So where are we now in that we have a card already authenticated by upper deck yet we need to get 3rd party verification on a card that was already verified? Is there not a limit to all this madness? We are getting to the point that we need a verifier to verify what has already been verified. If no company can actually be trusted then what's the point of any of this? Please clarify the verify. :)

exactly its why getting it graded is a scam tbh you need a accredited person /business and even then no one will ever be 100% but jfc the grading companies we have now are abysmal

It’s a mess. It’s why I’m sending it to JSA tbh. They have the best database and seem to be the most respected. The CGC partnership is a bonus cause it can then get slabbed and save me some money (for comics it’s cheaper atm to go through JSA/CGC then just JSA)

@@DanTheCardMan2 one of the youtubers Sports Card Madness would agree with you about JSA's database. SCM just released an episode talking about PSA vs. JSA. They've had Nat Turner on in the past and they've told him their displeasure about autographs they have sent in that were rejected by PSA, although they've taken photos and even vids at the events they were at where players signed them as proof. You gotta check out their story in this recent episode cause its crazy how PSA is charging so much for this stuff. I guess this is what happens when Steve Grad left PSA for Beckett several years ago. PSA's service in autograph authentication took a turn for the worst. Glad to see that JSA is still around.

I'm back to the hobby after so many years and i'm surprised by the importance grading has now, PSA, PGS, CGC, SGS and all the others. And i always have this doubt about the grading autheticity. How can you be 100% sure about a card when now you have fake louis vuiton, fake rolex with complicated mechanism and manufactured that even specialists have a hard time to recognize. How can you be 100% sure of the authenticity of a simple card made of cardboard and plastic ??? When you think about it it's the easiest think to reproduce and fake for scammers

Corporation policy gaps exist to allow wiggle room to always side with corporate, never the consumer.

I hate seeing a fellow collector get hurt like that. We gotta still stick together and look out for one another.

I think all autos are fake, authorized licensed autograph by proxy. I had hand writing as punishment and remember writing 10k word essays where half way through the page you make a mistake and have to start over because we had to do it by hand. A 10k essay turns into 40k words. It hurts. You can't do it all at once, and that's the point of giving a 10k word essay. Lol Now think of all the autos in USA products and add in China lmao. An auto is only real when done in person. They aren't risking injuries from handwriting an athlete needs wrists

I got that same exact Ian Holm auto @8:12 in raw condition from the Alien Anthology series that year. In that same set, I also have other autos of Bill Paxton/Mark Rolston (dual auto), Lance Hendrickson, Tom Skerrit, and the big one with Sigourney Weaver/Carrie Henn (dual auto). Gonna have to look through Blowout Forums later on once I get home tonight.

This absolutely sucks for you mate. But as you mentioned he was quite old when he passed and people's signatures can change...but there are alot of people who think its fake...im sure you ll keep us posted...those fishing cards are awesome 👌 from 1938 in great condition 👏

@Dan The Card Man ...just found a couple autos on ebay with Ian Holm in The Hobbit Battle of the Five Armies card set put out by Cryptozoic. They've done The Walking Dead sets on the past before Topps took over the franchise. The two Ian Holms autographs appear to be on-card. Same style signature found from Alien Anthology.

I think the HOLM looks pretty legit...what concerns me is the I in IAN...

Newish to your videos, but really love your candor and hate seeing you get done like that. A card shop near me (I'm not getting sued) had an Upper Deck auto and when I asked to see it out of the case, they had clearly written over the original auto that had faded. When I said something to the employee, he was furious about it and called out one of the owners privately. Owner put it right back in the display. It sold. 🤥

I was so amped! I rarely spend like that on a card these days so making all that effort to bite the bullet only to have questions raised sucks!

I have some autographed items I need to get authenticated, was going to send to PSA since JSA damaged my items the last time I used them. I think I'll go with Beckett.

Not to post too much, but sorry about your dual auto. Yeah that’s BS! The collector is supposed to trust UDA did all the work, and that is why you are paying your hard-earned money for their products!! You shouldn’t have to reauthentic their authenticity! That was a great card, would’ve guessed it cost much more given the actors. I’m a huge Skerritt fan! He’s done everything between Steel magnolias and Top Gun! Uda needs to do better!!

I forgot he was in Top Gun! I was actually surprised once I looked at comps too. I actually think the reason it sells for less is because of the questions around the Holm. I’ve not found a comp for this dual though. Only from the 2017 release that I showed in the blowout thread. I think it’s ugly and this one looks better so should sell for more. Thank you for the kind words! It’s a joke that these companies can let stuff like this happen.

I noticed at the end of your friend’s message that the lesson was he should’ve declared a higher value. The lesson should be not to try to complete this type of set. Next time this happens (if it does) psa can give him the 1000 or less. Bottom line, I wish people would understand that 3rd party authentications are OPINIONS!!! Unless you actually saw someone sign it, or get it from a UDA or Steiner-type company, where they directly deal with athletes, there’s a chance the item is fake. And, I will add, signatures on valuable vintage cards would be a red flag for me. Wasn’t the case here, but clearly swindlers know people are trying to complete sets like this, and it’s inexpensive to buy a card, forge the sig, and try to get it slabbed. It clearly worked in this case

People place far too much reliance on grading and psa set registry. Its a shame but there is hard lessons to be learned and I don’t think we’ve seen it all just yet

​@@jbhatts610you mentioned uda.......the autograph he bought was put out by upper deck i.e. uda. The way things are going in the hobby, it's hard to trust an autograph that you dont personally obtain.

People's autos can change. However at that age, they never get better like that. He probably had a relative sign it and Upper Deck just thought it was him.

It’s not been confirmed. Everyone who has commented on it from what I can see hasn’t done complete due diligence. Currently waiting on response from UD and Cryptozoic to see if they have any photos or recordings of him signing these

I dont think its a good outcome for him at all. PSA does this time and time again. How many millions of dollars have they just outright taken from people. Worlds biggest grifters. Literally cant stand them.

Also Dan, I wouldn't be surprised if the same actor signed both your card and the LOTR cards. As these guys get older their signature changes a lot. Look at a Patrick Stewart auto from 2020 Rittenhouse and look at his auto from 2024 Leaf Pop Century. I thought he didn't sign the most recent ones but it sounds like he did but he has major arthritis so he changed up his auto.
