Hydraulic flume demonstration

Ғылым және технология

We would like to introduce you to our demonstration hydraulic flume. The flume is a scale model of the flow of water in a simple channel, driven by a system of recirculating pumps and featuring scale models of typical engineered structures such as weirs, bridges, culverts and debris screens.

I find this fascinating . Your demonstration of the three arch bridge , reminds me of something that I have wondered about all my life. Near were I live is a medieval bridge built in1490 . Which is still in use today, there are 6 arches ,. Upstream of each , is a stone ship shaped like extension . Presumable to protect each arch from debris such as large tree trunks that sometimes come down on a flood . And to divide the water as it goes through each arch . But the interesting thing is there is a similar shaped structure on the down stream side of each arch . Is this to stop the water washing out the foundations of the bridge , by smoothing the flow or is it for some other reason?

interesting, in regensburg where i lived there is a similarly build bridge, it was made in the 12th century and i too always wondered why it was built that way. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_Bridge_(Regensburg)

kzread.info/dash/bejne/n5OOrtuzctzQaZs.html They have another video that shows a bridge peir in action. Your hypothesis is correct. It's the same principle as the angled weir to try to reduce the WAS level and scouring.

I cannot agree with the angled bridge. The elvel is newrly the same and you are messuring on the side towards the camera which is farer away from the entrences. So obviously the water is blocket a lot more on this side. So if you messure on your side the result will be different if not inverted. If you build these tunnels in an angle, the entrace would increase towards the direction of the river flow which would absolutely increase the flow and with this decrease the water level upstream. But your model looks like you did not build the tunnel with the same cross section towards the direction of the tunnel but with the same cross section towards the direction of you main river flow. So, the netrance is the same. This is not what you want to show, or is it? I also don'T agree with your angled bar screen. Because what you want to show is that the angled one doesn't block the water so much because of the angle the step. But are showing something else. THe non angled one decreased the entrance surface area right at the entrance. this angled one quite a bit before. So it just creates its own blockage which is completely independent from the blockage of the tunnel entrance. and because the bigger blockage is the tunnel, the screen dosn't effect the water level. It's just not the bottel neck. Bit is also wouldn't it you would built it vertically but a bit away from the tunnel. And when you covered the entrance with this green something, the first entrance was blocked completely while this one wasn't because it is not right at the entrance. Thats not a fair comparison
