Hyundai i30 Fastback N v Nurburgring
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
It's the spiritual home of the modern performance car, one that attracts car enthusiasts not just for the inherent challenge, but the adventure of getting to there, setting a lap, and then being able to get home.
In our latest video, we sent evo Contributing Editor Steve Sutcliffe to the iconic Nürburgring to lap the Nordschleife in Hyundai's i30 Fastback N, and remind us why it deserves its place as the ultimate pilgrimage for the performance car enthusiast.

It's the first time I believe that so much promotion for a car is what it deserves 100%.
Stop giving this car praise, I don't want people knowing it's good, I want it to be rare when I get mine and I want it cheap, so don't want them to sell well, then hopefully I can get a deal at a trader.

@@clapham4life I know, they really good value. Some have only done 1000-3000 miles and already £7000 off brand new prices. I'm so tempted to take a test drive in one. I hate selling cars and the trade in value will be a lot less than what my current car is worth. Plus I still haven't seen what the fastback looks like in person, I'm still a bit undecided on the looks of it.

Your original Hatch review was the main reason I went to test drive an i30N and then subsequently bought one. Just such a brilliant car to drive on British A and B roads. This fastback looks nice but maybe one for the older crowd.

I have done 2k miles in mine since new and the computer shows 26.9mpg. I don't exactly drive it sensibly most the time though. I reckon on a long commute you would probably see 30ish mpg. Definitely not a car to buy if you care about economy though.
This is not the first video on the channel with this man and an i30N, and I think it's fair of me to say his clearly qualified enthusiasm had a hand in electing the car into my serious options, because he isn't the type to feign enthusiasm on most/all videos, not at all, so his attitude speaks a lot of the cars. I will add that, with automatic driving and other such amenities incoming in the medium-long term, these may be the last few years to get a sporty car in the sense that that has for many keen drivers.
The most discussed Hot Hatchback is done by Hyundai - And it's not the most powerful one, actually far from it. Isn't that mystical? This car really seems to have a soul.

I hear what you are saying Johny, but Hyundai have been making very good cars (reliable, well made, cheap) for many years, trying to undercut other brands so that they can get a foothold into the UK market. Now they have proven themselves, and we are seeing performance models that are also very competitive with other brands. I work for Hyundai, and to be honest, I am very proud to say it, it is a fantastic company to be part of.

Nice car the i30 FB, got to see one coming back from Wales and thought it look like an interesting RS3!
Hyundai please listen. Bring this to the US and I will buy it.
Lovely machine. Wish they would bring it to the U.S.
With an i30, you get performance and handling one step higher than its price class, stylishness and visible quality one step below. It is the C segment's Fiesta ST. Wish a Mini you get stylishness and visible quality one step higher than its price, handling and performance one step down its price class. All cars that manage to stay in the market make sense, what you have to understand is which make more, less, or no sense for you personally. With a Golf (GTI) you have a balanced situation: performance, handling, interior refinement (which includes things like how effective the air conditioning system is, sound quality, and so forth) are all on the same level. The car's averageness makes it a sales blockbuster (which success in turn feeds itself, 'cause people like to imitate the majority), as well as a wrong choice for enthusiasts. I wish there was more technical debate, and less insults thrown in the comments: it's simply about accepting diversity of mind, in fact instead than in words only.

New car hatchback orders are now coming as MY20 (L code) and have the new suspension settings along with a few other minor tweaks. MY19 (K code) cars are still on the stiffer setting. So in the UK a 19 plate would still be MY19 but a 69 plate is likely to be a MY20. I've driven two i30N hatches recently, a 19 plate demo and a 69 plate car with 100 miles on the clock, and didn't realise why they felt so different until I found out about the changes.

Would have been so easy just to stick up a basic GPS app on your phone for a more accurate speed reading: it would have a margin of error of anything between 5-10%, meaning a genuine speed of between 150-160. Still blindingly fast (and not just for a Hyundai either!), but would have at least neutralised any inaccuracies from the speedo.
