Amazon is super weird about sellers selling things. So if the item is possibly opened, they can’t sell it as new even if it was never used. So some of these “like new” items are probably brand new with minor defects in packaging from the third party seller. Like new in package video games, even if the plastic is barely open or ripped on a corner, most sellers sell them as “like new” so they don’t get dinged by the buyers or amazon for saying it was new

I buy from the Amazon warehouse a lot. I found that if you click on the list of all of the sellers you can read a description under each listing of the condition. They will sometimes even tell you what is missing and if there is any damage and where it might be on the item. It definitely helps in deciding if it is worth the risk. I think a lot of the items are not actually used but have some damage to the packaging from shipping and storage at the warehouse.

I can tell you, from a used to be Amazon inspector 😂, that it goes by a system that we fill out on a computer and that tells us what category it goes in. Even if we are looking at it and are saying “hey this shouldn’t be resold” sometimes it will tell us that it can.

I order used Amazon products a lot and have had success on almost every item. It's a great way for me, a struggling artist, to pinch pennies. Of course I must tell you my one miss in otherwise great products. To be fair, it was marked as "acceptable ". Let me assure you, it was anything but. I opened that bad boy up expecting it to be good to go like all my previous things but imagine my surprise to find that it had been used as a dog toy!!! That's not hyperbole, it was chewed up with obvious teeth marks! I could not believe my eyes. When I contacted Amazon the rep got snarking with me asking "did you not read the acceptable part of the listing?" I almost lost my religion then and there! Needless to say, after I explained that nowhere in the description did it inform me it was a used dog treat, thus, in nobody's world it would be acceptable, i was given a full refund. I can laugh about it now, but at the time, it wasn't humorous in the least.🤣🤣

I think someone opened the edge flap, saw a pencil had a big split splinter in it from the factory and returned it. It was the light peach color and not important for my project so I just crazy glued it back together and you can't tell the 1 pencil was damaged.

"Stabilo" pronounciation guide from someone who used them since i learned how to use pens its german so the "st" at the beginning is actually pronounced "sht" (like the "its all about the mets Shpida man" meme) and the "bilo" at the end is "bee loh" so together its "shta bee loh" This has been your friendly german guiding you through our stupid pronounciation, have a nice day! also great video obviously!

Girl let me tell you, stabilo fine liners are the best. I bought mine in 2012 and not a single one is dried out yet! I own all their highlighters too, some I bought as far back as 2009. Really the best investment I've made in Stationary!

It's so amazing to me (as a German) that people are so amazed and for us they're just a normal everyday thing. There's even a thing in German schools where people pick them up from floors or "steal" them from other students because everyone has them and constantly loose them because they're just so common.

I used to get them from art shops and my mom's college bookstore as a kid in the 80s, they were a trend and they only cost like 49 cents. Now I prefer micron pens because the ink is waterproof but I have a soft spot for all Stabilo

I tend to buy mostly secound, "damaged" or "package open", things are usually in almost perfect condition with some hits on the box and at it worst, you'll be missing a small thing that's actually cheaper than how much you saved in the first place.

I sent back a set of oil pastels that I hadn’t even opened the delivery box more than a tiny cut to slip the return paperwork in, wonder if someone got a good bargain on that . I ordered a set of 72 Paul Rubin’s thinking it was new colours not just the same colours from smaller sets mashed together. Before it was even out for delivery I found out some colours had been renamed in English to confuse me and I in fact already had the complete collection, this what you get for midnight buying spree’s when you don’t do proper research 😂.

Just to clarify, the used products are not necessarily returns. Sellers can mark them as used in some categories. If you look at the listing it should tell you who the seller is. You may have gotten a mix of third party seller items and warehouse deals. If it's from Amazon warehouse deals, those may be returns but more often than not, they were inventory from a third party seller that was either damaged or previously lost in the warehouse(and later found). If it's lost or damage, Amazon will take ownership of the inventory and reimburse the seller, then turn around to sell it at a discount to recoup some of the loss. That's why a lot of them come in such good condition. Lost items are usually going to be like new and a lot of warehouse damage is more to the outer box and container so even acceptable ones are pretty good.

This was interesting - thanks for sharing this "reveal" on these categories. I've only once bought something that I think was probably in the "very good" category, and it was a toaster oven/air fryer. I think the original price was something like $189, and I got it for around $103, and it only had the teensiest scratch on the side. I use this thing every day and absolutely LOVE it, and it saved me a bundle!
