Hyundai | The Dawn of a New Hyundai
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Welcome to the dawn of a new Hyundai. 2023 marks the dawn of a new Hyundai in the UK. We’ve taken this opportunity to break the mould and embrace a new chapter for our cars and the company, including changing the pronunciation of the brand in the UK to bring it in line with the global organisation and our Korean heritage.
It's the dawn of a new Hyundai.

Seems like other car makers are doing the same. I noticed that Škoda is now pronounced correctly in UK adverts (Shko-da). BTW - Škoda translates to "pity", quite funny when you think about all the jokes made at their expense.
@wyarp
Жыл бұрын
But what does 'correctly' even mean?! All countries (and especially those with different alphabets, Russia, Greece, Korea etc) have a different way of speaking and pronunciation beyond just mere different words. That's why different countries create their own version of pronunciation that fits 'their' language. Asian countries pronounce our brand names etc such differently, that's just the way it is. What's 'correct' in Korea is not necessarily 'correct' in other Western countries, be that the UK or any other country for that matter. The British division of Skoda always pronounced it as just that 'Skoda', based on the way our language works phonetically. Saying not that this version or that version are correct is somewhat pretentious and nonsensical. We all speak different languages so different words are going to be pronounced differently.
Pretty sure the guy right at the end is still saying it wrong 🤣

Here in America we pronounce it as Hyundai like Sunday. 😀
@Josh-179

@Bruce tv , most of the English language isn't spelled phonetically, which is why a phonetic spelling is listed near the word in the dictionary. Just because Hyundai isn't spelled Hunday, doesn't mean it's not one of the "correct" ways of saying it. Every country says it differently.
Is Hyundai running ads in each country saying their own name differently? In the US, they spent millions on one Superbowl spot to clarify that "it's Hyundai, like Sunday" while showing clips all around the world saying it wrong.

I've seen these adverts in the UK recently. They still mispronounce it somehow. It's 현대 (Hyundae) not 휸대 (Hyoondae).
You need to release mini clips of a British fluent Korean-speaking narrator saying it because the narrator at the end still says it wrong. 😅 The lady getting in the car was the one who said it best. I feel sorry for the lowly worker who tried to tell their boss and got ignored. Could go around the streets asking people to say it with some Korean speakers and then they say it correctly. It will crossover well to shorts/reels/short ads etc. Collaborate with @koreanenglishman and his wife sharing Korean food up and down Britain while driving your newest model car. As someone whose name has been said and spelled wrong all my life and even wasn't allowed to be spelled how my parents wanted on my birth certificate in my birth country... this is bothering me so much more than it should. Let me go make my Lemsip and go to bed. lol🤣 edit: Ok, I was so busy being put off by the fact it's still incorrect pronunciation, I didn't realise it was intentional so that they can say "it's a dawn of a new day". But I don't get why the 'hyun' part was abandoned to say incorrectly as well.

The 'de' part is pronounced like the first e in the word 'better'. I have no clue how the creators managed to mess up the pronunciation of their own brand in an advert correcting its pronunciation, but they did.
I commented on a video of a person saying it incorrectly, I said "it's pronounced like He-un-day" then the publisher said "Not in the UK it's not" so I copy and pasted the link to this video and replied to them.

Progressive and State Farm, two of America’s largest auto insurers, are refusing to write policies in certain cities for some older Hyundai and Kia models that have been deemed too easy to steal, according to the companies. Several reports say the companies have stopped offering insurance on these vehicles in cities that include Denver, Colorado and St. Louis, Missouri.
@Caffeinated-DaVinci

Yeah, and they issued a recall and you can get an immobilizer installed for free. Once done, the insurance companies have no reason to refuse coverage to you. Instead of asking why Hyundai didn't install immobilizers stock, you should start asking why the US allows manufacturers to decide whether to put them in or not instead of making it mandatory like 99% of the first world countries, start asking why these en-mass thefts were ONLY in the US (the only country that doesn't require them by law), start asking why insurance companies are even allowed to refuse to cover a car that's passed all other regulatory bodies and testing.
