I Bought The CHEAPEST Mustang COBRA In The Country
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
A friend called and asked if I wanted a Mustang, I said no but send me the listing... and now I own this 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra Convertible. The 1995 Cobra is relatively rare making it 1 of 1003 produced, but this one was much more special, it was one of the 499 factory hardtop cars. Ryan took the top to use on his Cobra and left us with this dirt cheap yet very fun old SN95 Mustang.

Best quote I’ve heard in a while………..Jake:” the problem with old cars is, they’re old cars!”😂😂😂😂
Nice thing about Mustangs is you can find parts. Plus a huge aftermarket
Actually the monsoon sound system in late model Firebirds sounded pretty good. 10 speakers and a 500 watt amp from the factory.
Shout out to Jake! Working his regular hob plus Hoovie plus pretty much always in ur videos. Love it u the man Jake gotta show ya some love brother!
Nice car, JR. No matter how excited JR is, Jake is always so chill.
3k for a cobra is a steal. Back in the day that was the jam after the foxbody.
Fun fact: The 1994 owners manual shows you how to install the removable hardtop. The instructions were there because they intended to sell this option on the 94s. They even had sections in the 94 brochure about it, showing a white v6 with one installed. I believe ford only had that many built, and ended up just giving them to the 95 cobras instead, since it was such a pain.
The Cobra has a lot more power than the base 5.0. If you advance the timing it will wake up a bunch. It will respond well to a ported lower intake. Good headers and exhaust might help a bit too. You can probably get close to 300 hp at the wheels for maybe $1,000 if you have a way to tune the ECU (F cam, ported lower, exhaust). That's not crazy power but it's a convertible, you should build it to cruise more than race.

It probably needs a tuneup and better suspension

@beardoe6874

@@rocketscientist007it's rated at 245 crank horsepower which is probably a bit underrated but still a bit over 200 wheel stock. A cam, ported lower, exhaust and tune is going to make a lot more than a 15 hp improvement.
All of the 5.0 mustang engines were H/O during these years. The firing order for these were the same as the 351W as well. It was a 7/2 swap. The Cobra had the Cobra intake, GT40 heads and factory shorty headers. Regular GTs had 215hp and these were 240hp, as the power wars were just getting ready to go wild.

Wasn't there some change about how hp was measured in early 90s? No change in power on gt, but Ford went with new system so comparison to 4.6 later on wouldn't look terible.
@dalemontague7466
7 ай бұрын
@user-zb9he6ij8n there were some running changes during the fox body years. In 1985, the gt had a holley 4bbl and rated at 210hp. In 1986 they went fuel injection but lost 10hp, rated at 200hp. In 1987 they got the E7 heads and rated at 225hp. In 1987-88, depending on where the car was, they went from speed density to mass air for airflow calibration, but remained at 225 until 1993. In 1993 they changed from forged pistons to hyper U crack em pistons, but still kept the 225hp rating. In 1994, they changed the upper intake slightly, but they downgraded the hp rating to 210hp. There are rumors that it was downgraded so the switch to the 4.6L wouldn't look bad. Don't know if that's the real reason or rumors.

I'm also thinking there was another spec change around 2005 on hp ratings. Impacted the Japanese manufacturers more than others this time. Was trying to navigate the SAE website. Found some things. But not the most user friendly if not familiar with SAE documentation. But I do remember thinking it's not so straightforward to compare hp ratings over long periods of time.
Classic car. Jake is right about the wheels. If you find a set of staggered rims/tires and use adaptors it will modernize the car.
Yay!! The return of JR working on cars!!!!
The cobra mustangs have GT40 heads with 1.7 rockers along with a Gt40 / Cobra intake manifold. Also oil cooler. It’s a good car over all. Great find for 3 grand
I like the shop all set up, and nice to see car video's because you finally have a place to work on them. G-d bless y'all.
You picked this up for less than most would probably be able to pick up a 94-95 GT for. You got a steal on it. Congrats. It's a shame you didn't get the hard top with it, those things have to be CRAZY rare. I don't think you'll ever be able to get another one. The car looks great though. Overall, I think you got a hell of a deal on it!
Hell yeah! I've had a couple Foxbodies, my daily is an '89 Mercedes Coupe I swapped a 5.0/AOD into and love that combo, making around 300HP and sounds amazing.👌
That's an insane deal! Cobras not even running in Tennessee are going for 4500
Cobra hardtop convertibles are a one year 1995 only car. They came only in black exterior with the saddle tan interior. Very rare car. I don’t understand why the previous owner decided to keep the hardtop, I don’t think it would line up on an 03 convertible. That really devalues the car not having the hardtop.
Own a '04 SVT Cobra "terminator" (orig owner) w/4900mis. Garage queen. Glad i got one new bk then. So many ppl after me to sell it. I wont! The 03-04 SVT Cobras can make insane power w/minimal effort. The hand-built from factory 4.6L 32V DOHC engine is so sweet. 6spd tremec manual. Independent suspension. Only mods are SLP loudmouth cat bk exhaust & Steeda cold air intake. No engine tune. No aftermarket pulley on factory supercharger. Easily making 450hp+ nearly stock. New gen7 '24 Mustang Dark Horse 🐎 will soon sit next to it in my temp controlled garage. -NY
Jake.... "Oh it smells!" quickly takes another hit...
I like fact visually these Cobra cars need nothing besides lowering kit, rims, tires... hard to beat the looks of the 94-04 Cobra cars.
I had a 97 gt in high school. The mach 460 sound system was definitely a high point for the car.
Had one of these up to 145 with the top down! Previous owner said it did 155 with the top up
I’m actually deciding between the same gen Cobra and a 89 Fleetwood right now. They are low on power but still sick cars. Excellent score for $3k man!

Get the mustang for sure!!
I remember these when I was a kid, the chameleon paint one always had my attention, haven’t seen one in years.
My mom's H3 had a properly loud sound system with 6 disc changer. My 2017 Terrain had an absolutely banger pioneer system... It was about the only redeaming feature of having a terrain.
YES CARS AGAIN!!!!! not that I dislike the other stuff but I missed this kind of content!!!!
I had an SN95 earlier this year. A black 1994 GT manual. It was awesome. It was so much fun to drive. It had a lot of work done to it too. The engine was bumped up to about 300hp and LSD in the back. Really looking forward to this build. The SN95's are really so much fun for what they cost. Dirt cheap
Definitely not the worst possible car. These are very under appreciated cars. Could have had an anemic early four-eyed fox. Or worse, a Cobra II 😅

@@Davido50 Don’t be a troll. You know my point is that when talking about Mustangs that underperformed in stock form, there are worse cars to own than an early SN-95 Cobra. That has nothing to do with desirability, which you are correct that all foxes are desirable, even the early ones with 140 hp 5.0s. That doesn’t change the fact that they were anemic, as I originally said 🤪
Last year I brought in a 98 cobra triple black with a vert and 5 speed. She was a sight unseen buy and it had a kenne bell. It's been a year of labor but she's come around and is a good car. Check your throttle and clutch cables for wear so you don't get stuck when they snap.
Not gonna lie I was hoping once the shop was set up we'd finally get satisfaction on some of the old abandoned projects like the Rolls Or the Camaro.

Pretty positive all the roller 5.0 cars are the H.O. or 351 Firing order - to include foxbodies. Unless you had either a very old 302/289 with matching cam or just managed to run yours in the wrong order by swapping around to match the cam profile; it was the same.

A steal for $3K. It will be a great beater convertible for next summer. Something you don't have to worry about leaving somewhere with the top down. I wouldn't fix anything in the interior other than clean off tge gross stuff. I wouldn't put a stereo in it either. No one will bother with an old factory radio. Rear headroom is of no concern if you only drive it with the top down.
I couldn't resist. I love dialing old numbers. 1800COBRAES is now an adult talkline. At least most of the old Oldsmobile and Pontiac numbers still get you to some GM corporate office. Apparently Ford doesn't do that.

I so look forward to your content each day. Thanks!
194k miles? Mustang Granny was a driver for sure!
Love your channel, especially car centric videos. Excellent project 😊
All signs I'm seeing point to a leaky top. Condensation on the inside, destroyed spare tire cover. I speak from experience, 2012 Mustang convertible. On the spare tire cover I used the old one as a template and cut one out of 1/4 inch plywood. It's sturdier and will outlast the car.
It would be pretty sweet to polish and hang that hood somewhere in the new shop to commemorate the first build.
Mothers aluminum polish on the cobra picture 🌮👍
All 86 and up mustang 5.0 engines were "high output" and all came with factory shorty headers. When installing an aftermarket camshaft the firing order will usually revert back to the standard firing order versus the high output firing order.
Stoked for this build ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I bought a white hardtop 95 Cobra Mustang. I liked it at first, but it had many, many small details wrong. At least the dealership did give me a Fiesta (I think) loaner every time I needed warranty work. I had someone add a switch so that when you put the HVAC into "Defrost," the AC didn't come on. So it cleared the moisture much quicker than the stock system. Yes, my white one had a tan interior, including tan leather seats. I sold it within a year, but it was fun 'til then.
there are TWO good GnR songs one of which you mentioned, Welcome to the Jungle, the other is Sweet Child O' Mine

Good deal. So easy to work on.
That’s amazing that they kept the running horse.
So happy to see you back on cars again. Houses are neat. Trucks are cool. But cars are way better.
Cant beat Mustang Cobras . Excellent sports cars! 💯 👍🏻🐎
I’m very jealous, I’ve been looking for a reasonably priced hard top Cobra vert for the past few years after selling my Cobra a few years after we had triplets I really want another selfishly and to teach them how to drive a manual on a Mustang like I learned now that they are 16. I still have a Saleen speedster tonneau cover for when I find another. Looking forward to see more of this car on the channel sadly you didn’t get the hard top with it as it’s one of the best parts.
Wham amazing car!!! Wow!!! Finally a mustang! Can’t wait to see what you do with it!
I'd like to actually see the hardtop. I never knew that option existed
Nice shop! Turned out great. 👍
I would find a salvage Cobra with a good set of completed tan interior and transplant all interior over to your Cobra rather than try to restore the ones in there now. You'll also would have buttons and dash with no holes in it to swap it out as well too. Maybe the same interior and dashboard is also used in other Ford model cars instead of just Cobra so you might want to look into that.
i just replaced the steering wheel in my 95 mustang cobra from late model restoration for $230.00 what a difference highly recommended.
Those were awesome cars and under appreciated. Getting hard to find good ones anymore.
Nice ride brother!
Looks like a fun project!
I owned one of these new and it was a fine ride, You will enjoy this one to work on and play with.
Your friend Alex from LSC had cleaned off the paint off the seats of a BMW. Took a bit of elbow grease. Turned out good. Not sure if that is the direction you will be going?
This is what the channel needed to come back from!!!
For a minute at that outro I thought you were Alex from LSC! 😂
A little black vinyl tape on the top and bottom of the headlight to continue the black line of the turn signals improves the front end 1000%.
100% Jake sulking in the back...
Yayyyyy first project car in the new shop!!! 🤘🏽🔥❤️
The last year of the SN95 that you can ride in your 5.0 with the ragtop down so your hair can blow. In 1996, they went to the 4.6.
Hope you fix it up! Just bought a 1983 Mustang GT Convertible not many built because it's the first year they brought back the Convertible. It's rare just over a 1000 were built in 1983, no rust, it's a low mileage California car. Nice Cobra btw!
Cheap is good but the next gen is better. Especially in silver, like my dad's.
They very end had me cracking up so hard😂😂❤
Glad to see some old beat-up car content.
I had one about 10years ago. It was a 94 Cobra. It was #3035 of 5009 black on black 5spd cobras 🐍 that were made in 94. I just started a family at the time and ended up selling it 😢 Damn I miss it.
Ahh the good old days of Ford Brook Park engine plant 1 and 2 . Both gone now . But very sweet ride.
Thank you for reiterating that the Mustang in the grill came factory on the Cobras. So many people try and correct me when I also had a ‘94 Cobra.🙄
Hey, it’s a Mustang, if it runs it is always desirable. My buddy had a 68 fastback with the 6 cylinder and even it could break the rear wheels loose on pavement.🎉
After years of watching your channel, I FINALLY guessed the name of the episode. I just want to throw that out there.

I’ve seen a few of these for sale, I wish someone would reproduce those hard tops because they make the convertibles look almost indistinguishable from a coupe
ProCharger did the first intercooled supercharger for the Foxbody. ATI company car with stock engine & P600B did 12's. I have the same.
Former friend of mine had a 99 Cobra, had black interior, maybe they changed that from 95 to 99. As much as I hate Fords, I am looking forward to you fixing and cleaning this thing up.
I believe it would also have 24lb injectors, a bigger maf, and a different computer than the standard 5.0 HO. (Gt) which would have 19lb injectors.
Back to the Snakes, JR? 😄 Looks like you have all the tools back in action to bite into the project! 😁

Nice to see you back buying cheap cars to work on
Welcome to the family 🤙🏼
Fun fact about the cobras the customer sued Ford because their advertised torque and horsepower was way down I think it was around 2:45 horsepower and I don't remember the torque but in actuality it came out to 215 HP safford offered them I think a cam headers and some other things or they can take the cash I don't remember but if you research it you can find out the exact numbers
I was wondering about the Mustang when I saw the background in yesterdays vlog.
Heck, seems like a good deal. I've been offered that much for my stock v6 SN95 convertible. The trip-meter should be an easy fix. Mine was broke too. a 5$ gear fixed it. hour of time, I've got a video on it. ;)
Good to see the Kansas JR used car market adjustment $3k for a cobra there would get you a GT in Ottawa ON. Great to see you and Jake back in your natural hooptie habitat! That hood definitely is old enough to be "cool" again!
my 2010 gx460 with the mark levinson sound is incredible. people ask me if i have a system in it all the time. it sounds better then any aftermarket system i have heard but i havent heard that many good ones
Hmm I don't think I have ever seen a hard top Mustang convertible. This has alot of promise!

I don’t think it’s right to part a perfectly good cobra, just for the hardtop. If it were totaled, that’s one thing, but it’s a perfect good car, and that hardtop was specifically designed for it. There is (or was) an aftermarket company called “Smoothline” that made hardtops for these. Just like Ford experienced, it’s a pain in the butt to fit and prep, but I have one on my 94, and love it! It installs a bit differently, but it’s easy enough.
My new edge is my baby, my favorite car I’ve ever owned
