I think Akitas are very owner attached. It is built in that they are not friendly with strangers. They have both a strong prey drive and are exceptionally protective of their families. Not good with kids. No surprise that this dog was not happy about grooming. Not good with dog parks.
@1faithchick7

@user-ii9ej2iq1s To be fair, strong prey drive doesn't have anything to do with whether they are good with people. Huskies are off the charts friendly with all humans, children, strangers, etc. But they also have a very high prey drive. If a squirrel gets in your yard it is probably a dead squirrel. If a kid gets in your yard they get kisses. There is a reason she doesn't have problems with huskies biting. That said, Akita are one of those breeds I would never own. They do bite. They were breed not to like strangers. I don't want to deal with that safety issue.

i feel like this would be a good video to talk about boundaries with strangers and dogs, not all dogs are meant to be approached with the intent to be touched (especially service dogs), or approached at all, but all dogs are meant to be walked and taken outside to get exercise when applicable, and many people may not understand that, and end up allowing children and themselves to be at risk of being snapped at or bit because 'oh big soft fluffy doggy do no harm to their owner so im safe too'. i hope one day in the future you approach this subject, seeing that you have such a reach to the community. :)
@Alberich_Prince_of_Dwarves

I think it's very important that parents teach their children how to approach a dog and it's a change I'm seeing happening in real time in my area. My dog is kind of fearful but not aggressive and she's not used to kids, but I can read her bodylanguage pretty well, so if a child asks if they can pet her and Coco doesn't actively shy away from them, I say "of course you can and I'll show you how best to pet her". Most dogs don't enjoy being petted directly on their head or a hand coming down from above, so I do my best to teach any kid who wants to talk to my dogs on how best to approach a strange dog. And I think the key part is to ALWAYS ASK before you attempt to pet a dog, in general. Not all dogs are friendly, some dogs are reactive and some dogs are working dogs. So, unless a dog is visibly wearing a work harness and you obviously shouldn't approach a working dog, ask if you can pet them.

I was just looking for a comment about this. Obvs she didn’t give this collar to the dog and sometimes people are told by professionals that they are perfectly safe and think they are doing what’s best- but they are horrible and break my heart every time. A trainer told my family to use a prong collar on my dog growing up to stop her from pulling on her leash and stressed that it was perfectly fine but she would always choke herself so horribly and would bruise herself and the vet told us the truth. We felt so terrible for putting her through that even though she only had it for a bit and would only wear it on walks.
That’s one beautiful but imposing dog, good thing he shows his grievances without aggressiveness.

It took him two weeks to realise strangers weren't the enemy but eight months to be off lead with other dogs. You never know what has happened to them. Bless you for taking chances on rescues. It's so rewarding when they're 'fixed'.❤
The dog thoughts get me so tickled 😂
You did such a good job reading his temperament and kept from making him uncomfortable enough to snip at you. I love the fact that you weren’t allowed to touch him but giving a treat was fine with him ❤ you’re the best, if I had a dog you’d be the kind of groomer I’d look for 😊
What a talker and such a great face! I wonder about the hat/netting. Dogs can be reactive at hats. When we were doing some training with our dogs in an advanced obedience session, the instructor put on a hat and that changed everything for some of the dogs.
He's a tough one to work with, but you got him through at least a bath and blow dry. That's an achievement with this one.
You are so patient! He’s so beautiful…I mean handsome!
“No touchies, NO TOUCHIES!!” 😂
lovely dog
Kinda surprised to see a prong collar on this channel.

He was brought with the prong collar and Vanessa for sure couldn't remove it. ☹️

She didn't put it on him, it's the dog's own collar that he came in with. She says in the video that he wouldn't allow her to take it off

I hope Vanessa educated the owner...the poor dog is set up to be reactive.
He looks just like my Akita we had growing up in Japan. She was very standoffish and aggressive with strangers, but so loving with the family. We called her Lady, she lived to almost 15yo.
I'm glad you didn't get hurt!
Such a cute but challenging customer~😅 Thank you for sharing this video~🤗
Vanessa is very, VERY brave. God bless her and keep her and her wonderful family.. ❤️
Gotta love the Inu/Spitz breeds 😂😍♥️ so incredibly sassy but I feel them
Such a pretty dog - but such an attitude!
Lol that dog is so cute and such a drama queen sass master
Love the captioning. It's spot on.
You have the patience of a saint!
I was walking down the street one day, and could definitely visibly see the angry expression on a similar dogs face. Someone was trying to get close to him moments later, and the dog was not feeling it. So expressive !
