a high ranking and well respected officer in the military and fought through the hardships of war and suffered unimaginable losses just to justify and cling to his desire to stay married. The only thing that kept him alive was the thought of his husband back home. Knowing that one day he would return to his embrace, and they could play Halo 2 and watch their favorite streamers together again. But when he got there he found that shortly after his deployment his husband, whom he trusted with his entire heart and soul, started living with a young woman, and had been keeping her as a secret for nearly 40 years. On the outside he was happy for his friend, but inside, he felt his husband had betrayed their sacred, God-given bond. Polygamy being illegal in most states, they had remained unmarried, and shared their same ideals that marriage as contract approved by the state was idiotic and disgusting. But those ideals weren't his anymore. He was MARRIED. He LOVED his HUSBAND! But his husband didn't seem to feel the same way. Like it was a joke to him. All the times he watched his TikToks over and over again just to make it through the night. Was his husband not watching his? But then he realizes. "Why do I feel this way? He's my friend. Shouldn't I be happy? We only got married in the first place to get an extra paycheck! I mean we're not even gay!" But then he finds out that the government knew that he was straight all along and they were putting gaytonium in all his MREs. And now he has to live the rest of his days alone. Knowing that he can never look at his childhood friend the same way again, and not without it hurting. And if he's honest with his husband, he would be the betrayer. He was the one lying to his friend the whole time.

The only issue this guy could have is if he has another relationship while married. Adultery is against the UCMJ, and could get him in trouble.
We need a follow up checkup on Scottie
I could see it being fraud because they got married to get the extra money. I'm pretty sure there's even people who investigate and loom for this type of stuff. I also look at it like the whole marrying for a green card thing. That's also looked into to see if it's real or not. Idk I could be wrong. Just trying to see this from his perspective.
I knew someone who did this. It's actually pretty genius
I wonder if these two, once Scotty gets out of the military, will say "Hold on a minute...our standard deduction for MFJ on taxes is double filing Single. We don't believe in marriage anyway, and the tax benefits are there..." And then 10 years later they go into business together and realize they have more legal protections staying married than divorcing.... And two straight dudes accidentally end up having a beautiful, fruitful 50 year marriage together lol
I mean you can be in love and in a committed relationship without being married, nor do you have to be religious to be married. So what is the point of marriage if not for the tax and financial benefits.

That was done away with years ago, insane policy
Personally I'm against the government sticking its nose into people's bedrooms, the benefits should be available to everyone that serves. In the UK our benefits system has something similar but it works in reverse: married couples get less money to make sure the poor stay poor. My girlfriend and I had to spend over a year proving we weren't de facto married in order to get the money we were entitled to, in the meantime all of our benefits were frozen. We were asked how often we had sex, shared a bed etc. complete government overreach into people's personal lives.
Did they consumate?
Our tax dollars at work. Clearly these people should be thanked for their "service".

But genuinely if I could help my brother or sister financially get a step in the door towards their own career how is it really bad? I know incest is real but so is money.
