My stepdad married my mom when I was 11 and had a baby with my mom when I was 14. When my wife got pregnant with our son, people kept asking if I wanted a boy or a girl, and I said I wanted a boy because, you know, wanting to have a legacy and the big brother to look after and protect younger siblings and stuff. I remembered at that time that when people would ask my stepdad the question when my mom was pregnant with my sister, he would always say he wanted a girl. I thought it was strange at the time because what man doesn't want his first child to be a boy? Maybe it's a little politically incorrect of a thought to have, but I think dudes will understand. When my wife and I broke the news of her pregnancy to my parents, I asked my stepdad why he wanted a girl when my mom was pregnant, and he told me that he already had me as a son. It never even occurred to me all that time that that was why, and it is the most loving thing anyone has ever said to me.

This is a beautiful song, praising the men who stepped up for children not their own. I am married to such a man & I am so glad you also were given this gift. ~ And Brad can make you cry or make you laugh. He has beautiful love songs like 'She's everything' or he can make you laugh in songs like 'I'm still a guy', 'I'm gonna miss her' & 'Tick' for example. He is an exceptional guitar player too, so a good example of that is in his duet with Keith Urban, with the fun song 'Start a band'. Highly recommend. Brad doesn't have a bad song. 'When I get where I'm going' with Dolly Parton will definitely make you cry. LOL
