What did I buy? Did it break the bank? Am I still married???
Actually I got a darn good deal on a metal mill and metal lathe for my shop from Grizzly, and my wife was ok with it! I've been wanting these tools for a long time, and I decided to buy from Grizzly for a number of reasons discussed in the video. Enjoy! And thank you all for supporting me and this channel!

"Who cares about cars?" Best statement I have heard on youtube today.
I just paid $6495 for the lathe plus $400 freight plus tax. The prices are up you did very well.
I bought a $100 sander and $25 worth of 3M Cubitron II and the wife thinks I'm having a midlife crisis.
You got me with the car. Funny. The lathe is cool but I haven't seen a mill in action, looking forward to the videos.
If I could turn back time... Prices today for those machines are significantly higher, with the mill at $4,895 and the lathe at $5,995
Hello John, just when I think that I have watched all your videos then I find this one I have missed. I feel jealous now and so wish I had both them machine's. Guess I need a midlife crisis too
I want to have the same mid life crisis after I buy my land and get my shop built. I will call mine a late-mid life crisis as i am 60. Lol Great price by the way.
Good for you!
"Who cares about cars?" I love it! XD

These machines must have paid for themselves at least 10 times over by now.
Very nice purchase! If I were your age again I would do the same thing. Looking forward to the videos.
Got the same problem with finding a lathe and will probably go with Grizzly looking at the same lathe you purchased. They have a free shipping deal on now I think.
Love it 😊 enjoy 😊
I think you made a great choice in "Mid-Life Crisis". Did you read my list? A mill/lathe combo you can build almost anything. Only thing else you would need is a surface grinder to make anything, to include tooling and fixtures. You will also need a surface plate. The good thing is a used one can be fixed rather easily. I think my "Mid-Life Crisis" is going to be a Kubota tractor loader backhoe. Then a mill and lathe... :-)

you still need a keyseater and a vertical slotting machine to cut internal shapes lol
Nice job on review. I have to down size my lathe... 18 1/2" swing.. 26" swing if you take the gap out. 84" centre. 3 1/16 through hole in head stock. Im going to look into a grizzly lathe. I like features that come with the lathe. Just na used one if possible.
Wish I had a playlist
Love the Johnson videos. Do it all the way.
Good choices. Probably do what you need to do. Save you going out to sub-contract and instant delivery. Good luck.
Its not the lathe and mill that's expensive, it all the tooling.
Very noice!
Have you ever covered your previous career and how you picked up all your interests and skills?
Rebuilt, or find used tool room machines a tool room machine wasn't used for production work chances are its in really good shape with only cosmetic dammages. Otherwise its perfect And accurate. You need to find auctions.
Nice purchase! Now you have to spend some real money, on tooling! All in good time....

That's the true rabbit hole. The machines are just the start of the addiction.
Just curiosity did you look in BOLTON or Precision Matthews? please let me know how are the tools doing, thank you and have a nice day.
And all I really want is a mini lathe for my shop! lol I can't even afford that on my pension. They're a little over $1100 Canadian.
We must be related somehow. lol
Just over $2500?! The current price of this mill (2023) is $4895. Wow.
Man i think i am getting those ill wait 10 years before i hit my mid life crisis
6 years later. Do you still like your milling machine? Had any problems? Thanks enjoining your videos .

I do. Not any problems really. Sometimes I wish it was heavier and more powerful to make deeper cuts. But that’s par for the course. It does the job, and I can machine to the thousandth with it.
Why hasn't he used these in any other videos? I haven't even spotted them in any videos? Were they of bad quality? Did he sell them?

He uses them all the time especially the lathe.
Being out in the country, how did you handle getting the machines off the truck and into the shop?

I think he mentioned it in another video that he unloaded it from the trailer it came with and he just put in in the shop.
How do your grind your flour to bake you bread with that _mill?_ 🤔🤭
I am thinking of getting the same machines. I see you have had them for awhile now do you have any regrets with them or would you do it differently if it you did it again. Would greatly appreciate your opinion. Thanks

No regrets. I added a DRO to the mill, and did a couple simple modifications to the lathe, but minor stuff only (chuck key holder, floor mounting brackets, knurled collar locks). The tools work great. Now I can't cut like Abom79 does on his huge equipment, taking .200 per pass. But with these machines if you take your time, you can get it done. Thanks for watching!

FarmCraft101 thanks for replying it's a pretty big investment for me just trying to make sure they are decent tools for the money. This will be my retirement hobbie but I thought why wait.
Money much better spent than on a convertible.
Dude, tools and machinery aren't "Mid-Life Crisis" purchases. They are tools to improve the productivity of your LABOR. Meaning, you will be working more, not less. If you were to buy a boat or a car or helicopter, those things take you away from work. (Because you come to the realization that nothing really matters, and you should have been having fun all along instead of working for the man for some scraps of bread) So go back in there and tell your wife what I said. These tools will make you a better, more productive MAN. (Plus it will keep you out of her hair even longer) The Gunsmith version of the lathe is much higher quality and tolerances than their other ones, plus the larger spindle bore is awesome too!
is it three phase?
@d11rdozer
Жыл бұрын
Both are 2 HP, 220V, single-phase. 8.6A for the mill, 8.5A for the lathe.
Just get to the points 👉 😮
Definitely a mill , not a fe-mill.
LOL mid life crisis ? no you just got smart because NOW you can really make stuff to fix your equipment !!!!
Worst Grizzly commercial ever......
This is now $5000
