Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism.
This would obviously have to be the exact opposite of hyPERthyroidism… incase that wasn’t entirely clear. This thyroid disease is much more common in dogs than cats.

I actually have just had my kiddo (fur baby, dog) diagnosed with this and he takes one pill every day and it’s been such a huge help! Especially with his skin and bloating. It was not cheap to figure it out though… almost $8000 (Canadian) in vet bills. And now paying for the meds, adds more to it (and I had to change his food to something that’s super low fat, which isn’t cheap either… but he is worth every penny 🫶🏼) Could you maybe do a video explaining how fat content in dog food works? It’s been so hard to understand and navigate. Thank you for all you do 🐕 ♥️

family friends of ours had an old corgi named Truman. Both Truman and his human dad had/have this condition. His dad always tried to get him to exercise with him, but the poor pooch just got lazier with age, and the weight gain would worsen. Unfortunately the old pup had to be put to sleep, but he was very well cared for by his family. They’ve since adopted a very healthy German Shepard (adopted him a few years ago actually) named Sharo who helps his dad stay active still, which is very nice to see!

My sister is a radiology physicist and has said that it's the same in humans... though, in animals, the lifespan is less, therefore the I-131 half life risks are lower than humans; conversely, in a human, if they have a hyperthyroidism, the risks from treatment that cause hypothyroidism are more desired than another reoccurrence of the hyperthyroidism, because apparently it's easier to control with said pills that you take. I hope they are working for you. My friend has them too.x

people vet here (aka a physician). its remarkable how similar pathology and treatment is across pets and people. although, with pets you are going to be dealing consistently with parents so its like perma peds. fuck peds.

Lol, I’m the human patient with this. Untreated it’s awful but thankfully the treatment is pretty easy and effective.
