I bought a GoPro Hero 9 in August for improving the quality of the videos on my channel (I started using an old DSLR in a really heavy tripod) and I’m absolutely happy with this little device. It’s discreet, light, more versatile than a phone camera, and the video quality is great. Of course, is not perfect. There’s a blue glow when light hits directly on the lens, it can overheat in long shots and some settings are limited when filming at 4K 60fps. But, for the price, is probably the best camera I’ve ever had. By the way, nice video. I like when someone doesn’t go with the “you only need the newest, more expensive equipment” approach.

I have the go pro hero 9 and have been using it for 3 years straight while cycling. I was hoping the Hero 12 would provide longer battery life and improved touch screen responsiveness but not at all. The deal breaker was the removal of the GPS feature which I use in post for telepathy data so I'm still on the hero 9 black

Ive done a bunch of testing on the 9 vs the 11 in the past week and in regards to image quality there really isnt much (if any) difference between the 9 and 11. So my quess would be that the 12 wouldnt be any kind of quality increase either.

Have you had to recycle any old batteries yet?

I bought that same camera back in November on eBay. It was marked defective, for parts or repair only. The price after some haggling was $ 80.99 US. The only problem with it was a dormant, generic battery. After paying for shipping and customs it came to about 132 Canadian. Then I bought a little charger and two enduro batteries from Amazon (Black Friday Special $ 71 CDN). So I'm just over $ 200 for a decent action cam. But you didn't have to take that chance and got the same camera, brand new! Good deal!

Yup, you hit it on the dot, not everyone uses their camera the same way. Like a lot of camera enthusiasts we tend to have more than one camera and they all have their strengths. The Ace Pro for me was all about low light shooting and it's the best in its class, period. As well as the very smooth and easy to use interface. People need to stop telling others that this or that camera is "garbage" because it doesn't have the feature THEY use. Ah, then again, it is social media lol Good review.

definitely true. you gotta be able to do your own research and find out which camera will work best for you.

The gopro 9 looked indeed wider then your insta but the fisheye effect curving looked also way more to me or am i wrong? I have to say i appreciate you allways keep a view on those with a smaller budget and understand your view on dont pay for wat you dont need. Thnx for great channel.

appreciated. and yes you do get a bit more of the fisheye. Im pretty sure you will always get that when you have that much width. And im pretty sure i may be able to correct some of that in post. We shall see.

I use DJi action3 for riding the bike , I am very happy with it ... I might go to a Action4 ( not sure yet) since the action 3 is half price ........I dont post yet and not sure if I will do this Alain & Yellow

Great video! I actually got an open box GP9 on a black Friday sale for $130 US (with coupon), and spent a bunch of time reading about all the functions, getting it set up etc. it's really a decent camera for that price

its a great camera. i actually returned mine and got an GoPro 11. But only because i wanted the Hyperview. Other than that the 9 would have done everything that i wanted it today. Hope you have fun with your new camera!

Interesting. I have a One RS and the 4K Boost mod produces really good daylight footage. When I was thinking about an upgrade, I looked at the options and a friend was selling on his 1-inch Leica mod, in mint condition, and he offered to sell it to me for a really cheap price (US$60!), So I went with that. I don't usually shoot in lowlight and, if I do, the 1-inch mod is pretty good in lowlight. It shoots in 5.3K, which downscales to produce better quality 4K than the native 4K output, and the 1-inch sensor produces some good stills. The 1-inch also has a slightly wider FOV than the 4K Boost mod. Although the 4K Boost mod has an option to record 6K24FPS in an ultrawide 'anamorphic' mode, but I haven't ever tried it so I can't comment on how wide it is. Had i decided to buy new, I would have gone with the Action 4, I think. The video samples I have seen look better than the Ace Pro.

if i had the cash i would have went with the action 4 as well. but here its about $400 more than the Hero 9. And just so you know. the ultrawide anamorphic mode on the RS isnt even as wide as the standard 4K on the boost lens. Lots of resolution but you lose the width.

@@gregtoope Well, the 1-inch is a 14mm equivalent and the 4K Boost is 16mm, so that seems a bit odd!

Great price! They still have the V.1 Hero 9 on the site. Same price. Do you know what the difference is V.1 to V.2? I can't find anything online. Edit: gone as of 1630 eastern 23-12-17.

just so you know. the only difference was some of the parts and who made them. so no difference is quality.

There actually has been a couple of brief reviews of the Ace, for the price dif between the Ace and Ace Pro there's a significant different, doubt they will sell much of the ACE tbh.

@@gregtoope Sensor size alone is worth the difference of price. Ace has smaller aperture, no 8K just 6K, it's not a lot but the sensor size is the big one.

@@MiyagisRant how does that actually make a difference? Especially if you dont shoot at night or in low light. I actually tested the Ace Pro up against the One RS in normal day light and you could barely see any difference. So my point is that its a feature that probably most of us would never use or even care about. Im getting some 8K footage sent to my from the Ace Pro and im gonna put it up against the RS Boost (in 6K) and the GoPro in 5.3K. I doubt that anyone will really be able to see the difference. At least not enough for anyone to actually care.

@@gregtoope Yah, day time there really isn't much difference between all the action cameras, very subtle differences. That said, this camera was pushed for their low light capabilities. Don't forget, when DJI A4 came out with the bigger sensor, everyone was like oouuu...ahhhh and why it sold very well. I use to sell cameras, do you know which two biggest requests was for action cameras for years? Don't believe me, go search on GoPro and DJI forums, it was better low light shooting and better zoom, you now have a camera which gives you both hands down better then competitor. This was not just design for "night" shooting, it's low light and to say nobody would ever use an action camera for low light shooting would be pretty naive. I for one shoot a lot in low light conditions. DJI is the only strong competitor to the Ace in low light, GoPro can't even touch any of these two. GoPros are great in daylight but once that light starts to decline, GoPro pretty much chokes. Yah, if you only shoot in daylight then save yourself $500, stay with your existing camera. I also have the One RS with the twin lens, the 4k boost lens is not better then the Ace Pro in HDR, sorry, I've done that comparison.

kind of 2 very different cameras. So doubtful that you will get even close to the same level of image quality. One is use for actual filming of big budget theatrical movies. And one is for action sports.
