17yrs ago we lost a child at one week of age. No stranger to death I have had more than 50 friends and family die. But this rocked me and I never recovered. Soon after a divorce and she moved away with the children. I lost my siblings and in laws as well as friends because they did not know what to say or do. Simply put I am lost and alone though I have a good relationship with my children and desperately want out but I can not do that. I have a lot of years left and I do not look forward to them

I sobbed the first time I watched this music video. I've been through this type of loss four times and even got to the point of being totally hopeless and not wanting to be alive anymore a few times, but I'm still here. It's been 9 years since the last loss, which was also the farthest along (about 4 months) and most traumatizing for a lot of reasons. There will always be sad moments, grief around the anniversary of my son's birth/death (four days ago), and times when I go down the "what if" rabbit hole, but they don't consume my life anymore. If you're going through the same thing, keep hanging on. It will get better.

In back to back years, I lost my two daughters. One stillborn at 28 weeks, and one lived for 12 days. That feeling of devastation never goes away, it just hides once in a while. My ex husband never healed from the losses, and ten years after my Avery passed in ‘09, he died from an overdose. He self medicated and despite having two beautiful sons after the losses, he was never able to move on. This song was beautiful and crushing at the same time.

My sister died in womb 3 weeks before she was supposed to born (strangled to umbilical cord). My parents couldn't go to cemetery when they buried her. My grandparents were holding small casket where she laid. I was 6 years old still get quite emotional after 33 years, can't imagine how my parents felt. luckily i still got 3 younger brothers after her passing. When my wife was pregnant, all the flashbacks came back and i told her and the doctors that im quite afraid something will happen. We got healthy little baby girl and she turns 8 this year. If i would lose her, dont think there is a single thing that could save me.

Hey Elizabeth! I’m a long time fan, but this is my first time commenting on one of your videos. Usually I observe quietly, but this song and video struck a serious chord with me when I first heard it and it keeps getting better and better to me. This was a brilliant reaction to a heartbreakingly magnificent song. Your level of emotion, empathy and care really shone through in this reaction. I think this might be your best reaction yet, not necessarily on the technical aspects, but on the sheer way it made you FEEL and us along with you. I left a comment a while back on another reaction to this video on another channel (Play It Again with Mike and Ginger) and Aaran Mackenzie (the bassist of the band and director of this video) responded to it, stating that he hadn’t seen anybody else “get it” as well as I had. I spoke about some background on the music video, the symbolism I picked up and my interpretation of the story it told. I took the liberty of retrieving that comment to repost here. Consider having a read through it! The comment follows below: “Great reaction guys! This was the first reaction I've seen from you and I was very impressed with how fast you guys caught on to the story of the video. While She Sleeps is some of the best modern metal out there in my opinion. Fun fact about the video: It was fully written, produced, directed, filmed and edited by the band themselves. No big fancy production crew or anything, just the band plus a few actors. This is especially impressive to me because they did so magnificently. The constant jump back and forth in time between his memories and how he's feeling is so well done. It serves to disorient the viewer, much the same as the man is feeling. Then during the more angry part where he decides to take his life and is screaming in the car, the cuts speed up drastically to indicate the state of mind he's in. His mind is running a mile a minute and he's acting without fully thinking it through. You two described it as the whirlwind of emotions, which is a very apt description in my opinion. The whole drugs motif works so well. They were both using beforehand, but when they find out she's pregnant, both stop, but she unfortunately STILL loses the baby. Whether it was due to the past drug use or other causes, we don't know, but losing a child, even an unborn one, can be absolutely heartbreaking. As so often happens, this tragedy creates a bit of a rift between them and she starts using again, overdosing in the process. I don't think she chose to take her life, but that it was rather an accident.. It emphasises the importance that baby had and how much they both already loved the baby, despite them not being born yet. They were enough to motivate the woman to quit, but losing the baby led her right back to the drugs to numb her grief and eventually led to her death. And although there was a rift between them, I genuinely believe that with enough time to grieve properly, they would've made their way back to each other, albeit with scarred hearts. All the imagery of the man sinking as he is dying, and then swimming up to the surface as he realises he doesn't want to die yet, is some of my favourite cinematography of the year. It looks much more epic than it would in reality (seen by the shot directly afterwards of him falling out of the car). It is a mental struggle he has to overcome, not a physical one, and that often times is much harder than a physical struggle, so it IS a great, epic moment when he can make that decision to not do it. The drive-in theatre is a metaphor for him looking back on all his memories. I think this is a great choice. Initially we think that is a real event he is experiencing that we are witnessing. Meanwhile, this is actually the moment his life literally flashes in front of his eyes as the car is flooding and he remembers all the happiness he had with Jenny. He realises that he doesn't want to die yet and that she wouldn't want him to either. The tragic thing about that to me was that not everyone gets that moment of realisation, or they get it too late. Him going to his (I assume) mother after the attempt is also beautiful, but unfortunately not everyone still has family/friends they can depend on for that support. Often times, they are grieving as well! A good support system is critical and I wish everybody could be guaranteed one. The emotional acting of both of the main characters without ever having to say a word is amazing. Conveying all that grief and anger, as well as happiness, euphoric joy and love for each other, all through only facial expressions and physical acting is incredibly impressive. That opening/main riff is sooooo good, it's been stuck in my head for weeks now. The switch up in vocals near the halfway point of the song is also so beautiful. Going from the clean, melodic singing into the rage-filled screams and growls as he moves on in his stages of grief is heartbreaking. This song is a bit more mellow/slower than their usual music, and because of its subject matter, I believe it was totally warranted, necessary and the right choice. I like that they made the song approachable to non-metalheads, because this is a very important topic and an absolutely beautiful song, video, and message. I view it as more of a short film than a music video. It still remains metal enough, especially with the guitar and vocals, to please those who like their metal sound.”

I found While She Sleeps' original video 3 months ago while clicking through recommended videos off to the right, not knowing the band, but being interested based on the name and video thumbnail, they resonated with me, being into posthardcore music for a good two decades. I thought I might be in for a good groove, the video however immediately gripped me by the back of the neck and took me down an emotional rollercoaster I wasn't expecting, just like when I was 6 years old flipping through cable channels late at night and happened across the original IT, at just the part where the clown persuades the kid to hop into the sewer for the paper boat. Just like that moment, this video is now imprinted in my memory. Great Musicality but also What. A. Video.

Year back they had a show at a music festival and I happened to just go past their stage, but their performance kept me there like I was getting pulled towards them. The energy, the overall performance by the whole band and the lead singer straight out just jumped into the crowd, joined the pit and later on climbed the pole in the middle of the crowd, jumped into the crowd while still singing ALL the time. Lost my brother to an overdose in December. 36 years old. Between caring for my 2 very young babies and being in medical school, I feel like I didn't really get to grieve until the semester ended (last week). Great reaction, hard to watch with the imagery myself.

Pain and loss are parts of life, even though they're not desired they do make us appreciate the good things more. Sadly, the burden can be great at times, that's why we need to listen, not just hear, we need to try to keep others in our thoughts, and most importantly reach out when we think that something might be wrong with someone. Take care and much love to everyone out there.

I just saw While She Sleeps live last week, funny coincidence on the timing of this video. Really solid performers and when they played this song it felt just as heartfelt live. Something I love about metal and adjacent genres is how the intensity of the music backs up the intensity of the emotions the song intends to invoke and this song is a prime example. Another great example in the genre that I think would be cool to watch you analyze is "Doomsday" by Architects.

Their first album really impressed me, I'm sure you would appreciate it. They had a few albums that haven't lived up to that, but the tracks for the new album have been very cool! What this band does vocally does make them unique, the fact that so many bands members sing as well as play and they've used a choir in the past too which sets them apart.

Seen these guys live loads since 2009. Go back to some of their early stuff, Our Courage, Our Cancer, it’s written by Loz about his mum. Loz suffered with his voice around the Brainwashed album and had throat surgery. I prefer the earlier more shouty albums but also appreciate this new direction they’re taking, This is The Six 🤘🏼nothing but total respect to these guys and what they have achieved and in their own 💪🏻

A powerful song from a band I've not heard from before, thank you. I have to be honest though, I normally go to James Blunt for my dose of misery. So many of his songs are written from his own experiences, which makes them even more heartbreaking. I would recommend The girl that never was, Monsters and Carry you home. All three have brought a tear to my eye at various times and I'm not the only one, I've seen reactors who have been in tears or have had to pause recording so they can pull themselves together with all three. But they are such good songs and he sings them so well. If you do listen to some of his songs, freat yourself to Paolo Nutini Iron Sky (Abbey Road live session.) Considered by some to be a masterpiece, hopefully it will cheer you up again.

As someone that lost all of their support network to covid/cancer friends drifting apart right at my worst, be there for those you know are struggling. If two actors hugging can completely break me imagine what one hug from you to a family or friend can do.

the beauty of while she sleeps is the versatility. you wont find a song in their discography that is quite like this one. the best way to approach the music is to go in without expectations, because you might be disappointed by the song not being what you expected it to be, eventhough its still a great song. and no matter what, it's going to be a great song. they don't have any bad ones. four walls is widely regarded as one of, if not their best song. silence speaks might be a good one to do because it does a great job showcasing their multi vocalist arrangement. enlightenment(?) is another personal favorite of mine.
