I own a golf gti performance 7.5 which I purchased new last September. After test driving the i30n performance today I decided to sell the golf and go for this. I have driven many sports cars but this car for the price is just unbeatable. The highlights would be the exhaust (maybe too loud for some ), the handling, the gearbox, and the performance is not too bad, however when driving the car you feel like you are going much faster than you really are. With the golf I have to drive it much faster to get any sensations. I was not sure about the interior but after seeing it in real life I can honestly say that it's very acceptable . For sure the car is not as comfortable as the golf, but I really don't care when everything else is a step or 2 better.

Thx mate you just reassured me for my next car to be an i30N. I have seen a couple of reviews about i30 N and they all say the same. Just like Thomas said it, it is an amazing car for this price. They really made it between focus RS and practicality of GTI. Besides you get a lot of equipment as standard. I30 N is truly a GTI killer because it is faster (drag racing) then GTI, looks fine, feels great, quality good and costs less then GTI. Why should I buy a used 2-3 years old GTI for 20-25k when i can get the better, brand new I30n.

marko my golf was sold last night. The i30n is coming next week! A great car indeed. I have a feeling this car will keep it's price better than the golf as more people realise how good it is in the second hand market.

Great news, I envy you :-). Don't know where are you from mate, but here in Germany, everybody likes more that VW, tri-pointed star or 4 circles badges more. A lot of people don't realize how good Korean manufacturers have become. GTI sales maybe get affected a bit.

marko the new car arrived 3 days ago. It's a fantastic car, I love it and so does everyone else who goes for a ride. I can honestly say that I am getting more compliments each time I drive it than I did with the golf over 1 year's time. The other day I had a biker even complimenting me on the exhaust... I live in France by the way and here too people prefer Audi then merc then BMW... To each their own I suppose

I drive an old i20 from 2012 and I’m really impressed how well it performs with almost zero problems and a long time of warranty and brand based inspection of the vehicle. I really like the price-performance ratio. Nice review I think this car is a really nice competitor against other brand hot hatches.

Finally! It's about time Autogefuhl reviewed the i30 N. It's a shame though you didn't had the chance to drive the i30 N Performance. The diff and the exhaust, THE EXHAUST especially, makes a bigger difference than you might think and worth every penny. You liked the little pop in the tunnel? Then you really have to review the performance version. I'm eager to see it next soon! I love this car! Great reviews as always! Thomas, you're the best

With this review, You really showed everybody that you are not biassed when it comes to giving honest, argument advice which car to buy. This car just gives a bit of more spice to everyday life than the GTI. Six mounts ago I would go for GTI (I love GTI) but now, this car is just better for what it delivers. Great review Thomas.

Hyundai is spot-on with the level of aero kit detailing/colour accents placed within the car., it looks aggressive enough without overdoing it. Nothing too fancy with the interior but everything is there and neatly well laid out. Fantastic sounding engine ( 18:30 ) pops and crackling ( 20:35 ). Top review and matching blue shirt to go along with the car Thomas!

Excellent review, and so full of details.... I wish we could get this in North America. All we get is the Elantra GT Sport hatchback with a 1.6L Turbo. The 6 speed manual is very rare here.

Great review and excellent job from Hyundai. What else would you expect from Albert Biermann? The man knows how to make put together a performance vehicle! I do wish the non performance pack had the crack and pop exhaust like the performance version. Oh well, they have to cut corners somewhere for the base model. BTW, the color is called 'performance blue' ;-).

That's about the most sensible, respectable response to "Can it beat Golf GTI?" question I've heard in all i30N reviews. No badge snobism, no fanboyism - just a clear, neutral response that actually helps! Well done, Autogefühl!

Most reviewers say it stands for both, Namyang and Nurburgring, something Hyundai clearly does not want to discourage!

Having this WRC team colour for this car is really what makes it special to me. It’s interesting that they chose the i30 for this, rather than the i20 coupe which the WRC car is based on. I would really love to see an i20 N.

Dr. Josef Blough Ph.D. ,the minute someone says they have "insider information" , it's safe to say they're full of crap. Hyundai has the 2nd lowest warranty claims in the entire industry. Hyundai doesn't "need" the warranty. It's there because they can.

Great car review Thomas. This car is crazy, so untuck your polo shirt. Never ever tuck in a polo shirt. It makes the belt look a little too high on the waist and may cause mothers to cross the road with their small children. Great review man, I’m sold.

I've been watching Korean compacts get better and better. I expected the newer i30 models to appeal to European drivers. Toyota could have built a car like this long ago, but they seem less sensitive to regional tastes than Hyundai and Kia. Another nice review, Thomas.

Exotic brands are catching up with European ones, Hyundai is the perfect example. I read in the comments that some of Golf owner’s are selling their car to buy a Hyundai i30N, that’s a very smart move because there’s absolutely no reason to spend more money to have fun driving. I saw another rewiew from Steve Sutcliffe from Vevo, he was driving the car from England to the Nurburgring circuit and was very enthusiastic about the i30N. Excellent review by the way, congratulations Thomas… 👍

Hi Thomas, are you going to do a review of the more normal versions of Hyundai i30? Perhaps i30 N line?

This car is huge fun to drive and great value for money. VW will have to substantially improve GTI to keep the "everyday hothatch crown". good news for all of us

You did such a good review and the i30N looks that competent, I looked up the model -- or attempted to -- in the US Market. We get the "Elantra GT" with the 1.6L turbo @201hp, but not the 2.0L "N", alas. The 30k Euros (~35k USD) price point is nearly at the base prices of the WRX STI, Golf R and Focus RS in the States which makes a FWD (not even optioned with a LSD, if I heard correctly) hatch a tough pill to swallow, not unlike the Type-R. I will continue to live vicariously through the wonders of youtube and expert reviews of Autogefuhl!

Here in Germany standard base model Golf R starts from 43k euros. GTI is 33k. Fokus RS i wouldnt even consider buying esspecially in the US.

Yes for a first shoot of hyundai it's a great job, i like mine, the only reproach it's bad for...the driving licence

I do wish they had gone for red constrast stitching on the steering wheel, that would look absolutely stunning

Good work from Hyundai but I miss a little bit color in the interior, on the dashboard or some contrast stitches on the seats.

Yeah felt the same. Is kind of ridiculous that my now pretty old Swift Sport seems to have a more sporty interior than this car(red stitching in many places etc). Only the gear leaver is kind of sporty in this. Also the seats seem kind of disappointing just by look at least. They seem a little too soft by looking at them. Not the kind of seats that give you a really good steady sitting position and this soft seats also can be bad for your spine because your body can't stay solid in a good position and it slides when the seats are like that. My Swift Sport has absolutely amazing seats, every time i sit on them i feel like my spine is getting straitened and i can drive a lot of time and feel really good without gliding out of position or feel uncomfortable. Honestly i am feeling disappointed that a car with double the price seems to have possibly worst seats that a 10 year old Swift sport. Can't fault the objects space though. At least this car has plenty of space to put things in the interior. Other than that pretty amazing car when it comes to driving. Although i am not a fan of that light blue or whatever that color is supposed to be and i wonder if there is some decent color variety to choose.

Again very good review, really like your content Thomas! I now have a GTI Clubsport '17, with 19' wheels and no adaptive dampers. Do you know how the i30N compares in Normal mode to the Clubsport? Is it a big difference? Well I will find out tomorrow, should have a testdrive planned in the i30N! :)

Great informative review as always! The i30N, Golf GTI and RS's etc aren't compact hatchbacks though are they? There aren't any bigger hatchbacks than those. I'd call Polo's and Fiesta's etc Compact Hatches, these are standard sized.

thanks! You can, but it will always be activated again at startup. If you have to pay more than 10 k more for the Civic R, nah

Watched so many videos on this car and the Fastback N, I still can't find out if this car "recommends" the 98octane fuel. Good video, with every video I watch about this car I find out a little bit more info that other channels haven't shown.

Hey Thomas. An other great review from the best 😊 How about a review of the Kia optima hybrid? In Denmark it is 20.000 cheaper than Passat gte so it seems like a deal 🤝 A small detail I miss in the reviews is the middle seat in the back. I got 3 kids age 10 to 13 and therefor need a car with good space on the backseat 😊

It is a decent car its just to hard on the road. I mean i would love this car with optional auto transmission and setting that makes the suspension a little softer.

FYI these seats automatically slide back when you open driver door to help you get out. So when testing legroom on back seats it wasnt representative. Once the driver is in place the seat slides forward and you have plenty legroom in the back.

I always check that this doesnt happen when we test the rear leg room, e.g. by letting ignition active or whatever the car needs for that. The legroom is short, but its no wonder, its compact segment ...
