    I'd be beyond happy with the 36k subs and 1 to 2k a month. But, I have to up my production and topics. I just took whoever with me on a journey from learning guitar from 2019. Before I had played keys and before that 27 years of drumming with a long hiatus. Now I have a kit again but rare to play due to sound in neighborhood. As far as reviewing , you are offering a service. People love watching reviews. Keep doing you man. Yeah it's a saturated market but hey, everyone deserves a chance. I hope to grow one day. Peace.

    I was actually pretty shocked when I posted those first few shorts and they got into the 10's of thousands of views over night. So I went all in on the shorts, then when I posted a long form video it was like crickets! LOL So spun the guitar reviews off. I enjoy doing reviews, mainly because I like to talk and also like guitars. It's more about making content and guitars are the thing I know the most about, yet don't, if that makes sense.

    I own all kinds of priced guitars. From Glarry to Firefly. The most I have spent was for an EVH Stndrd. I also own the lowest cost PRS SE CE Satin. The Satin is hands down one of the best guitars I have ever owned and played. I also just ordered a Debut, with plans of modding it to look like the 40th Anniversary Squier. In the future once all my current gear is paid off, I plan on buying a PRS S2. I have a friend who shits all over Squier. To the point where I sold my affinity out of shame. I enjoyed this video. I'm getting overwhelmed with the "cheap gear" craze. I swore by Peavey guitars and gear for 30 years until Peavey fell apart. It was cheaper good quality equipment in my opinion. I almost never go any farther than Mexican made Fenders for electric. Acoustics I'll spend a little more but stay at the bottom end of Taylor or Martin. Good stuff Jayce. On anothewr note, I always buy really nice Fender basses for my wife just to spoil her. Her main P Bass is worth more than my best 3 guitars combined.

    Fellow Michigander here. Great video. I love guitars. I can't tell you why exactly, but I do. I have mostly moderately priced guitars, but I'll buy any good guitar that interests me regardless of the price if I can afford it. The most I've ever paid for a guitar is the $3400 that I recently spent on a new Heritage Custom Core Artisan Aged H-150 Plain Top. That said, anyone with common sense who's been enjoying You Tube vids for any length of time knows that most creators aren't making much, if any money off of YT. For most, it's a labor of love and the desire to share their hobby and interests. We know that a catchy title and thumb nail is necessary in order to get people's attention. I don't have a problem with click bait, as long as it actually relates to the video's topic. The problem with any public forum are the trolls, who are argumentative dopes and bullies in most cases, who really need to be ignored. The best course of action is to ignore them. My motto is "Don't feed the trolls." It's hard not to, I know, but ignoring them is the best way to go. Cheers!

    I agree. My goal is to remove the stigma sometimes associated with cheap guitars. I used to think that in order to become a great guitar player, I needed to buy an expensive brand name guitar, but after I bought some expensive guitars, I realized that my sound didn't change. I sounded the same as I did on a cheaper guitar. So people "chasing tone" need to realize that the return on your investment with an expensive guitar may be less than you realize. There is no silver bullet to playing and sounding better, and in fact, some of us will reach a plateau in our playing ability and stay there, no matter how much we practice. I can practice until I drop dead to be a world record marathon runner, but I will never become one. But that doesn't mean I can't train for a marathon and complete it.

    I actually like that you have reviewers going over these cheaper guitars because somebody like myself who is looking to get into learning to play guitar is realizing just how many options that there are for me to choose from. Unlike many hobbies that take a fairly high investment, it seems that the guitar world has gotten to a point where you have an easier time buying Without having to pay a high price for decent equipment. I don’t have the funds to be able to buy $1000 guitar due to where I am at in life. Having kids in a wife really makes it hard to justify spending that kind of money on myself. This is why I appreciate reviews on cheaper guitars so that I know I can make my dollar go further while looking to spend money to get into the hobby. I’m 39 years old and looking to buy my first guitar which guitar would you recommend?

    I appreciate that. My thoughts exactly. If you go through my reviews, pretty much any of those guitars are fine. If you don't want to have to do a setup or futz with sharp fret ends, maybe stick with a Squier or even the Firefly, but sometimes those can be hit or miss as far as quality. The Donner DST 100 is a great guitar. Tease guitars are also really good and didn't need any setup. The nice thing about Tease is the guy that runs the company is in the US, and they have US based support and will make it right if your guitar comes damaged or needs setup. The GearIT strat I got was pretty decent too. I'm reviewing a Auriga strat that is really nice and cost $90 on Amazon (free Prime shipping) came with a gig bag, strap, picks, and cable, but does have slightly sharp fret ends and need some intonation. But for $90! Poplar body, rosewood fretboard. I should have that video up this morning.

    I got a couple great cheap guitars. I use my Korean made casino as the standard..300 bucks with gator case. Light,absolutely incredible action and sound. CNC machines leveled the playing field but i suspect theres some review nonsense going on. I just bought and sent back a much touted 12 string cheap acoustic..the reviews showed great action and playability..Neck made out of Okuma wood ,after acclimating guitar, i attempted to tune it.The neck began to pitch so bad it was unplayable beyond 4th fret..they gave instructions on trussrod adjustment. NO WAY playing with the trussrods gonna correct that. Couldn't bring bring it to standard tuning so i left it a whole step down..still junk. I understand some sites charge a fee to review manufacturers gear..must be where the moneys at.Also some reviews warned of easily scratched finish and strings breaking during tuning...WARNING right there. Cheap strings yes..reflects on manufacturer. Im rough on my casino and IVY and SX guitars. No problem with them,in fact im gonna get another IVY like the one i sold last year. Really like your channel but people should pay more attention sometimes more to the negative reviews on " Much Touted " gear. Theres subtle warning signs

    Sometimes it's a no win situation. I can't say enough good things about my Firefly strat that I got back in November. It was a black Friday deal, so got it for less than $150! That guitar reminds me of a Schecter Nick Johnston start that I reviewed. Roasted neck, stainless rounded end frets, rosewood fretboard, alder body, locking tuners, and Alnico pickups. The Schecter retails for almost 10X the firefly, yet the Firefly is as good if not better than the Schecter. Seriously. People simply don't believe me when I say it. They think I'm lying. Or they think because I'm not an expert player than I just don't know what a good guitar is. But some people have had absolutely miserable experiences with Firefly. So that type of person will see my review and think I'm being paid to say "nice things". Unfortunately there are quality issues with any brand. Sometimes a bad product will sneak through. I mean go on Amazon. You can have a product with 4-1/2 stars with thousands of positive reviews and still have 5 or 6 percent of the reviews be 1 star and people saying that that product is junk. So it's tough to be a reviewer sometimes. We're damned if we do, damned if we don't. I try to simply show people what I got out of the box and provide my experience. And usually you can tell when a reviewer isn't being completely honest, because they won't have ANY negatives to say about an item. That's a red flag. Like the last guitar I reviewed. It's a nice guitar but the fret ends are sharp and the intonation is way off. So I stated that. Someone else may get one of those guitars and it's perfect. I think that's why these reviews are so popular because people want a variety of opinions. If you only follow one reviewer, your only getting one side of the story. Thanks for watching.

    You pretty much have to. I did some experimenting with titles and content, and say you review a guitar, a Squier Classic Vibe 50 for example. If your title is "I REVIEW THE SQUIER CLASSIC VIBE 50" you will get some views, mostly people that want to know about the Squier Classic Vibe 50 or have searched for that specific term. Your video will basically die, because KZread won't push it out if the algorithm thinks it's not popular. So then post the same video with the title "Classic Vibe Beats The Fender MIM" or "Squier Shows What a True Vintage Guitar Is" stuff like that. It makes people go "I gotta see this". Then, if you made a claim like the Classic Vibe is better than a Fender MIM, people will debate it in the comments. All that engagement drives up views and then KZread awards you video by pushing it to more people. It's simple supply and demand. Also, Phil's a great guy. Love watching his content. Thanks for tuning in.

  • @JayceAllanGuitar

    @JayceAllanGuitar

    2 ай бұрын

    Not sure I understand your comment. Typically click bait is a bait and switch type title where you think you’re clicking on one thing but the video is about something completely different. The title is designed to lure viewers in. I think this label is erroneously applied to channels that may use a hook or a slightly exaggerated title to capture an audience’s attention. There’s a difference. But most people simply call it all “click bait”. So if I’m reviewing a guitar that I think could rival a Fender MIM Strat, than instead of a title “I review an XYZ” guitar, I write “look out Fender there’s a new sheriff in town” or something like that. So what I am defending is what people “perceive” as click bait but really isn’t. It’s just creating a title with a good hook. True click bait is “He fell to his death” then you get some video that is a movie clip or something completely unrelated. True click bait was actually developed to push pay per click ads and malware. I don’t think that’s what any guitar reviewers on YT are trying to do.

  • @AnnoyingCritic-is7rp
    @AnnoyingCritic-is7rpАй бұрын

    I think there's an appearance of a conflict of interest because you want clicks. I don't think it matters if it's an expensive guitar or a cheap guitar - or any product on KZread. Try buying anything today on KZread and 99% of the reviews are all positive and they attract people who have had positive experience and so it's all a lie. Some of the most popular channels just have flashy looking videos or a charismatic personality. And so the best videos to me are the ones that have objective information. For example Philip McKnight will take a fret rocker and show you if the frets are level. You don't have to depend on his opinion or if he happens to play a fret that buzzes or not. He uses a sort of standard system to measure if the fret ends are sharp.

  • @JayceAllanGuitar

    Phil owned a guitar shop for years I guess. I guess I don't understand your first comment about the conflict of interest for clicks. @@JayceAllanGuitar What a coincidence! I was just watching Alan Ross reviews who does Bluetooth speakers. And Anker was going to give him a free speaker but he said he would have to have final edit and they turned him down. Allan Ross just made this video. He showed us the instructions that the company gave him to review the speaker. It was a Soundcore plus two. And they tell you what to say! So I really think that this is evidence that most reviews are positive for a reason: to get free gear to review on their channel. I don't think it's money they get, but it's free gear, and that means clicks, and if you get enough then you can monetize it and the channel can bring in income. And I think this explains why most reviews on KZread are positive and biased.

  • @-KingOfKhaos

    @-KingOfKhaos

    Ай бұрын

    @@AnnoyingCritic-is7rpActually most of the better KZread gear reviewers don’t do reviews if they don’t have final edit, or if they are given talking points to use, or don’t disclose the video has sponsored portions. And it’s usually fairly easy to determine who is doing that and who isn’t. As for only positive reviews, I don’t see that being the case at all, especially with budget guitar reviews on Amazon or any other website including Sweetwater. There are ample negative reviews often with very lengthy written comments as to WHY the item got a 1, 2 or 3 star review instead of a 4 or 5 star review. Honestly you can quickly learn what the real issues are with a budget guitar reading those negative reviews and often, it’s someone with limited knowledge of guitars or guitar setup, shipping delays or relatively minor issues that are simple to fix.

    Big brands now have to compete with the budget guitar that are as good, if not better in some cases, as the more expensive brands. Brand however is everything on the instrument. Without it, people are going to think you suck at playing. As someone who just want something to practice on, brand doesn't matter much. The entertainment value that comes with reviewing is what gets views. Just reviewing guitar for what it is, a playable instrument, isn't going to get many views. unless you are godlike in your playing skills. I watch for the budget guitars, and I'm interested in your homebuild guitars as well. Knowing where a guitar is made is important to me too. A made in USA or mexico deserves it, but these are often too expensive for the common man. If something budget brand can match a 450 dollar squire, tough luck squire. These low end brand names are getting too expensive.

If Joe Satriani played a First Act guitar on stage, the next day sales of First Act guitars would go through the roof. Guitar companies are selling a lifestyle or image as much as they are selling guitars. And I could agree more about your comment about entertainment value getting the views. Look at Glenn Fricker's channel. Almost 600k subs and nearly a million views a month. He's killing it. Mostly because of his personality. Then you have guys like Guitar Max. He's a great content creator, don't get me wrong, but he comes across as a bit stiff and serious, but his playing is amazing, and he looks like a Viking King so that doesn't hurt either. I think if the big guitar companies are going to compete in the market, they are going to have to bring their prices down or at least offer cheaper options. It used to be that Squier and Epiphone were cheaper options, have you seen the prices on Epiphones lately?! Wow. I'd say that if someone wanted a Fender, get a made in Mexico on the used market. Thanks for the comment.

    @@JayceAllanGuitar Agree. MIM are an excellent value on the used market. The ceramic pups sound really good. A lot of reviewers actually prefer the sound of them, including Darrell Braun if I recall correctly.

    Most of you aren't getting rich, but many of the big ones are able to pay the rent shilling for guitar companies.

    Again they have to disclose if their video contains a paid promotion. It shows up as a tag right at the start of the video. I’m not defending people that won’t give a bad review because they’re given gear for free. But YT does its best to prevent anyone from being deceived. I guess ask the question why do some of these channels have over a million subs?

    I will never watch any more of your videos. I watched the "toy" video which I couldn't understand why the title was nothing like the content of your video. I wasted several minutes of my life and won't do that again.
