I am surprised entirely by this vid and its reaction. I never talked about Chalk Zone with anybody, but man, did I _hate_ it as a kid. Rudy "Tibooti" or whatever his name was and all the other characters were _so_ annoying. That supposedly "cool" hero he made that actually was the opposite of cool... but the worst were the voices. I couldn't watch the show because the voices (and the terrible theme song) completely repulsed me when I was younger. I just hated the characters, mostly. It felt like an inferior Fairly Odd Parents, both of which emerged from an Oh Yeah! Cartoons short

One problem was probably that Chalkzone encouraged drawing and creativity, not buying SpongeBob and Nickelodeon merchandise.

@@inkshermit9055 Hey, Jimmy Neutron was an honestly good show! If you mind the graphics. It had quality writing, interesting characters, and interesting stories. Both cartoons were obviously good. At least, they are, if you ask me. I enjoyed both of them as a kid, and I enjoyed Jimmy Neutron last time I binge watched it when I was 16

The show is a gray area of my memory. I grew up with the show, saw it all the time. I just cant recall anything other than snaps voice.

Bio Booster Armor Guyver. Akira. Invader Zim. Ed Edd & Eddy, Chalkzone, Courage the Cowardly Dog, DBZ, Samurai Jack, K.N.D, Avatar:TLA. & Then cartoons died until Adventure Time & Gravity Falls happened & Samurai Jack got rebooted. Now they're back to being dead, but at least Anime is still pretty good. Even if we will never get another Black Lagoon Season & Berserk is never going to get better until they make a Movie again. Devilman Crybaby & Mob Psycho 100 was great!

Thanks man. As co-Creator of ChalkZone I feel you've gotten the essence of Nick's strange Dislike/Hate relationship with ChalkZone essentially correct, although I would quibble with a couple of specifics. We were canceled at 40 epps while Fairly Oddparents went on to 120. (For example.) ChalkZone was far and away the most conceptually adventurous and fully realized series in Nick's stable at the time, even including the juggernaut SpongeBob. Why we are persona non grata at Nick can possibly be explained by why Nick itself is networka non grata to the entire planet now. Who drops a ball as big as Nickelodeon? Only Nickelodeon itself.

@@Fleurlean4 Yes. The company where I was Creative Director (Fred/Alan Inc.) had the HA! account, one of the two rival comedy networks. (The other was Comedy Channel.) When they merged it fell to us to Position (an older term for Brand) the new resulting comedy network. I worked with Fred Seibert and Alan Goodman to create the concept of THE place on TV where hot new comedy talent would want to bring their best stuff. I dubbed it Comedy Central, and wrote the original branding document.

It’s incredible how memorable these scenes are. I haven’t watched this show in probably 15 years but I remember almost every scene you showed so well.

Okay, but a finally young Rudy episode where he says bye to snap and the chalk zone to “grow up” flash into him in college (where most of the viewers are in or around that point in their lives currently) and in college Rudy finds snap again and snap helps him navigate adulthood rather than childhood. Is something I can very much get behind.

Fun fact about Chalk Zone: it seems to be a spiritual successor to the 1970s British children's show "Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings". The basic premise of the show is virtually the same. Check it out!

I LOVED this show as a kid, but never understood until now why I barely ever got to see it on TV. Even in the limited times I managed to get to watch this I still have such fond memories and feelings towards it

The best episode when Rudy "fixed" a bunch of chalk drawings and it blew up in his face. Dont fix other people's art. Great lesson.

Yeah, no. Almost all educators use whiteboards and markers instead of chalk these days, and that's assuming their school doesn't have the budget for display screens. Where chalk does get used heavily is sidewalk drawings. They are all over the place in any urban neighborhood with kids, and a fair number of suburban ones.

Same here. I used to draw on clipboards sitting around my house and draw portals and tried sticking my head into them in hopes of opening portals to ChalkZone. ...Too bad I did it with marker since we didn’t have chalk around the house. But hey, I could’ve opened a portal to a dry erase world. : P

I remember "Chalkzone" was aired in a certain local TV channel in the Philippines back in 2000s. It was originally aired in English but later dubbed in Tagalog. It was such a good show and I found out that one of its special episodes "The Big Blow Up" was aired there earlier before the US.

i used to watch this show with my sister before she passed away when we were kids. strange yet nice feeling to remember it today. definitely one of our favorite cartoons then :)

This was the show that made me love chalk. My favorite character from this show was, and still is, Snap. I wished we could have seen that character arc for Snap. It would be so heartbreaking. It would have been a good lesson for kids though; its okay to outgrow your old friends and make new ones. Or like, it would have been even more heart breaking if Rudy had drawn a chalk version of himself to stay with Snap.

That definitely would have been interesting to see in the show. It’s heartbreaking, but it fits. Your second idea of having Rudy draw a version of himself to stay with Snap is definitely heartbreaking and interesting, and I like it. It’s a good arc to have and explore

i literally LOVED ChalkZone growing up and whenever i mention it to anyone, they're always like "?? what's that?" ..makes me a little sad that a gem like this one didn't last long.

This show reminded me to enjoy art. I was bullied a lot as a kid and this show encouraged me to keep doing art in the childish hope that my world would come alive one day.

I remember watching Chalk Zone all the time when I was little. We have this glass wall in our shower, and I always drew things on it whenever I was taking a shower or bath in hopes of it coming to life like in the show. I remember drawing little people and making them houses and stuff and tried giving them things to make them happy so that once the picture faded, they would still have a good life. It really gave me a huge creativity boost.

I didnt even know there was a 3rd or 4th season, though I prob caught some season 3 without knowing. Besides Avatar, I havent really watched many new nick cartoons since like 2007... I feel old now.

This is literally nostalgic. When you pointed out how late Chalkzone used to come on, it brought me back. I used to remember staying up watching through those nick sitcoms just to watch Chalkzone then go right to sleep as that would be my last toon for the day.

I remember having to wait around 1-2 pm to watch avatar the last Airbender live. It sucks it was on late but it makes sense now nobody will be up so early

I remember this show, I thought it was so awesome. No wonder I always felt like I only saw like 10 episodes of it

Thank you for this, reminiscing has been a part of my quarantine self-care. And this was one of my favorite shows as a kid!

Hey, i want to honestly thank you for making this video. This show, like many of the cartoons from the 90's and early 2000's was a fabric of my life growing up and to see it again, after ALL these years is amazing. I probably only saw the first season, and maybe some of the second, but i never knew it ran 4 seasons and that the writers had a finished arch in their back pocket. It's all quite fascinating, so thank you again!

Chalk zone was the SHIT MAN. I LOVED IT.

I remember getting up at 6 in the morning to watch Chalkzone. I appreciated the greatness even at 7 years old!

I loved Chalkzone soooooo much, I just rewatched a VHS we had recorded of the double-length special The Big Blow Up (which had yet another catchy musical sequence) and it reminded me how desperately I wanted to have my own imaginary world to escape to as a kid. Hearing about how much this show got shafted, it’s very likely that I never saw every episode.

I forgot about this instant classic! Rudy's got the Chalk! Chalk zone!!

Oh Yeah! Cartoons is one of the most underrated programs ever made for kids. To this day, there is a sincere affection I have for it. I never knew Chalk Zone lasted 4 seasons, I never saw it on the schedule. It was one of those shows I wanted to be good because of the premise, but I've might have been a bit too old for it when it was airing its 2nd season. I'm really hoping Oh Yeah! and other pilot-like compilation shows return for the viewing public in decent quality.

I remember watching this as a kid!!!! I was always like “Why don’t I watch it enough?” But nickelodeon ALWAYS put it in ungodly hours when us kids are asleep, ughhhh glad you made this video Chalk Zone needs to come back!

I loved Chalkzone as a kid, but only the first two seasons. I didn't know it had two more seasons before its cancellation.

I watched season 3 and 4..but 4 was weird

I love how Rudy would use Chalkzone to travel like the Nether.

this show is one of my childhood. elementary days, watching this at 4 or 5 ij the morning. not really sure. but im in philippines. where school starts at 7am. so i gotta wake up early. lol. me and my mom would argue because she wanted to watch morning news and we siblings want to watch cartoons. oh life was simple back then.

I use to think drawing a circle on a board would let me into the chalk world . Let’s just say I was disappointed as a young impressionable five year old

The originality & variety of the new songs at the end every week was what did it for me!

IMO, the original ending sounded more bittersweet than the ending to Toy Story 3.

50 yrs before this ,there was" Simon in the land of Chalkdrawings" ....miss that one

When I heard that Nick was bringing back a lot of their older shows like Invader Zim, Rocko's Modern Life and Hey Arnold, it gave me slight hope they would at least revive ChalkZone, which has always been my absolute favorite NickToon. Then again if they DID revive the show who's to say they're gonna forget it like they did the show all those years ago

@@tedmonson the show's mentioned above. Although, it's worth noting that they're not getting "rebooted" per say, but getting a made for television movie. I silently hope that if they get popular enough they'll get actual reboots

This show was pretty big dubbed in Indonesia, and was one of the Nickelodeon cartoon favorites in here.... I remember during my days in a public elementary school everyone would attempt to draw a circle and try to go to the Chalkzone. Man, I missed this show...

I remember when this show aired me and my classmates would draw on the chalkboard and erase our drawings so they could be free and happy in chalkzone, what a great show

For me i started writing little comics and stuff omg I loved it 😭

I *loved* chalkzone. It was such an inspiration, and made me want to get into drawing and animation. That perfect circle, that's what I tried to achieve to enter a _"chalkzone"_ of my own.

My memory of this show JUST got unlocked lol. It was sooo good. It’s crazy seeing all this characters and I instantly recognize them again. Weird how we can just forget something we liked so much

Exactly what I was feeling

I have a limited memory of this particular toon and hearing that they held this particular show hostage for years before the first season even released might explain why I can only remember the theme song instantly but nothing else.

“Nickelodeon treated it like their high school girlfriend right as they’re about to leave for college” OOF that hit a little too close to home but made me realize that I love and appreciate this show even more

Honestly, for the dud of a show it was, "Wayside" had one of the best theme songs ever. Too bad the show sucked (I really wanted it to be great too as I loved the books). Also, "My Life As A Teenage Robot" and "Danny Phantom" had great theme songs.

They, along with another show about the same general premise (kid draws world, has friends he created there) which I can't even remember the name of all aired around the same time period (if not the same slot) on YTV here in Canada, and as a kid I assumed they were related, or at least had a lot of difficulty distinguishing between them.

Completely forgot about this show. Thank you for this trip down nostalgia lane. It was a great show 👌🏼

This channel reintroduced me to the part of my childhood that was completely lost. I love it.

Man, the nostalgia is real.

I absolutely adored this show. It was so creative, and really encouraged applying out of the box thinking for me.

Nickelodeon just seems to be one giant case of mishandling creative property. The only place I’ve ever really seen benefit from being under Nick/Viacom was like... Neopets. And that petered out already. Though in fairness they made Neopets pretty great for a little.

I vividly remember sneaking into my primary classrooms at lunchtime and stealing full, unbroken chalk from boxes to play with in the schoolyard

This video made me so happy! I used to love Chalk Zone, but I felt like none of the other kids I knew ever watched it because it was on so rarely, but I always was so happy when I caught an episode.
