    They lot truth in what joy said why because Bought up at young age just eat like that. Bought up not to waste food. it spins people out when I say I have good old English Breakfasts with extra things like pigs kidneys or sometimes fish cake on the plate.     I am pretty sure surströmming is the most stinkiest fish, if not the stinkiest food ever even. I am swedish but have never tried it but people literally gag from the smell. And almost everyone opens it wrong lmao, swedes know you open it under water

    Imo surstromming, hakarl, kusaya, and some more intense lutefisk are on the same level. They’re all pretty good, but very much an acquired taste.

    in Germany sausage with mold (healthy, edible mold!!!) is a common thing. It's usually hung up for a few months until a thin layer of white mold forms. It tastes alright but not my fav thing in the world.

    I have to agree with J man here. Naturally we all have our preferred tastes in food and that’s alright. But if you know your not allergic to something and you never tried it, then just try it. You’ll be surprised how many very good dishes you’ll discover with just trying different things.

    i have a sensory disorder so food is.. annoying. doesn't stop me trying things though, even if half the time it tastes like nothing or horrible. there's always the chance i might find something new to put on the "i can actually enjoy this food" list. anything really sour or salty is usually a win though so i am curious if i would like this haha.

    Sadly (or actually gladly) the 1000 year old egg isn’t actually as old as a millennium or even a century. Or even a decade, and most likely not a year either. They’re preserved for weeks to months only, inside mixtures of earth.

    I'm a picky eater but not by choice. I just have a messed up stomach. I feel really bad for people that are trying to eat out with me or the waiter even. Asian food is weirdly the majority of what I can eat.

    If you have a messed up stomach then you are not a picky eater. You are forced to pick what you eat due to your stomach problems. Being a picky eater is irrational. You just don't want to destroy your stomach XD. Also, its good that you can eat mostly Asian food cos its generally healthier than western food. Especially Japanese food.

    I also have a messed up stomach and I'm allergic to capsaicin, so I can't have spicy foods. It's tough, but you can only do what's best for you. If it's going to make you sick then you can't eat it.

    I mean, there's a food called petai, it's a vegetable that actually has a pretty bad smell ( for some people ), and it can make you gassy. It's not too bad, tastes like a regular vegetable, it's great.

    I wish I could eat different things but my brain is wired weirdly and causes me to have anxiety attacks when eating some things. I'm very sensitive to taste, texture and temperature of foods and drinks. Sadly I can't afford the cost of treatment and have been struggling with eating disorders for most of my life. (People get angry with me because they think I'm a picky eater but I'm legit trying my best.)

    I don’t see anything weird in this dish, as someone from central/eastern Europe. We do a lot of fermented sides and ingredients, like soured cabbage or ground cucumbers.

    We have soured cabbages in stock (in Austria) I always want to buy them but I'm afraid that it tastes horrible and I have to trash good food.

    @@akitosuzume2749 I really like it but I can see how someone wouldn’t or would be afraid to try. You could try to make a dish with it that uses it as an ingredient but doesn’t make it an overpowering taste? I personally like a type of savory pancakes that use soured cabbage (it’s really just a pancake with salt and garlic and chopped cabbage in it) and is served with garlic&yoghurt sauce. It’s called “fuczki” in Polish.

    The whole bit about not being friends with a picky eater: What if that person has ARFID (Avoidant-Restrictive Food Intake Disorder), Neophobia, or a sensitivity to certain textures? Would you guys still be willing to be friends with them?

    I agree with you. I have food sensory issues due to other issues. Picky eaters are not always just picky eaters and we have got to not judge other on our own believes.

    I have ARFID which also might have triggered other EDs, so yeah. I get frustrated to the point of tears that i cant eat the same things as everyone else. Never been able to eat out, and i get super anxious around food. It isnt that im picky, its that i literally cannot stomach it and it isnt something that i do on purpose, i genuinely hate it Rant over lmfao

    Yeah, aside from having a super sensitive stomach coupled with IBS, I also have boatloads of food allergies and texture issues with foods. Basically, food is poisonous for me and I'm just waiting for the day when they invent a pill or tablet that gives you all the nutrients and vitamins you need while curbing your hunger.

    Depends on if you're expecting everyone to accommodate you every time. ESPECIALLY if you aren't coming forward with suggestion*S* (more than once) yourself. "Let me know a place you want to go, but it can't be ABCDEFG. Alright thanks!". Friends? Sure. Do anything food related, ever? Probably not. And because of that, we're probably hanging less often because I like food

    @@yubikyu i feel you. i am an extremely picky eater thats caused by my autism. i also cant eat out or cant eat with family or friends normally. i have a small set of specified (odd not most people) meals i can endure. still dont even like half of them. eating is someting i have come to loathe. it dont enjoy doing it, its embarrising to do around people and hard to talk about. it makes me feel alienated and i wish i could eat more. i really do try new foods from time to time, but usually i cant get past a couple bites. with each bite the tastes and textures get stronger and stronger, and i start to feel like pucking and on the verge of crying if i continue.

    I think sushi is good in general, most foods that originated in Asian culture are good in general. Sushi might just be the greatest fish/seafood dish in my opinion. I thought you meant like 100+ years old sushi, looks pretty good though xD edit: love your videos Aki, I have been watching you for 3 years and I have never gotten bored of your content, love you!!!

    I think grilled fish has to be my favorite. I've not gotten to eat grilled fish too often other than salmon, but the idea of eating flakey, crispy skin and fish sounds amazing to me.

    Joey and Aki are couple goals and taught good lesson, "if you are not allergy to it, might as well try" I would never found half of foods I love today if I never tried them, even if I ended up hate new things I ate later but hey at least I tried :]

    I'm a SUPER picky eater, but my parents taught me to try everything at least once so I'm only picky about foods I've already tried at least once, AND I'll make sure to retry a food after 5-7 years since your taste buds change every 7 or so years. My kids are also picky, and I'm proud to have passed down the "at least take a couple of bites before you judge" tradition. I hate fish in general, but I'd still try this even though I might make a face LOL Every new dish is a new experience, so trying as much as you can around the world is kind of like gaining experience points irl XD

    I always enjoy trying new food, because of the exact reasons Joey said. Theres no harm in it, and through it I found alot of things I ended up really enjoying that I thought I would never like. I also reccomend re-trying things every few years, because tastes change so there are a few things I tried like as a kid and didn't like, but then due to whatever circumstance I ended up rehaving it now years later and now those are some of my favorite foods.

    Having had some, I’d describe it as something with a fishy, seared sashimi-like mouthfeel that tastes like very strong blue cheese drizzled liberally with lemon juice. It’s pretty good with rice.

    The fish roe looked so good in that funazushi! It made it seem extra special, like when a regular fried fish has fish roe. I was exactly like Joey when other people told me they were picky eaters haha. However, I learned some people have ARFID for extreme cases so I'm more understanding if it's serious.

    I mean, technically red miso is fermented for about a year (or at least it was when I made it) so you’ve probably eaten food that’s fermented that long without knowing the process. This is certainly on a different level though! I’d need a lot of rice to help carry that over haha

    Totally agree with you guys. I'm always saying, if it doesn't make me sick or kill me, I'll try it. You never know what food you'll absolutely fall in LOVE with if you don't try anything.     I had a weak stomach when I was a kid (I couldn’t enjoy any type of food because I’ll end up with a stomachache & throw up) so I was really picky with the food I eat but thankfully now that I’m an adult & my stomach can handle most food, I started trying more food I was afraid to try when I was younger & I like them most of the time if I had the opportunity I would like to try funazushi

    I am terrified of anything that doesnt look as soft as it is. For example I once picked up a centepide(centepede?) And since it looks like it has this exoskeleton I think that it is at least slightly sturdy. And then the mf wasnt and he felt squishy and I slammed it out of fear of the squishy lol Same thing happened with the massage/spa marbels I was not expecting it to be as soft as it was and I also chucked it away from me xD If I bite anything softer that I expect, I will also chuck it across the room 🤣🤣🤣

    I feel the same as Joey when it comes to people refusing to try new foods. I have a hard time making dinner plans with people who aren’t willing to be adventurous while eating. I don’t like going to restaurants just to spend money on food that I grew up eating and could easily make at home.

    6:50 I think Aki is talkin about "Tamban" which is a sun dried fish and when it is cooked its aroma spreads around your house like crazy. It isreally good actually but it also activates an allergic reaction on my skin every time I eat one. My throat, fingers hands thighs all have pink spots which is sad tbh so they have to be careful of cooking it when I am around the house because of that.
