I bought another cheap Ducati! Can I make profit on a 749 project?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Dave got an itchy trigger finger and pulled the pin on another cheap Ducati, but will it lead to profit or will it be a nightmare in a pretty red dress?
In episode one Dave strips the 749 and uncovers what he's really bought

Dave, I can store some bikes for you. I’ll even ride them to keep them tickety boo for you 😂
Nice tip with the scotchbrite pad gives it just the right amount of shine 👍 thanks will give it a go
Polar white base with ford cardinal red from duplicolor matches the factory paint very well. My 749 has mega upgrades and mega hours of cleaning and is now monoposto with fullsix carbon fiber seat cowl. Nice bikes!
Yes Dave! Your 748 series kept me from losing my mind during lockdown, and is part of the reason why I now own a 996. Hope to see you again at Rapid track days next year 🙏

It's the same reason I now own a 748 😂 Damn you Dave.
Look forward to seeing the vids through winter boredom. 👍🏻
Made me laugh when you said there some paint left on the engine cases lol
It’s certainly the weather for getting stuck into a project bike - no shortage of rain in the background 🎉 Going to enjoy watching this one
Terblanche brilliance. Had an 749s and now a 1098s and the amount of screws to remove the fairing on the 1098s compared to the 749 is just ridiculous. A bit more punch though! 😆
A Ducati 749 has just come up for sale in Perth WA for $5k cheap! Oh did I mention it doesn’t run 😢
OOOOh can't wait! I've picked up a lot of small techniques from Dave's process that I've adapted into my mechanical process. Dave's a rare one, top rider and wrench man!!
Could of carried on watching this all day, can we have atleast a 3hr episode next time please 🤣
Great Ducati project looking forward to the next episodes
Buzzing to see this series. I too, like everyone else here, just love watching you work. I dont think any of us would mind feature-legth edits of the whole process. Watching you carry out your work is just as Zen as doing it myself, and that isn't the same when it comes to anyone else, even though others still make for enjoyable viewing. Hopimg for regular uploads on this ☺️

Not sure my laptop can cope with feature length 😂 But really do appreciate the positive feedback
That dry clutch always bugged me the way they rattle, although at 70 on the back wheel of an 1100 Hyper, it’s not noticeable lol. If you have one, I have two words for you, STEERING DAMPER
Just came across it on ebay, and had to search for the video’s. Great work as always Dave 👌 thanks for the gearing tip at Scarborough aswel
Haaaaang about.... rewind to last round of BSB, and we were chatting at Paddock Hill about a 749R I was about to buy.... then a 749 magically appears on the channel!!! Can i claim an influencer fee on any YT revenues?! 😂😂 Just kidding, was great meeting you and Franco after his double in the junior s/stocks. As it happens, my 749R didn't happen (the dealer i mentioned went back on the deal where BSD were going to service it). Soooo.... very much like you, I bought a 999 Bip last weekend, a mk2 from a forum member; 14k miles with a very large servicing receipt just completed. A few cosmetic bits to do, and a fairing-off detail, but nothing major. Can't wait to ride it, bloody weather.....grrr. Thanks for the content Dave, very much enjoying it and maybe bump into you at Brands next season (good luck Franco!)

Good because they are a nice appreciating classic bike,,very much over looked ,,👍 looking forward to seeing the next part
splendid upload mate as always thanks for the share! cheers.
I love these fixing videos the best Dave 👍🏻 brilliant thanks
Nice one Wavey...... btw, those wooden footrest stands at the end of the vid look familiar !
Dave another epic bike re- jeuvenation build series 👌
Inspiring as always, Davros 👌🏼
I love your videos! Other bike technicians take note! Dave's work ethic is the reason he can afford the watch he as on!!

Actually a great bike to ride on the road
Great video 👍
Great. Looking forward to this. The rear wheel disc bolts look odd (7:17ish).

They're triggers for the speed sensor, so probably different to give a complete magnetic signature
Nice machine Dave, I like the front upper fairing design of these, which has matured well. I like your ZX636 the most though. A bit of wear and tear on the bike I also like, like a well used Jet Fighter.
Hopefully the fresh paint will match the bits you didn't send away. Red can be finicky.

@@obsession_engineering Then the swingarm is going back to alloy?😉
A piece of advice, have a stud remover handy to remove the key/steering lock. This will help when it comes time to remove and install the airbox. You will appreciate once you find this out, trust me, there is no space to both rotate and slip the airbox in the same motion. V Best of luck, I'm almost done with my 999, and 749s tack bike is next

@@obsession_engineering agreed, along with the alternative fuel cap, other than that they are one of the last great analogue bikes, simple enough with the best chassis of that generation, with adjustable footrest mounts, pedals, and steering angle. Enjoy and I'll be doing the same watching your progress🍿📽😛
11,200 miles? that rad looked suspiciously higher in mileage?. Not sure if the dash/ECU has been reset as they are prone to wiping off the mileage if its not kept charged. Bloody good bike though and seriously undervalued in my opinion.

Mileage is backed up by lots of documents. It's definitely seen some weather though!
Now only if you knew someone that could have made some nice carbon exhaust heat shield and heel plates🤔🤔🤦♂️
Coincidentally i have also been looking to buy a 748 or 749 and yours is on my watch list and I hadn't noticed the seller. I think the asking is fair considering it comes fully serviced and sorted. Tempting. Is 15 bikes too many? Reminds me of the old question, how many bikes does a man need? Answerr n+1 , where n is the number currently owned. Be right back need to check the sofa for coins ......

Looking at this it looks like it’s done more than 11000 miles, front sprocket in 11k they don’t have enough power for that

There are other reasons the front sprocket could be worn.

The very 1st thing this bike needs is new fuel pump and filter, oil change, new timing belts and new spark plugs

Dave Hewson Road Racing Obsession Engineering LTD are you really going to sell it I mean just look at it would u just look at it 🤣🤣 nah joking aside it's a beauty and the 1st 749 I have seen with this fairing was this fairing standard or retro fitted per say ?
No mate! Youre wrong. Ducati never did that. The previous owner most likely bought a used black box swingarm from a 2006 749/999 and swapped his ugly cheap grey swingarm out.

Would have needed to change the bodywork too. And my local Ducati specialist seemed to agree it wasn't unusual
