The SN95 Mustang & why NOW is the time to buy one

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The SN95 Mustang is Ford's fourth generation of the original pony car. It was produced between 1994 and 2004 and is sometimes referred to as the Fox-4 Mustang. I see these cars as underappreciated and the next Mustang to take off in price. The SN95 Mustang was a dramatic improvement in not only the ride but also in handling dynamics of the Fox-body Mustang that preceded it. It just was a better car all around. Since the Foxbody cars prices have increased dramatically over the last few years, can the SN95’s be far behind and is now the time to buy a nice one?

Picked up a '98 Cobra ragtop to take to cars shows in S Fla. This thing is a BLAST to drive, especially with the top down. I've been up-grading it; Flowmaster axle-back, new progressive springs, new shocks (there's 6, all had lost their nitrogen gas), aluminum driveshaft, 3-row radiator, MSD plug wires, new steering wheel, Pioneer digital in-dash looks factory & uses existing amps & speakers, all fluids changed. Only major fix: the hydoboost brake booster needed rebuilding (powered by power steering fluid, not vacuum). Doesn't need it but will do a clutch soon...29,700 miles!

I was looking for a car for racing in Targa events in New Zealand back in 2010. I found a 96 Cobra which was an ex-Japan car which already had a cage, race seats, modified bilsteins etc in it. I bought it for the equivalent of around $9k usd. Since then I have done over 20,000 mostly race miles on it and modified it reasonably heavily but without touching engine internals. The Cobra of 96-97 was the pick of the bunch of the SN95 in my opinion. Very easy to make better with lowered and stiffened suspension, upgraded brakes etc, although the standard Cobra brakes are pretty good anyway. And the best part about them is the sound. Pull the rear mufflers off and they are one of the best sounding Mustangs ever. I also have a 2000 Gt that has many of the same mods done but just doesn't sound as good, have just sold a 2011 Coyote GT, also lowered, and have just recently bought a 2022 Series 2 RTR which I absolutely love.

i agree as long as you buy the 94/95 and 97 up or the cobra or some other special model with more power. the 94/95 have a 5.0 engine that is easier and more responsive to modify. the 97 and up had 260 and the cobra 305 hp. the 96 had only 215 hp and the performance just isnt there. plus it cost way too much to modify and you will probably get 300 hp? just not worth it. in my opinion having owned a 96 saleen stay away if it isnt a higher hp model. skip 94 and up, anything GT and get the cobra or mach 1 or terminator. the engine is great and reliable but you can get that with a honda or toyota, a mustang is about performance and the sn95 mustang GT just doesnt have it.

  • @salesposito2290
    @salesposito22905 ай бұрын

Also, forgot to mention, while I do feel handling, ride, and braking was improved over the previous Fox, the reason the Mustang community is generally less enthusiastic about the 94-98s was their lackluster acceleration at the time compared to the Fox (due to the weight gain), and currently the rounded jelly bean 90s styling that hasn’t aged so well. Sorry for the long rant. Lol

True, but the difference is the performance of those early foxes was in context for their time. By the time the mid-90s hit, cars were expected to be faster. A 94-98 GT was putting out 0-60 and quarter mile times no faster than an 85 GT. @@TonysFordsandMustangs

The SN95 is literally the most affordable sporty car a car guy can have in 2024. Every other car that was supposed to be an affordable fun car has been abused that the only ones that remain go for $15k+ A beat up GTI with 180k will set you back $7k, and one in decent condition will cost you $15k. I find GTIs interesting but I’m not a fan of them to justify spending that much for one from 2009. Same could be said about every other hot hatchback and cheap Japanese sports cars.

They were cheap when compared to other cars of the day. That said you get rattles in every car over time. The materials that were used to dampen sound break down and just don't do the job anymore. Thanks for watching!

dude, the fox mustangs have ALWAYS been popular, even when the SN95 was the current bodystyle. Hell even when the S197 came out, the fox was still hot. The SN95 has NEVER been "hot" (unless you count the very niche terminator cobra, and maybe the 2 cobra R models, but those are just specialty in general) and I've had 3 of them, so I'm not exactly a hater. Maybe I'll eat my words in 10 years, but I just don't see any SN95 outside of a cobra being worth anything, and even the cobra it'll have to be a low mile very clean example

I have to disagree. The SN95 sales numbers speak for themselves and the FOX #'s trailed off quite a bit near the end of production. The 87-93 Fox GT's could be had for next to nothing on the used market when the SN95 first appeared on the scene and have only in the last 10 years have really started to be appreciated by the collector market. As with many things what is old is new again. That will be the fate of the SN-95's as well. As soon as most of the nice 1st gen foxbody's are snapped up and locked away by collectors people will look for an alternative that isn't priced out of their market range. That's when the SN-95's prices will start to escalate especially the Cobra's.

I've never been a fan of the exterior styling on the SN95. It was a time when Ford was going overboard with their "bubble design", and the SN95 looked more economical than the last few years of the original Fox Body. Ford did a good job with the New Edge. It was a smoother, cleaner exterior design that had a more muscular look than the SN95.

I like those cars when they are optioned correctly. They will be the next Mustang to become collectible. Some of the New Edge cars are getting there now. The Cobras and Mach 1's are already climbing in price. Thanks for watching

I have a 98 v6 5 speed manual. Completely stock and the rear wheel fitment is so ugly lol.

Wheels can be changed, offset can be changed, you can even put a new edge rear axle in it that moves the rear wheels out 20mm

As time passes more people will become nostalgic for the look. Once that generation gets closer to retirement they will want one and the price will go up. That's what's happening to foxes now. I was never fan of the 87 -93 GT but there are a lot of people who love them.

Ford guys were damn stupid when engineering that gen Mustang. They already had very good MN12 platform suitable for pony cars too, still the Mustang got instead dated Fox undepinnigs. Such a damn shame.

Which is ironic because it's consensual in the Mustang community that the new edge cars were cheapened up, especially in the interiors. Lower quality seat, door panel and dash material. Not saying they were bad cars, but the cost cutting by Ford was apparent.

No Crack here. It's the same Platform but with improved rigidity. Ford did spend 700 Million dollars to improve the car and it did indeed become a better handling and riding car. Looks wise is debatable but in the handling department it was a better car.

No offense but it looks like your the one smoking crack. Sn95 Better brakes, handles better, better interior, if fox body are better why fox people take parts from sn95 to fox bodys?? 5 wheels logs, cobra brakes, etc. By the way I currently own 1987 mustang gt , a 1994 svt cobra and a 2020 gt 10 speed so yea I know for person fact. I'll take my 94 svt cobra ant time over a foxbody.

The sn95 is light years ahead of the fox. I love the looks of the fox but dang they ride like crap. I have a 95 cobra and 93 cobra. 95 is definitely put together better than the fox.

I was told to buy a V8 instead of weld my own floors. If the Car has Rot Buyer Beware. If the community was helpful I would still have my Atlantic blue 98 But instead people crushed 100,000 vipers. You people are useless car is also trash anyone car but it. Why it was a realistic goal Even for me. It's a terrible car and if more people are going to be buying these to put hello kitty on the side then you will be priced out of the need of transportation or hobby like with a Mazda Miata. Times have changed I can't take the fenders off a 32 ford to go faster. HISTORY
