Once you know how to make curtains i think buying them becomes irrelevant, i mean just get the material you like to the exact size you need and bam, custom curtains.

That is so true. I refuse to buy curtains and all mine are homemade.

"Too late!" LOL, you kill me. Just watched this one, and now you're in the throes (I hope) of moving to the newly purchased house after doing all this for a rental you had hoped to be in for years. *sigh* But I'm in the process of acquiring fabric for curtains as well, and have never sewn them, so this was fun and encouraging.

I argue that unwavering determination in the face of endless windows(&neighbors) is curtain mastery.

Great start. Some tips may help in the future. When we moved into our current home, I had to deal with 3 floors of windows! While I knew how to make a basic curtain, I didn't know about any of the variations or the math. What I did find was there are quite a few great books on the topic. One of them (which I loaned to someone and never got back) was nothing more than 1000's of window treatment drawings showing the construction components. It was the most enlightening book I had and it inspired me to try some very unusual (and not difficult) window treatments. Along the way, I learned that you typically want 2-3 times the window width for the amount of fabric in a curtain and more for a drape. The height (how much above or below the curtain rod) and length, depends on a lot of factors, not least of which, I'm sure you know, is your preference. But even then, there were recommendations in the various books based on providing a balanced look. Any who, that was almost 20 years ago and I wouldn't be surprised if most, if not all of this, is now available on line. FYI I think the book I had was called something like Big Book of Window Treatments. I do recall I found it at our local Home Depot.

finding this vid after duplicating the old curtains in the dining room with an equally heavy but more cheerier vertical striped fabric, and even matching the stripes on the tabs to the curtains so they are 'seamless'...without a 'pattern' bar the old curtains themselves...what COVID lockdown fun that was. Probably should have made them another few inches longer...but hey, at least they are made, up, and usable!!! And then I 'recovered' the seats of the dining chairs with the same fabric, and used the leftover bits to make elastic tubs to hold the pot lids on to the pots while they are on their pot-hanger....so matchy-matchy! I may have enough to do another smaller recover, just haven't decided what at this time. Maybe a flounce for the kitchen window?

Hi, several years ago when I remarried I moved into a brand new two story house!, and counting the number of windows came to 32!Being brand new no window coverings, accessories to hang curtains aka drapes and a husband who wanted maroon velvet curtains! ( imagine the cost?) so microfibre was the next option, which was in fact quite thin so a lining was required, so eventually 3 pass lining was chosen. The width of fabric was 60 inches, but one window was a double sized sliding double door, opening on to a small sized balcony, on the second floor, the total size being 6 metres wide (sorry don’t know what that is in inches,). Each curtain had curtain tape that required to be pleated, which was the easiest because 3 pronged curtain hooks did the trick. Long story short this ‘window’, each curtain had 2 1/2 drops in it making 5 drops in all!, plus the same amount of lining, the weight was enormous, the curtain tracks had to be secured every 9 inches or so, which took me ages to put up and secure (new hubby didn’t like heights!) these walls were 8 1/2 feet high, downstairs they were 9 feet high!, although glad windows weren’t floor to ceiling! At one stage I had to order a full bolt of this fabric which was 50 metres about maybe 70 feet! which was no where enough. However after 4 years we separated, add insult to injury he never ever gave me any monetary amount to pay for these curtains nor anything for my labour, calculations and overall cost! Will never ever forget making these curtains nor the look when they were finished!

lol i do the half day things too . sometimes 2 or 3 hours are good the a switch is needed.

Your man playing with the dog was hilarious. I have two young dogs (actual brother and sister) and they are so funny when they play. As for the curtains - I find tabs to be the easiest method for hanging them and like to use fancy ribbons to make them. I always line them too - I live in a rural and don't have many neighbours but I still want privacy and stop the wind and cold coming in. Loved your old net curtains btw, I am a big fan of them.

Great job. Those lace curtains really do get dirty! We bought a house that had been unoccupied for 3 years, and they were on long wide original Victorian windows. Living room, dining, and formal parlor, they were so filthy that I was gagging. But it had all original woodwork and big pocket doors…so much character! We ended up selling the house to my sister-in-law and she painted all of that beautiful woodwork white! The horror I felt was tangible!🧐😢

I love the fabric you chose for the guest bedroom. Hope you saved some for overalls! 😂

I've just been asked to make curtains for the preschool where my sister works. They want covers for the storage area. 48"x57"!!!

If it makes you feel better, the glottal stop in place of a /t/ is the same phoneme, if actually phonetically different in sound. /Kur’-in/ = /Kur-tin/

Watching KZread and tv and movies in my 41 years on earth I have come to the realisation that this is a uniquely American problem... when you move into a new house here in New Zealand there will already be curtains in situ. I've moved house every 18 months on average and have never once moved into a home that didn't have curtains! The only time that happens here is if you build a new house, but you'd put curtains in as part of decorating before you move in! 😂

Oh, also - all curtains here would be thermal backed (rubberised) and or "light blocking" (triple layered with black as the middle layer). What you had in the sitting room aren't curtains, they're "nets" or "terralines" - privacy screens that still let in light ❤

Did you make the purple dress? Better question would be did you make all the outfits in video?
