I bought a 2021 Toyota 4Runner!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Yes, we bought a new vehicle for the show. In this video you'll get an introduction to why we picked this particular 2021 Toyota 4Runner and why we went for this versus the new Ford Bronco, a Jeep Rubicon or even a Subaru Outback. Plus, we show off a new test location and put the 4Runner through its paces.

I find it smoother and more pleasant to drive than the hukry-jurkiness of our 8 speed transmission toyota. And all that space in the back? Perfect for all your suburban errands. As a person that consistently makes standout reviews testing the AWD/4WD drivetrains and automatic transmission vs CVT systems; I think it speaks volumes that you chose this beautiful Toyota 4Runner with a 4WD automatic transmission. My family really wanted to get a Toyota 4Runner too. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t in the cards, Grandpa and Grandma are getting older, gas mileage and third row seating comfort are king, AWD is only second. The 5 seat 4Runner’s front fascia looks cooler than the 7 seater’s front end personally. Jeep Wranglers and Toyota 4Runners are so fun, without a doubt. AWD Toyota Highlanders and Honda Pilots just fit the bill. Thank you for sharing this video 👍

I belong to a lot of 4Runner groups, and not a lot of people seem to have good things to say about those tires, even though they're standard equipment on the TRD Pro. I recently put a set of General Grabber ATX on my 2013 Trail, and I mostly like them. I went with the stock size, and the P rated load range. The one downside is that I lost a solid 2.5 MPG vs the stock Bridgestone Dueler HTS. I was getting pretty consistently 20.0- 20.5, now I'm sitting right around 17.5. Pretty disappointed in that, I specifically went with the stock size and load range in order to preserve MPG, but even in the stock size these tires to look beefier than the stockers, and they're definitely more aggressive which I guess translates to more rolling resistance. On the plus side, they tend to ride smooth, are quiet, and are good in the rain and and some slushy snow that we recently had. For the most part I really like them, however the loss of range is what irritates me. Not so much concerned about the additional fuel costs, it's just having to fill up 50 miles earlier it's kind of annoying. That's almost a full trip back and forth to work for me. If I were to do it again, I would look into the Toyo AT3, the Cooper AT3 4S, and the Continental Terrain Contact AT. Those are all slightly less aggressive tires that will probably be just as good off road while maybe being a little bit more fuel efficient. That's just a guess, no facts behind that assumption.

I got a set of BF KO2 for LX470 thru Costco, sometimes they run a promo about $150 off for a whole set, basically ‘free’ installation, if you’re installing non OEM size, Costco won’t install those tires, they refund a ‘installation” fee then I went to Firestone and got those tires installed, love the KO2 really soft, not much tire noise at all, I found it’s more comfortable than the previous Michelin street tires, congrats on your 4runner

Great and informative review. I owned a 2017 4Runner and would say that it’s the best SUV made. I don’t know why the reviews are normally so hard on it. It’s not a CUV so it shouldn’t be in that category. It drives great for a truck based suv. CUV are just too car like for me. It can go anywhere and accommodate just about anything. I just bought the TRD off-road myself a couple of weeks ago, I opted for the base TRD off-road because it still has the key start. I'm probably old fashioned but buttons can break and it's a 4 wheel drive we don't need a fancy push start, lol

I never use crawl control. MTS all the way, it's CC except you control the speed. Also only MTS to use is Rock mode. If you aren't on Rock mode then Atrac is what to use if you are scooting along trails and would like traction aid to be on.

I LOVE the black trim around the center screen console compared to the silver metal on all other trims (even the limited). I think the silver trim dates the inside so much. The black trim I wish was available on other 4runner trims. Seems crazy to buy an Off Road for the trim color. I also love the red stitching compared to the white on the premium models.

Congrats on your new Toyota! My first Toyota was a 1991 4Runner SR5 V6 3.0 in Silver. Last I checked it’s still a daily driver in fantastic running condition inside and out at 300,XXX miles. Hopefully yours will serve you well. I’ve been so happy with Toyota reliability that I bought a 2007 Toyota Sequoia a couple years back that had 80K miles on it. It’s not a TRD, but it overlands with the best of them. Maybe call the test area “The Crawl?”

Ryan, I think you applied as much logic to your 4Runner purchase decision as is possible. Since you chose not to buy the expensive TRD skid plate, you may want to bolt on an aftermarket unit ASAP . Thanks for not taking a discount from Toyota or the dealer as this will keep your upcoming observations much more objective. K.I.S.S. > KDSS

Great introduction video. I just got a 2021 TRD Off-road from Toyota of Bellevue. It's got a bunch of bolt on goodies cause I really wanted a TRD Pro. However suspension is still stock aside from a dealer installed leveling kit. Where is that area you tested your 4Runner? Would love to give it a go. Just subscribed ....I really like your reviews and now you're a Toyota brother...congrats on the new rig.

I own a 17 4R TRD Pro. Coming up on 50k miles, and every time I watch a video like this it just cements(no pun intended) the reason to never sell it even though from time to time I get some stupid ideas in my head to trade it in. It surely would be on the top of my list of vehicles that I regretted selling. I have watched quite of few of your videos lately, and they are top notch.
