FarmCraft101

Interesting videos. That's my goal. Living on a farm, I have become a jack of all trades, so many will be building, restoring, homesteading, and farming type videos, but I'm not limiting myself in this silly description. I'll post any darn video that I feel like! Of course, I feel like posting interesting ones, so I hope you find them interesting as well! Enjoy!

Nothing cleans dirty chains like gasoline and maybe a brush. Especially chainsaw and motorcycle chains. Takes all the sap off bar and chains and also corcular/table saw blades. Any solvent really. But evaporust works great just pricey 4 me lol

Another awesome video. Natural cheap technique below: Gley (Glei Ukrainian) seal up a pond with animal excrement. "The Russian/Ukrainian -devised version for dams uses a slurry of animal waste (pig manure) [Duck] applied over the inner base and walls of the dam in multiple, thin layers, which is then itself covered with vegetable organic matter such as grass, leaves, waste paper, cardboard, etc. This is all then given a final layer of soil which is tamped down and the mixture is left for several weeks to allow the (anaerobic) bacteria to complete their task, at which time the dam is ready for flooding." Gley with grass clippings or hay or straw creates a mud with base aggregate like osb Muscovy ducks are omnivores that live in forests and nest in trees. Muscovy ducks can breed up to three times a year, laying up to 28 eggs per clutch. Females lay about one egg per day, and usually leave the eggs unattended until they have finished laying. Muscovy duck eggs take longer to hatch than other duck eggs. Ancona ducks are hardy, adaptable, all-purpose ducks that are excellent foragers and among some of the most climate-hardy birds. They are also known for being calm and have an average lifespan of roughly 10 years. However, they are poor fliers and don't tend to get broody, so the best way to grow a flock is to use an incubator. Ancona ducks are a medium-weight, domestic duck breed with a unique, broken-colored plumage pattern. Their egg color ranges from greenish/blue to white, and they typically lay 210-280 eggs annually Use of Pigs then Ducks is common. Pond Creation Gley On the Cheap Process 1) Find low lying area or wear you want pond 2) Save / relocate any unique plants (Try to save some they are already adapted epigenetics) -Do you need to dig? Does it hold water decently already and is the predicted landscape depth sufficient? -If it doesn’t hold water well, dig as much as you can with farm tractor or shovel -Consider asking a neighboring farmer or hiring dig and/or closing off low area. -If it mostly holds water, get the Ducks. 3) Add Pigs to compact soil down, now that your depth is defined. -1000+ year old technique. -Can take as much as 1-3 years. -Usually this will go deeper at this point. -Gleying is low to moderate. -Add grass clippings, leaves, bamboo, hay, or straw. Creates a mud with base aggregate like osb / cob -Feed in the pond area to increase small particles 4) Happy with compaction? You should have some standing water after rain events. 5) Remove Pigs 6) Add any pipes you want (optional) and re-tamp soil -After pigs or suffer pipe loss to pigs -Water aeration may be wise later if needed = Air Pipe -Pond Drain Pipe -Slow Water Overflow Pipe -Power/ Data (unlikely) -Possible to re-add pigs for short time if you cover pipes or sleeve pipe in another pipe 8) Create a spillway (optional) -not always needed but recommended 9) Add Ducks after rain / water event. Heavy Gleying -Wait till it holds water then go 6 more months 10) Remove ducks. 11) Add water cleaning plants that aren’t root aggressive

Who did the BTU calculations for you? Mr Cool refuse to tell me what to buy, send me to a dealer who want to charge for a unnecessary visit and engineering.(since they won't do the install) All I want is a confirmation that my calculations are correct and I am buying the right stuff. (I am not a KZreadr don't get the stuff for free) so I have all but given up on Mr not so Cool. I should mention that my situation although not complicated, doesn't fit the web site cookie cutter formula. They cool a room (volume) per Sq ft (surface)??

Hey jon i know its been a while since u posted this ans I was gonna comment it as soon as i saw you do it but then i thought "well lets see im sure he'll figure it out" and sure enough.. idk if anyone else mentioned this but putting thread tape on temp sending units can cause you not to get a ground(if it was in a metal housing like it normally is on most) , most have a o ring but i normally do tape em, just a few threads and leave most of the threads bare for ground Edit: theyre also very easy to test w a multimeter to see if theyre functioning

Hold a plumb bob in front of you and look up and down the string to gauge the lean. Do this from several directions. The tree hugger technique is unreliable, especially on slopes. Be sure to estimate limb weight. Many trees favor one side for growth due to crowding or sunlight availability.

Seeing all the running water on your property - have you ever considered doing a small hydroelectric setup to power part (or all) of your farm? I've seen a few micro hydroelectric videos on KZread and it seems all you need is ~20 ft of head to make something worth building.

Jon, There is a wealth of free information on Penn State's Center for Dirt and Gravel Roads website regarding drainage work for situations like yours. Lots of low cost and strait forward solutions to reduce the operation and maintenance of culverts. It's not lost on me that this info is a little late but perhaps it will help for next time. Cheers. BTW Dozer is living his best life on the farm.
