I Broke the Tuono! So now I can fix it and Upgrade it. Suspension and alternator on the Aprilia

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Dave's had the Tuono a year and a half now, and has finally managed to break it. So it's a golden opportunity to fix it and upgrade it.
The forks are getting treated to some better pistons and the known issue with the electrical generator is getting sorted.

    I remember pulling the flywheel to replace the sprag clutch. I actually relived that same joy when you eventually took it off. 😁 Maybe replace the sprag clutch as well (with a KTM one, not the bloody expensive original one) now you're at it. Oh... man .... do I miss my V2 Tuono... 😖

    Really like your videos Dave! For that gentleman down below ,who states that you will demagnetize flywheel by heating it, I don't see otherwise how you can pull it of , without damaging it.While engine operating flywheel anyway choking easily up to 80- 100C° I assume.

    Always a fantastic explanation Dave! Will you experiment with 10w oil on these forks at a later stage? What would be the effect? I can’t remember if you used 5w last rebuild?

  • @obsession_engineering

    @obsession_engineering

    2 жыл бұрын

    I always use 5w (unless the oem spec is heavier). Thicker oils tend to be less consistent over temperature changes and cavitate easier. 5w is pretty much the standard for race stuff for that very reason

    Nice video. Would it have cost Aprilla that much to have the original suspension made to the K Tech spec? Surely even if they added £100 to each bike it would pay them in the long run to have a brand which had great suspension right out the box?

  • @obsession_engineering

    Cracking bikes! The engines are strong. The charging system is the weak link. The later bikes had most of the niggles fixed and a lot of the earlier ones will have been upgraded by now. The fuel tanks can swell if cheap fuel is left in too long. Nothing too scary really, especially for an Italian

    dave please i have a question . im doing valves for the first time! my question is my clearance is 0.13-0.15. i can fit a 0.10 -0.15 .and a 0.20 there is more resistance but it still fits. so my question are my valves still to loose sinces i can fit a 0.20. sorry for my noobest lol. love love your videos thank you for all you do !

  • @obsession_engineering

    If a 0.2 fits, but is tight, I'd say the clearance is pretty much 0.2, so a bit loose if its supposed to be 0.15. .13-.15 seems a very small tolerance, if it's ducati I'd check if there's an 'in service' tolerance as they're sometimes bigger than the 'build' tolerance
