I wouldn’t confuse her lack of English for innocence. She grew up in war in Vietnam, you don’t leave that with innocence. She is so experienced in tragedy in life that instead of complaining about how hard it was she looks for everything positive in life that’ll make herself smile.

My parents both passed away in a motorcycle accident when I was 12, but I am always happy when people actually cherish their parents when they've been blessed enough to still have them. I obviously can't ask my parents these questions, but seeing you ask them, and seeing your mom's responses is a kind thing to share with all of us. I may not have my own mom's answers, but I'll gladly accept and heed your mom's advice in her place. Thank you.

@@mtran1593 The Southerners Han migrated to South Vietnam in the 17th century to flee from the Manchus. She speaks Cantonese, I don't think you can understand any word she says. But she has a very clear South Vietnamese accent.

Being from an Vietnamese immigrant family, these stories really put life into perspective and I'm pretty grateful to have grown up hearing many of them. The little problems we have today are nothing compared to the problems our parents have faced in the past trying to escape war torn countries.. Makes me feel weak when I worry / complain about stuff as well. The stories of my parents are really what keeps me going. Can't give up after all they've gone through...

Schau Schau my dad is a immigrant from Mexico, I remember when I was little he got shot at. He has no communication with my older brothers or his parents. I cried when she said everything about being happy, catching what is close. I got that she was trying to express that you should be happy of what you have. She is so wholesome and generous to everything around her, that is how I aspire to be.

She has such a beautiful soul

Your mom reminds me so much of my mom. My dad passed away when i was 11. she took care of all 6 of us and never complained ever if it was really hard. She also told me once that she will be the happiest and rest when all of us will be settled in life. I am the youngest and i always felt like i have to work as hard as i can to suceed so that i can somehow repay all she did for me. Finally few months ago i graduated with my PhD and my mom retired! Now i am happy that she can enjoy her life. My mom has the biggest heart I swear she is always trying to give me money and think that I am starving because I moved in another country. Cherish your mon people!

She finds joy in the simplest things. I love that.
