Super cool trick! I’m curious though if there’s a noticeable change in performance using this method versus using set position in geometry nodes to do the displacement? Would be cool to see a comparison of the two

Its an insane difference. Just think about the polycount. With geometry nodes you need a super dense mesh. With this method you just have 4polys x array repetitions. This is more like an inefficient parallax shader. But that said you can make a simple parallax shader in eevee, you have the same depth effect and it's more performant than this setup. And there are a couple tutorials that show you how to actually do that

This is how the Octane render engine did all the displacement stuff. Never thought to try it in Eevee though! Great idea!

This is insane, until we get proper parallax occlusion this is gonna speed up my render times like crazy, BTW is there any way to move the model without braking the ajustment?

So I suppose this "layered pie" doesnt make sense, paralax occlusion shaders are created for blender. It;s more effective

It just work on flat surfaces, ok so it’s almost useless. Its still nice to have some exercise in blender.

Why not use geometry nodes for the displacement? Seems much simpler and likely more performant
