Fun fact: for much of human history, it really wasn't. Granted, it was first deviced (as far as I know) all the way back in Ancient Egypt by 1740 BC, but most places didn't have it for many millenia even after that. It only spread to the West properly at the beginning of the 12th century.

JulianS used "Even" as an adverb for "are," not an adjective for the number, like the "even" in "Maya even said 0 wasn't divisible by 2." Hyrriss's reply was a pun (At least, that's how I interpreted it).
