Good review, the car does drive fantastically, and for us who are 6ft+ it's a great size without having to go full size SUV. If you're thinking about buying one, the 2.0L turbo diesel is the pick of the bunch, the higher torque moves the Tucson forward with ease.

Great review Matt, as always I enjoy your content. My wife is looking at this for her next car. She will be coming from a Mazda CX-5 2.0 litre auto, so I guess there won’t be a huge difference to her. Direct competitor to this I think I will be the upcoming Kia Sportage- both SUVs that I call “car origami” due to those sharp lines!

Top video Matt. Hyundai Australia really nailed it with the Tuscon, by choosing to market the long Wheel Base model in Aus.. That rear seat room is outstanding. For that price, getting cooled seats is also trumps in the heat of Australia. One question. I wear polarised sunnies. Does the cowl-less dash make reading speed etc harder?

  • @CarSauce

Yep, they nailed it! I wore polarised sunnies too while driving it and never had an issue!

You didn’t note that they have quietly dropped the manual from the Tucson lineup in Australia. It seems that not enough buyers in this segment actually enjoy an engaging drive. You are right about the diesel. In the UK I had use of a manual diesel AWD a few winters ago and it was a terrific drive in the cold and wet!

My wife was in the market recently for this class of vehicle and was suggested this particular SUV. But after some digging and thoroughly looking a many different reviews, we couldn't get passed the Haval H6 Ultra 2WD. A direct Tuscon Highlander competitor for base model Tuscon money. Insanely packed with features and it looks gorgeous. Drives really well too seating 5 in comfort powered by 2.0 petrol turbo with 150kw/320Nm and 7sp dual clutch auto. Stretched it's legs yesterday long distance and it did not disappoint. Highly recommend

Lol if you are comparing a Hyundai to a Haval then there you have your problem ..... Haval cheaper because of the quality but that is where the Havals advantage ends .

Why are people today surprised, when they accelerate & put their foot down in cars, that they can hear the engine revving hard🤔??. That's what usually happens when you accelerate harshly😂?. I own a new 2023 Tucson in the 2l naturally aspirated petrol engine, & it drives & sounds exactly as it should. These a very impressive, comfortable, luxury, smooth & confident driving SUV. Cabin is premium feeling & fresh, suspension & steering is also impressive & very composed. Hyundai built a superb family SUV that is priced very reasonably, well done Hyundai 👏. I recommend this SUV to anyone considering.

They should have used the 2.4 eng from the sonata .That 2Lt na eng worked well in the previous Tuscon as it was smaller and lighter . better still could had the option of the V6 from the Santa Fe

For me the new Nissan Qashqai is a better SUV because of the fantastic heads up display it has as well as all of the good things Tuscon has. I'm not sure if it has come to Australia yet or not though.

It would be a stunning SUV if it had the Toyota Kluger's V6. But the engine choices are not that great in Australia, both the petrol options are gutless and need to be thrashed and while diesels are OK, Hyundai isn't known for the smoothest turbo diesel engines. The USA gets a 2.5 NA engine with on demand 4WD and 2 smaller engine hybrid options.
