I Coded a Minecraft Update in 7 Days (Again!)

Ойындар

#Minecraft has an outdated jungle temple that desperately needs an overhaul. So I challenged myself to overhaul the jungle pyramid in only one week. I improved the structure, added new game mechanics, and even coded a custom boss. What Minecraft #datapacks do you want to see next?
Do you guys like the custom boss? Because I enjoyed making it and I'd love to make more custom Minecraft bosses.
This #datapack will release publicly on 1/4/2023. Or you can download it right now by joining my Patreon: / whimzeeyt

Someone pointed out that the voice dialogue doesn't really fit minecraft because no mobs speak english in the game, so it would be cool if you created a language that was like the enchanting table. Maybe the lore surrounding this boss is that his people created the enchanting magic in minecraft, and this pool uses some of that magic, which in turn, feeds the mending enchantment.

I was really shocked whenever he got to the part about him consuming villagers for health. It is a very thoughtful, well executed mechanic that plays really well into Minecraft. While I felt like other, smaller aspects were more shooting at the wall and seeing what sticks, this last one felt powerful and interesting. I would be intrigued to see it be added into the game.

This argument is really stupid and proves a shallow understanding of how each aspect of an update is conceived, conceptualized and created in a controlled and complex environment like a company. Mojang could make 100s of updates every month that completely change the game; add hundreds of new blocks, mobs and items; add new dimensions, and so on. But that's not the point. These updates have to adhere to every type of playstyle, abide by fundamental Minecraft rules set by the developers (like "One block at a time.") and not throw off the balance of the whole entire game. They have to create updates that EVERY player likes, not just a SINGLE GROUP of players. Every single update goes through a long process of iterations, optimizations or the complete removal of certain features. Imagine this in a company with hundreds of employees, where every employee is involved in this process and hundreds if not thousands of ideas are proposed and tested to see if they make sense. Mod creators don't have this dilemma. They can create any mod and the people whose playstyle suits these mods will download them. They don't have to ask "Will this make X obsolete?" or "Will this make Y too overpowered?". They simply don't have to because there is the opt-in & opt-out ability. Please watch Minecraft Ideas Academy's video called "Why Minecraft Updates Take Time" on this matter. This topic is WAY deeper than it seems on the surface.

I really like the design of the temple. Even if mojang doesn't want to add a boss fight, simply updating the old structures to be similar to this style would definitely improve them. This would make players want to explore way more and finding a temple of that size in a jungle would be an amazing adventure experience. Personally I believe Minecraft needs updated structures with better loot and more bosses in the game.

  • @rockl79

IMO it feels like they are focusing a lot on the wrong areas… we don’t need more useless mobs that literally do NOTHING, we should be getting things to add more steps for progression like what was done with netherite. Right now the jungle temple and desert temple are useless, if they used them as an actual form of progression that would really help the gameplay. Both structures haven’t been significantly updated since they were introduced a decade ago

This was really good, but I think the prize is lackluster when you have anvils or the mending enchant, especially since you *have* to use diamonds for the spring to work. I'd probably say the boss' shield should drop and it'd have some unique ability. Nothing OP, maybe something that creates a low-damage blast effect that pushes enemies away from you, since early-mid game you can sometimes get swarmed by mobs

It looks amazing overall, but I have 1 concern The spring at the end heals your gear for a diamond, which is one of the main uses of an anvil. Once you have an anvil, theres not much of a reason to go there other than the thrill & banner (which I think is a lovely touch) This is great, and I would love to see it in minecraft, but I think the spring could be changed. Awesome video though! edit: I also think the phases could go in an order! Sizin can use his heal ability, even when hes at full hp, which doesn't make much sense. Similarly, he can spam attacks over and over again, which can become a bit repetitive. Not trying to hate, just giving some advice.

I love comments like these, I really appreciate when people take the time to give me feedback. I think I could implement a system that prevents attack spam, because I did notice it was a problem at points. I do think the spring is still more powerful than the anvil though, since it doesn't require levels, and a single diamond can heal any item fully. If you use an anvil, it could sometimes take multiple diamonds to achieve full durability. Also good point on Sizin's healing when he's at full health. It just makes him look spiteful and petty killing villagers for no reason lol.

I am really happy that you started coding entities to the game too Tbh i think you if you continue with what you are doing you can get a good big datapack with All your datapacks in it that adds variety of content and fun And even you can start like your own server with those datapacks

The learning curve for entities wasn't as bad as I thought tbh. Still probably the most difficult thing to code for, but also really fun and rewarding. Having a server with all these datapacks is actually the goal! I'm going to start thinking about how they all work together.

Not to be that guy, but the Tiki mask and obsidian club are from two totally distinct cultures (Polynesian and Aztec). It would have been a little better if you'd stuck with one jungle society theme that wasn't just a mish mash of typical images of a "jungle society." Maybe you can revise this idea with more creative flair. For example, a non-distinct grassy monster or a god of some sort. idk just a thought.

  • @Whimzee

    @Whimzee

    Жыл бұрын

I started with datapacks since I figured they'd be easier, and they are for most things. But I'm starting to feel limited by it. I mainly do Java development at work, so the switch wouldn't be too bad. For some reason, I get the impression that people are more impressed by datapacks than mods, but maybe I'm wrong about that. I'm on the fence, honestly.

I think the better option for taking over the voicelines would be battle music which we haven’t heard almost ever in Minecraft, it would be cool to even have the boss be a statue that is fixed in place but follows the player through its head only. Also I could see things like a Mayan death whistle being an item that could summon a skeleton horse with exclusive armor which would cost 1-2 xp levels to summon but it would last 2 Minecraft days.
