Exactly this. More often than not I am unimpressed and disinterested with many niche fragrances (they just aren’t for me). My only true WOW reaction came from PDM Herod. I was blown away after trying that on skin. Bought a bottle the next day

I felt the exact same way about naxos but all of a sudden i couldnt stop smelling it. So good.

I've had my bottle of Naxos for months and the smell is the same every time to my nose. Not bad, not unpleasant... not my signature scent though, and tbh I have a hard time figuring out when I'd want to smell like it.

Bro I had the same reaction to naxos at first I was not like omg 😮but after that dry down and after smelling it in the air a few hours later, it was heavenly..my skin pops the honey and citruses like no other..I wear it all year round ..Just perfect for me!

Hi, I just subscribed as I appreciate your honest opinions. To many reviewers over hype these particular fragrances. Like you I find to many of these style fragrances lean too feminine for my tastes. Interesting to see although they are good they don’t always blow quality designers away. What’s the point in buying a fragrance that is too situational. I’ve learned my lesson the expensive way. If something blows you away moving forward I will be keen to sample. Good work my man.

I can agree with NEVER blind buying. Although I was blown away by ani and Naxos. I do discovery sets and samples always first. I have so many discovery sets from niche brands and usually there’s only like 2 or 3 out of 10 that actually blow me away. Mancera is about the only brand that I like everything they put out just about

my experience with Arabians Tonka has been great. 3rd best fragrance in general imo. I really pick up on that rose and the sugar cane with slight hints of oud. and the performance and projection is stupidly good. 10/10 for me

I would love an in-depth review on Layton Exclusif. Right now, I find myself at the crossroads of the original one, and Exclusif, but I think I will buy the former for its added versatility and openness to higher temperatures (I think summer nights are perfect for Layton).

Straight forward and honest now I find most luxury/ niche are to similar to designer scents for the asking price but the scent quality should impress you the fact that it didn’t speaks to the hype of free bottles to influencers or your personality 😉

I have many designers and only two come close to niche quality,

I love Xerjoff. Naxos and Zefiro are quite good. Alexandria II is also good if you like Oud. Torino 21 and 40 Knots are good fresh scents. Then there is Torino 22. The other nice you should try are Roja Elysium, Percival from Pafrum de marly, Risala from Arabian Oud, Initio Oud for Greatness and Habibi NY Desert Oud.

Hey Chad, great video once again. Sending thoughts and prayers to your bank account. Have you had a chance to try Agneta by Eight and Bob? A great, coffee incense-y woody fragrance. Pretty dense, but super elegant. I think it would your jam (grab a sample, the thing retails new for $400 CAD for 50ml). Also agree with your Naxos take. It's always underwhelmed me

Understandable about all of that, I really enjoy Erba Pura. I tested it thanks to a kit my amigo gifted me so that was great. I have blind bought mancera since they are cheaper and the one that didn’t work for me worked super well for my sister! I will say the price of niche fragrances do leave a painful burn to the wallet ☠️

Oh, they absolutely do, and the majority of times, they are not worth the insane price tag. That's why i keep it honest here!

The only niche brand I blind buy is Mancera. They tend to be very affordable at discounters (I bought Black Line for around 40$. That's practicaly clone fragrance money). And with most of them you either know what you are getting into (Red Tobacco) or they have some designer sensibilities but with better quality or unique twist (Cedrat Boise, Aoud Lemon Mint). I also had some great surprise successes. Black Gold I picked just for an ongoing sale and the bottle design, but it totaly blew me away and it's currently a favourite of my collection.

Mancera is a very safe niche company for sure. I have never been disappointed by them. Some i like more than others but havent come across one yet that i can not appreciate for the quality and price

Layering those Xerjoff fragrances will lead to a nice surprise. :)

Hi Chad! Was looking for a review on Arabians Tonka on the newer batches(performance and scent wise) . Would your bottle happen to be that of a newer batch?(2022 onwards I think). And after testing, would you recommend instant crush over it? Also, I think Montale bottles are made of aluminum, so dw if you accidentally drop them👍.

Mine is a new batch 2023, i believe. Im not a big fan of the br540 dna i guess, but I'll have to test them both out in depth to see. Right now, instant crush i prefer slightly, but that could change!

Pegasus is definitely neiche. It’s clean, creamy, nutty vanilla. I blind bought a 125ml bottle a while ago and at first I was genuinely repulsed (I think it was the heliotrope opening combined with the jasmine). Now, however, it has grown on me to a point where I am not sure it is financially sustainable to keep rebuying more bottles of this amazing fragrance for my signature scent. 😂

Hey, cool video! Excellent quality. I have a question though, why didn’t you go to a store and test them before buying, especially if you’re going to spend that much? Here in Montreal, there are lots of niche stores, so before buying a niche perfume, I usually decant it to see if I really like it.

If you haven’t already Xerjoff Accento is a great one to try, and the Accento overdose is just 😮‍💨👏🏼 I wasn’t a fan of Erba Pura or Naxos regifted them to friends in exchange for Tom Ford Noir extreme which I adore, and Creed Himalaya 🔥

Yup i sampled all Parfums De Marly and i only was blown away by Carslisle and Pegasus Exclusif. The price tag though not justifiable lol. Greenley and Sedley are great but for the price there’s better ones in that field. And my fav is Althair just pure gourmet vanilla. I actually enjoy Naxos. The opening can be harsh but the honey/tobacco dry down is lovely! It’s done right. I had le male elixir but it was too much and too cloying that it made me nauseous! I also recently purchased my 3rd niche. Roja Parfums Elysium Cologe and man o man, probably the best blue fragrance i have ever smelled. It beats Bleu De Chanel EDP/parfum in everywa

Great video! I suggest you try some niche fragrances by the house of Arabian Oud. By far my favourite brand with very nice packaging and top notch performance, they will not disappoint. Based on what they have in stock at fragrancebuy i would definitely recommend: Resala(nuclear beast mode beautiful oud rose chocolate saffron combo unisex guaranteed to draw attention & compliments masterpiece) Kalemat ( amazing and intoxicating sweet amber fragrance with musk great performance better than naxos) Arabian knight silver ( a beast mode middle eastern blue frangrance) Arabian knight ( a middle eastern take on layton but nothing alike this is sweeter spicier vanilla boozy cinamon overall better guaranteed compliments ) Diwan ( fresh hight quality office spring scent a true class in a bottle top performance & longevity)

Him thinking the montale bottles are made of glass and trying to shine light through It cracked me up. Their bottles are aluminum and are never filled to the top but you do get the amount you pay for.

So I was dying for years to get a Arabian Tonka. But it was always like $40 more than any other Montale so I would wait. I finally bought it two months ago and I have to be honest. Chad’s assessment was very close to my assessment. It smells like a clone or a version of baccarat rouge. What’s funny is I had heard Montal had its own instant crush/baccarat rouge and it was SENSUAL INSTINCT

Hey man. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on more PDM frags as you sample them. Just got my hands on 5ml samples of Herod and Oajan. Both really good but not sure they are full bottle worthy for the price (Herod especially smelled amazing but performance was not great). Going to hit Carlisle, Layton, Percival and Sedley next. My goal this year is to buy less bottles (go for higher quality niche stuff instead) as I've ended up with too many designers and having to sell them which can be tricky with dangerous goods courier rules. Do you sell any of yours or just add them to the collection?

​​@@sepsism138percivel is super underated because its a sintetic fragrance that you go noseblind easy if you spray close to your nose but the performance is beastly 12-14h skin, days+ on clothes and compliment factor high, my love from the pdm line out of (percival,carlisle,herod,haltane,layton,layton exclusif,althair,greenly,pegasus)

@@Katalin04 Thanks for the comment. I think Percival is getting quite a bit of recognition now, it's definitely at the top of my priority sample list. Absolutely loved Herod, it's stunning (and I usually dislike sweeter fragrances) but yeah just the question mark around performance (was it reformulated a few years ago?). I'd say I was getting 4-5 hours out of it before it became a skin scent.

It 100% has grown on me.

I got Naxos. I get an amazing honey, lavender, tobacco, and cashmere. But Naxos to me is a must. It’s used for those special occasions where you feeling good and dressed up.

@@ChadSecretsnow that I can agree with. I sprayed mines a few times and have been letting it sit. I noticed when I first got it. The juice wasn’t dark. But it’s starting to darken up now. I notice a lot of other reviewers Naxos juice was in fact dark when they said performance was good. Except for Aaron Terrence Hughes who I believe he said get good performance with the juice being bright.

Yea it will definitely progress differently on skin. I think its important when testing to try both

new Naxos is definitely gimped, pre 2022 Naxos has lot more tobacco making masculine leaning. My wife thinks it smells like ashtray. I bought the 2023 version but my sister had 2021, she didn't like the tobacco so she sent it to me recently and it's more bolder and not watered down. Even after shower it was wafting off my arm.

That seems to be a common trend, the more a fragrance is hyped, the more horrid it smells once I get my own nose on it.

Very strong, and yes its a newer batch. Not too sure on longevity yet. I'll be testing it soon

@@ChadSecrets i got a few samples of niche fragrances and im trying to figure out what to get for my firstt niche, i want to spend around the $200 mark, none of the samples including naxos, blew my mind for to want to get a full bottle, do you have any recommendations for colgones around the price point? Im not huge on super sweet like gourmand but besides that it can be anything

I honestly love blind buying fragrances at a price where, even if you don't vibe with it, you can still sell it at cost or even a small profit. 😂 That's how I've ended up with 4 bottles of Argos. Besides Xerjoff, I think I love their unboxing experience the most. Funnily enough I did sample Naxos, given that every reviewer seems to love it, but it was a strong meh for me. The lavender was just too intense.

Naxos not smelling masculine to you makes me wonder what you'd consider a staple masculine fragrance. To me, Naxos smells like a king's humidor room or something. I've worn it to work several times, and have gotten multiple compliments with it. I just wear it because I adore the fragrance, but compliments are neat too.

Could be a batch problem. Im allowing it to age a bit because mine currently is sweet florals. Which is the make up of most feminine fragrances! Could also be just my nose but ill give it another chance

@@ChadSecrets Fair enough! Mine's a decant, so I'm not sure what batch it's from. I don't pick up on any florals in mine, though. I also huffed entirely too much brake clean at my last job, though, so maybe my nose is fried lol. I hope you dig it more on round two!

@@ChadSecrets I had low expectations but the opening is nice and the dry down is incredible honestly. I prefer this over Layton tbh. Layton is too hyped as well and I don’t see the hype within Layton.

Idk how everyone hypes Layton and Pegasus over Herod. I smelled Herod at Bloomingdales and immediately went home and bought it. 10/10 fragrance.

With all montale fragrances you have to let them dry down. They rarely smell good from the spray

You guys have better prices in Canada, here in Germany 50 ml Ani is 205 Euros what is approximately 308 Canadian dollars for now if I’m not mistaken. I personally have Arabians Tonka and I find it the best from the Montale house and price is okay as well.

I picked up some samples from montale, Arabians tonka. Boy it just smells like br540 with something else, I don’t get the tonka or oud. I sprayed one spray on my forearm, just one and it’s really in my face. It’s very strong, I think the dry down is better, it’s more subtle but still the br540 dna is in play. I might pick up a bottle but then again there’s clones out there for like 30$. For me I’m going to take a miss on a big bottle 😅

I have Naxos, Ani, Erba Pura and a decant of Pegasus. Naxos is my favorite and I hate Pegasus. The scents last so long that even after 10 hours on campus I still get compliments.
