I Bought The Cheapest Guitar from Amazon

Музыка

__ PLEASE SUBSCRIBE __
I wanted to simply buy a guitar off Amazon based on price alone. This guitar was $90, with free shipping. It's a full sized electric guitar. There are some "cheaper" than this one, but when you add shipping, the basement price seems to be right around 80 to 90 bucks. I didn't even read the description, just bought it sight unseen to see what I'd end up with. The result surprised me.

    I’d say it’s less surprising that these inexpensive guitars are actually decent instruments and more surprising that they get delivered without being damaged in shipping

    @@Hellwilliam1 I bought a Luckwbq strat. Came only single boxed and it looked like it hadn’t been too beat up. However, when I opened it, there was a big bashed spot on the side that chipped the finish off. You can’t see it from the front, and nothing else was wrong with it, so I kept it. I probably would’ve damaged it like that myself eventually anyway.

    I started playing guitar on a cheap guitar when I was a child, and sometimes it was frustrating. I can see where the Debut vs. Pacifica person is coming from. But good lord are these modern "cheap" guitars not the same cheap guitars we had back then. They were so much worse. I'd have been over the moon with this Guitar or a Squire Debut. What you get for the price is astonishing. If anything this will inspire more young people to pick up this beautiful hobby in my opinion. Great Video, I'll gladly sub to this channel.

    That’s already a better buy than a Squier. Great modding platform. Put some good pickups in there, swap the tuners out, and you’ll have a sweet guitar. Along with dressing the fret ends.

    I think that's the plan. I'm going to do a video about filing sharp ends down, then yeah, maybe the tuners, although I like these vintage style, as long as these are decent I'll keep them. I might seal the neck too and then change out the pickups. Although I've been playing with this one for a bit here, and it's probably one of the best sounding cheap guitars I've bought. I really need to round all these guitars up and do some sound demos with a backing track.

    I am amazed how decent these cheap guitars are. I am a furniture builder who started building guitars several years ago. I made my first couple completely from scratch. Then I discovered I could buy these super cheap kits and end up at the same place! Amazing. The setup is the MAIN thing. The cheapest guitar on earth can be made decent if the frets are level, the neck is straight, the nut is fitted (I throw away the plastic one and make my own) and the saddle is adjusted. Even the crappy tuners are acceptable if you use a good luther's knot. My wife gave me a $3000 Martin D-28 for my birthday and I STILL had to adjust the nut, saddle and truss rod a little to get it playing good. I am a big believer in cheap guitars! Thanks for the honest review!

    The frets stick out of the fretboard, not of the neck. An unsealed neck will likely be more sensitive to humidity variations. Truss rod adjustments might be required more often. The headstock is fine. The bird beak is a way of being individual, so it doesn't look like it's trying to copy another brand. I like a thinner body. I prefer lighter guitars but a full thickness body makes it possible to replace the bridge without worrying about size if one wants to. It sounds alright. Intonation is not an issue. It will be off after the first string change anyway.

  • @JayceAllanGuitar

    Correct. I actually bought some new hardware, including a steel trem block for my Squier Debut, they make shortened versions to fit thinner bodies. I'm curious to see if it makes a difference.

    @@JayceAllanGuitar A competent comparison would be interesting. A weightier block brings inertia, which ought to improve the high end a little but I'm afraid people exaggerate this. What I know from experience is that stiffer springs do this in a more significant way.

    Just to play "Devil's Advocate" for a bit, I imagine that these guitars are shipped over the ocean from China to The United States on container ships. With all of that salty sea splashing around and a couple of rainstorms, I'm guessing the humidity on those ships is HIGH. If this is the case, the wood would be swollen from the absorption of water from the air. Once this guitar acclimates to the humidity of your home, I would expect the neck to shrink. Then, I predict that you will REALLY see some "fret sprout."

  • @JayceAllanGuitar

    @JayceAllanGuitar

    2 ай бұрын

    I'm sure all sorts of factors can effect the wood, especially since the neck is unfinished. I'm guessing the containers are pretty hot and humid. The fact that these guitars show up in as good condition as they do given that fact is amazing.

  • @LydiaOfTheNorth

    @LydiaOfTheNorth

    Shipping containers are actually waterproof. They are sealed for this exact reason. That's why you can ship cars and basically every good imaginable overseas without them rusting. Containers with heat sensitive contents are usually stored below deck where the temperature is quite consistant.

    A Super Strat with full body, Kluson style tuners, slab fingerboard, roller string tree, and worse, similar sunburst finish to vintage Strats for about AUD $140 ??? 😮I could buy it for the body alone a be way ahead. Swap the pickups, the 6 screw trem system and if the tuners are shoddy, replace with Kluson tuners from Fender. Pots seem OK as it is, depend on cavity but even high end ESP's I've seen with the "dime" ones. Clean up the frets etc. stain the neck (maybe a touch of Linseed oil) and headstock to that faded nitro look and would look a treat.🤩 Most of these cheap (Amazon US) guitars don't ship to Australia but there are some real bargains in the US.
