Sometimes Jacob buy things of questionable value, that you can argue is worth it to the right person, but this thing is just straight up not worth the price he paid lol

The interior COULD have been good if they took the time to make sure everything actually sits into place. Fun fact: adhesive exists. There’s no saving the case though. Bad idea from the start.

personally i would go with a whole new custom case at this point but if not i would add more vents, at least one by the power supply to increase cooling.

The reason it has the eject button as the power button is because only the eject button lights up, and because it doesn’t have a disk drive it’s perfectly fine to use that instead

I don't get going through this much effort to mod and build the wooden case and then just not taking the time to secure things properly and make it look better, especially for $600.

You can build noDVD with every Revision motherboard this way. Or you can build them without any DVD PCB as well. It doesn‘t come down to 1.6 to build it like that. The Fan was not ramped up in the Bios. So it Runs all the Time on 20%. With stock Fan no Problem, but a replacement have to be at least 80%. Your settings change in the dashboard only change in the dashboard. InGame it will get back to 20%. Modder perspective from me: nice idea, potential is there, but this build is not more then concept and is very far away from finished 600$ custom quality.

The size of the box isnt really an issue when considering cooling... the issue is that there is zero airflow over the PSU with this design/layout. That looks like your typical round IDE cable from the early to mid 00s with the sleeving removed. They also could have just put a jumper on the DVD power cable to remove the drive entirely. It would have saved space and improved the overall thermal profile. Also, when removing the DVD drive, it would be more space efficient to use a different IDE>SATA adapter.

There's no air coming out because the mesh vent isn't freely passing any fresh air . They shouldn't have used fine mesh , pet mesh would be best if you really have to use it . I would drill some holes in the front and or sides so that it doesn't overheat .

That power supply is dangerous. Left alone could burn your house down

Honestly the worst (and funniest) part of this console is that they used cheap particle board instead of actual lumber. Had they just spent a few dollars more, it would have looked 1000x better.

Reminds me of the chopped Xbox I made except a lot more sketchy. I took out the top shielding, cropped the case, gutted the dvd drive and softmodded it. My hdd is set above the dvd board that has kapton tape all over it.

With how 3d printing is getting better and better, I wonder why people with the skills haven't designed custom cases for consoles or console like cases for PC parts.

The material on the bottom of the interior appeared to be tool box liner. Which is usally made of foam rubber.

Couldn't imagine buying an Xbox made of wood... anyways, when you mentioned Burnout, it reminded me of how much fun I used to have playing Burnout dominator on the Ps2 way back when... So many memories, remember getting a lot of the different cars unlocked and eventually got up to the fire truck. Unfortunately, I lost my PS2 memory card, so don't have all of that saved data anymore. My dad and I used to play Burnout ALL of the time, but I don't have a PS2 anymore but still look back and remember the fun we had. Hopefully one day I'll be able to get a PS2 and play burnout again with my dad. Awesome video by the way. Can't wait to see what other odd consoles you buy.

if i had made an custom xbox with a wooden hull i would have done it very differently, with every corner made out of thick square pieces holding the panels together

I would find a way to install a large fan or 2 smaller ones in the top lid to help disperse the excess heat from the power supply.

You could build this dirt cheap with motherboard standoffs, wood, and HVAC tape. Also needs more room for fans. Whoever built that didn't give af and didn't even join it nicely. For 600 there should be dovetails.

If paid 600 for a wooden xbox i would want it made of high quality wood and carved exactly like the console

This is literally just an OG Xbox's contents (minus the optical drive, while keeping the optical drive's PCB) rearranged into a smaller container. And the sad part is that all those wires are absolutely unnecessary. They could have just simply used a short 80-conductor IDE cable and folded any excess neatly rather than building the terrible rat's nest version of one. And instead of the more reliable Startech IDE adapter, they chose a cheap generic one. This is worth even less than the OG Xbox in my honest opinion; definitely a DIWhy sort of project.

The power cord you got looks like one from a vintage tv/radio set
