I CAN'T BELIEVE We Drove This PRICELESS Car!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
I wasn't expecting to live the ultimate experience for any petrolhead during my visit to the Simeone Museum! After exploring the most special collection I've ever visited, bringing together 'The Spirit of Competition', we're taking out the Ford GT40 that raced at Le Mans in '66!
I've never seen a display like it, welcome to the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia, USA. It's hard to know where to begin, Fred Simeone created the Foundation and Museum that's home to some of the most special and successful race cars of all time. Featuring winners from the Mille Miglia, Le Mans, Nurburgring, and many more famous racing events; it's a jaw dropping place to explore, found in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
There are so many cars with stories to talk about; the unique Bugatti 57G 'Tank', a Ferrari 250 P, Aston Martin DBR1, the Ford GT40s that ran at Le Mans, the original prototype Shelby Daytona Coupe, the world's best collection of Alfa Romeo 8Cs, it's an almost endless run of phenomenal history.
I'm joined by Kevin Kelly from the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum to find out more about the specific GT40 that raced in the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours, and to take it out for a little drive. The rawness of the sound and feeling are unlike any other, this is an ultimate dream for me, having been experiencing the Ford GT storyline of the latest generation myself, and now discovering even more of the history behind it.
The Simeone is available to visit, as well as hosting regular demo days, be sure to do so if you are ever in the area:

@@Shmee150 I live near Philadelphia and I visited the Simeone Museum several years back… amazing place to go, for sure. But, I have to ask… did.. did they sell the 1966 Ferrari 365 P Berlinetta “Tre-posti” Speciale!?! 😬 That car was sooo cool. I had hoped to see it again… 😕

@@theranter, the Tre-Posti was on loan. and yes the owner did sell it.
I guess it was about 15 years ago, I scheduled a tour of the Simione for a group of Miata owners. Dr. Simione was there and personally gave us a tour, just taking his time and giving us his personal history with each car, his overall history as an enthusiast, etc. We were all just completely mesmerized, it was like we stepped into car-guy heaven. He was so down to earth and generous with his time, and was just shooting the breeze with a bunch of car guys. What a day. He even mentioned how at the time more Miatas were roadraced than any other model. He leaves quite a legacy.
Knowone else gets theses experiences, just goes to show how well respected Tim is in the car world, nice work

Actually, you’re kinda wrong. The Simeone Museum is very public friendly, with bi-weekly demo days that allows spectators to get as close as he’s getting to a rotating selection of cars, before and after said cars do a handful of laps in the backlot. It’s a truly unique and remarkable experience.

They don't call him the "Mister Rogers of cars" for no reason!
I recently moved to Philadelphia and went to the museum last year. It was incredible and yes, they do demo days throughout the year and give people rides in each one. I attended the "Ford vs. Ferrari" day where they drove the GT40, the Shelby Daytona, and the Ferrari 250. Special stuff. Sadly, Dr. Simeone passed away last year, but the Spirit of Competition lives on!!
Welcome to Philadelphia Tim home of the greatest historical automobile museum in the world. That is a title that is almost impossible to live up to but as you now see is truly deserved. You have reached the top now so from here on out you will be comparing everything else to this museum. I've visited many times and learn new things with each visit. So glad you were able to bring these cars and their history to your viewers. Each car deserves its own video so I hope you stop back again to highlight a different car. The demo days are a must!
The GT40 looks as good today as it did in 1966, timeless ❤
Yes this is one of my favorite car museums ever! I'm from Philadelphia so I am certainly biased, but Fred curated such a special collection. I'm so glad you finally visited to give it the coverage it deserves!
Goosebumps when that GT40 started up. Absolutely unbelievable! Greatest car collection on the planet and there is no discussion.

Wow what a car... essentially priceless! But so is the whole collection, what an incredible museum and experience.
This has been one of my all time favorite shmee videos. Beautiful place, I had no idea this place even existed.
I really hope Jay Leno's garage becomes something like this one day. I would much rather have his collection become a museum open to the public than be auctioned off and separated.
This museum is like heaven for people who like beautiful historical cars with lots of history behind each one of them. Thank you for sharing that magical place with all of us!
It's an awesome museum! I met Dr. Simeone when I visited ten years ago. He told us how he started buying these historic cars back when they were considered junk by most people.
That 427 sound will never get old. The gt40 is probably my favorite race car of all time, big and aggressive, but still sleek. Carrol shelby made some true masterpieces with it and the cobra.
I’ve been there before i live in Philadelphia mr simeone was a great guy
There really is no other automotive KZreadr that could bring us this sort of content. This is why Shmee is the best. In and amongst all the super cars and hypers cars it’s brilliant to see and hear a real piece of history!
Every time I watch one of his videos, I'm absolutely amazed how professionally well spoken he is. To be able to rattle off all this information is astonishing. I don't care if he practices for months because the outcome is purely entertaining. I thank you Mr Tim
So much significant history to each of these cars. Simply amazing!
Wow! That car collection is truly historic, insane, and priceless. That GT40 is probably worth about $20 Million today.

I am a volunteer at the Simeone Museum. Tim you did an awesome job representing the collection in such a short amount of time. It's a shame you didn't get to check out the original '63 Corvette Grand Sport, 1 of 5 built. That car is a beast! Dr. Simeone was an amazing man and his legend lives on through his collection of cars.

What a sensational racing car collection - many thanks to show us these historical icons! You make me happy with your video! Greetings from Germany!!
Ford gt40 is the car that started my car loving journey. It amazed me how cars could be so beautiful and later to discover its amazing history and now I’m an expert on the gt40
Great video, what a collection of cars and their history. Well done Tim.
the irony of the timing of this video been released only 48hrs after I've spent the weekend watching & listening too cars just like these racing at the Members Meeting at Goodwood is not lost on me. Nothing nowadays comes close to the immense sound of old classics at full chat if you want your smile generated by the sheer joy of having your insides completely rattled from their insane engine tones. All things of beauty in their own way

I am born and raised in Philadelphia and have visited the Simeone museum many times to look through and see the demos. What an amazing collection Frank Simeone created and shared with the public to see and experience. Glad you were able to finally visit Shmee!
Haven’t watched for a while - this was a great video - amazing to watch to progression, not only of engineering, of style, of manufacture but also of the human spirit of endeavour. I can’t help but wonder what the videos in 50-100 years will look like and what will power the cars, what they will look like etc. Well done Tim, amazing experience and thank you for taking us along.

Finally. I’ve watched you for 10 years and you never mention Austin Healeys and almost purposefully pass over them when they are in garages. My dad collects healeys and sprites. Its nostalgia for me.
I saw that Aston Martin DBR1 having some work done when I brought my Vantage to Steel Wings, an Aston specialty shop outside Philly. They had some fantastic DB4s and DB5s, too.
Tim I love the fact that you like Fords more than anything, great video brother…….keep up the good work

The GT40 is unbelievable. There’s an original GT40 owned in the area near me and you can hear the thing from miles away. Love the content variety Tim
That GT40 is thunder! Great share thanks Tim.
The sheer amount of value & rarity in that room is mind boggling, so many extremely iconic cars all together in one place. Cheers Shmee 🤙
Love the Simeone Museum. Their Demo Days are amazing. There is nothing better than seeing these machines run outside. I live quite close by and try to get there at least once every summer. The only other museum I've seen that rivals it is the REVS Institute in Naples, Florida.
I know a real GT40 is out of reach but a Superformance GT40 fully kitted out in Alan Mann Racing colours would be an exquisite addition to the shmuseum!
I saw this collection last year in person…absolutely stunning!! One of the best private collections in the world.
That is an ultimate dream ride of mine. DEFINITELY a bucket list item for sure!
I can still remember the first time I saw a Ford GT poster (2006 at a Go-Kart track) I've loved them ever since. What a incredibly special experience to take out one of the cars that started it all.

How amazing. A candy shop where it would be next to impossible for me to pick a favorite. That '37 Bugatti was amazing...Thanks for sharing.
That was a very special drive 👍👏 really cool!
Id love to see more of the classic road and race cars on the channel. Modern cars are impressive but leave me feeling a bit cold.
Pls make more of this collection walk through, Im addicted to them :D
The only way your going to top that visit is more future return visits during demo days when they take the next priceless classic out for a spin. I'm guessing the museum has its own channel on you tube showing videos of these demo days? It's super rare just to see them and even more to see them running! You can buy a original ford gt40 replica to your spec here in the USA. That would look right at home next to the ford gt in the schmuseum along with the future 05 or 06 ford gt.
