I have been in that spot. A friend and i decided to try to get into mini stock racing, a poor man’s sport. We bought a running and ready car along with a roller. We replaced all the body panels and painted it, that’s where the “we” ended. I spent all my free time reading the rule book and getting the car ready to race. The first race weekend we go to load the car on the trailer and my buddy decided to do a few donuts instead. He slammed it into a rock and popped a tire and bent the rim and control arm, no race today. I spent the next week fixing the car. Now i load it on the trailer, get to the track and unload it. He went out for hot laps, lost it in a turn and hit the wall head on which of course crumpled the front of the car and broke the other control arm. I gave up on the whole thing and we sold the whole set up and split the money. I never once got to race the car

Picked up a Buick lesabre that was shifting hard, known and common issue. Lots of labor hours getting to the transmission but if you’ve ever done a front suspension, you can handle it. 180k miles, two owner grandma car, picked it up for $1000 cash and drove it home. Did spark plugs ($120), oil change ($50), transmission solenoids ($130), and cleaned it up. Interior still mint condition almost (that’s important). Learn a skill, don’t just expect to get money by scamming people. $1000 is what the Buick WAS worth, I added value via my knowledge of mechanics and my 20 or so labor hours ($800) Also, I took a financial risk buying an old, possibly unreliable car. Luckily it’s reliable and I’d feel good selling it to anyone, but I think I’ll keep it. 30mpg on the highway! Could sell it for $3000 any day of the week tho.

Best damn advice you could possibly give someone. I'm pretty damn broke but if I want something nice then I'm damn well gonna get something nice. Needed a PC but couldn't afford one that was fast enough to do what I need cause it was gonna be like ~$800. Searched on ebay for a few weeks and found a 2015 Dell PowerEdge R620 server (basically it's a big ass computer used by companies for networking and storage) for $150. Slapped a low profile Quadro P620 in it and it can do everything I need it to do and more. The thing's SUPER overkill and has DUAL E5-2690v2's with 20 cores and 40 threads total. Pretty much all computers have 1 CPU and often times 4 cores. I have 2 CPUs and 20 cores for $150. Things a beast and I can't even use more than 15% of it's total power lmfao. Problem was a server rack (basically the case for it) is like minimum $100. So I went on craigslist and found a bunch of free wood and built a damn server rack for free by hand. It works damn good and even though I have a job now and could afford to get a real metal one I just haven't cause it works perfectly fine. I've done this with so many things in life. From cars to computers to expensive clothes (bought $80 shirts on eBay for $20 lol) and gadgets. If I can't afford something I either make/do it myself or I figure out a way to buy it WAY cheaper than it's supposed to be. I wouldn't have even half the shit I have if it wasn't for broke ingenuity

It has to contain some amount liquor to be a chargeable offense, in my state, though an empty bottle is reason to search a vehicle or give a breathalyzer.

I bought a 86 Yamaha xs1000 special or 25$ a couple years ago. Guy was learning on it and layed it over in his driveway. Knocked a mirror off and broke some stuff on the handle bar. Long story short his wife made him get rid of it. 25$ came with a key and title and only 2500 miles. I rebuilt the handle bars, replaced the rubber intake manifolds and sold it for 3500. Still one of my best flips to this day

I bought an old four wheeler that I happen to have parts for for like $400, took it home, put all the best parts on it and then made the mistake of selling it to my brother-in-law for $700 because it was old and I didn’t expect that it would fetch much. Apparently it was a nicer condition than I realized because he immediately turned around and sold it for $1100 and then the guy that bought it from him turned around a week later and sold it for $1650. And that’s how I learned to think about the value of what you have thoroughly before you sell it 💀

I did the same thing with my first motorcycle. It was a 2005 Suzuki Intruder Volusia Cali Edition. I got it for $500 from my buddy, we worked in the plants together. It was his brothers bike that passed away and it had sat up for 5 years. I completely rebuilt it from the ground up (myself btw) not knowing a thing about motorcycles and I completed it in about 3 weeks. I rode it for a while. Almost killed myself on it and ended up selling it. After I completed it I realized I have a talent for raising old bikes from the grave. I suggest for anyone whow never tried doiing this before to try it out. Its a beautiful thing to see a dead old beat up motorcycle come back to life with your own hands and gives you the best feeling in the world. ✌️
