    Hi TW, i am interested in changing my string setup from alu power and xcel. Ive got a few ideas in mind which include Babolat Hybrid Hurricane Tour 17+Xcel 16 String, Solinco Tour Bite 17 & Vanquish 16 Hybrid String, Volkl Psycho Hybrid 16 String Black/Silver or others that you would suggest trying in my head graphene xt speed ltd. I am a agressive baseliner.

    @ sghowie, That setup would work great! Multifilaments don't slide quite as well on the poly string and thus don't produce quite as much spin as a gut main setup would, but it is still going to offer loads of power, comfort and feel at a lower price. Andy, TW

    @ Zach Pointer, I do slide a lot on the hard courts, but I can't say that I would "recommend" it to anyone. It does help me with my movement, especially recovery back to the middle of the court, but it can be unsafe is not done properly. It also can be unsafe if your shoes are especially sticky. So, as of now I have no plans of making a "how to" video anytime soon. Andy, TW

    Hi TW, so i am considering a wilson revolve and wilson optimus hybrid for my setup. Am i correct in assuming neither of those strings are shaped/textured/rough? My concern is that i heard having a shaped/textured/rough string in a hybrid reduces durability of the setup and that i should try looking for smooth or round strings.

    I've been using the RPM Blast 17 strung at 56 in my RF97. It plays really well, except I'm looking for a bit more comfort. Could you suggest a hybrid setup which could help me out here? I know the Fed uses one with this racket. The discomfort could also be the harsh feel from the leather grip as well, which I'm not too used to yet. Would an over-grip help?

  • @tenniswarehouse

    @tenniswarehouse

    7 жыл бұрын

    @Hitesh Shewakramani, Wilson Champion’s Choice is the ideal Hybrid for this racquet, and the string that Federer endorses. A great alternative to the Wilson Champion’s Choice, at a lower price, is the Volkl V-Fuse Hybrid, which is also a natural gut hybrid. A couple other options that are not natural gut hybrids, but still perform great, are Babolat Hybrid Hurricane Tour + Xcel, and Volkl Psycho Hybrids. Troy, TW

    @Hitesh Shewakramani, A leather grip will add have a firmer feel, compared to a synthetic/cushion type of grip. An overgrip is definitely a good idea, to wrap on top of the leather grip. If this still feels too firm, you remove the leather grip, and apply a synthetic grip, such as the Wilson Sublime Replacement Grip. Troy, TW

  • @tenniswarehouse

    @tenniswarehouse

    6 жыл бұрын

    @Aaron Agustin, Being that these are all synthetic gut strings, there won't be much of a difference between your main and cross strings. If looking to venture into hybrid stringing, I would try a co-poly in the mains, and one of these synthetic gut strings in the crosses. A co-poly like Tourna Poly Big Hitter Silver, Gosen Polylon, or ISOSPEED Cream are some good choices. We recommend dropping the tension of the co-poly strings 2-3 pounds compared to a synthetic gut. Hi, I currently use Yonex PT Spin (Blue) in the mains, and PTP in the crosses. I really like this setup, also for its relatively low price, however I do feel the PTP does lose tension quite quickly, and the TWU stats back this up. What would be the best soft, cheap poly to put in the crosses with similar playability to PTP, but better tension maintenance? From my research Isospeed cream looks like a good candidate. Also, I really like the PTS in the mains, however the blue doesn't match with every racket. Do you agree that Head Lynx Tour or Solinco Confidential would be a good replacement for the PTS, I based this of the similarities of the TWU stats. Thanks, Alex.

    if I go with higher tension in the crosses (with a multi in crosses and poly in mains) than mains. How will the string bed behave differentially than if I go higher in mains lower in crosses?

  • @tenniswarehouse

    @tenniswarehouse

    7 жыл бұрын

    @siddhant makhija, Typically the softer string (multi) is strung a few pounds tighter than the stiffer string (co-poly), in order to balance out the difference in the stiffness between the two string materials. This would be done no matter which string goes in the mains/crosses. Another rule of thought is to lower the cross string tension by a few pounds to allow the main strings to slide and snap-back easier, to increase spin-potential. Although if you try this with a Multi in the crosses, you run the risk of the string bed feeling too powerful/lively. Troy, TW

    @NOSTUB, I typically favor the poly in the mains, for hybrids with multi or synthetic gut (nylon). I think in your case especially, being that you like playing with a full-bed of Revolve, the poly main hybrid will be an easier transition for you. Troy, TW

  • @tenniswarehouse

    @Nicklas Louie, If you go with the syn gut in the mains, it will provide a bit more power and feel. The co-poly in the mains will provide some added control, and durability. I prefer the co-poly mains for a bit more control, and spin. Typically, I prefer the co-poly mains, unless it is mixed with natural gut, as the natural gut still provides high levels of spin. I have found that with syn gut or multi, the spin is not quite as good when in the mains. Troy, TW

    Hi Andy. I notice some of the pros are stringing their racquets with a different tension on the mains and crosses. Do you know what that does? I've tried looking at the forums but I can't get a definite answer.

  • @tenniswarehouse

    @tenniswarehouse

    7 жыл бұрын

    @Alexander Cortez, Typically the more elastic string, such as natural gut, is strung a few pounds higher than the stiffer string, such as co-poly. This is to help balance out the elastic qualities of the two different strings used in a hybrid. Furthermore, there are some pro players who string their crosses a few pounds lower than the main strings, with hopes of getting a bit more spin-potential. The looser cross strings allow the main strings to move more freely. This is supposed to increase the snap-back effect of the main strings to help produce more spin on each shot. Troy, TW

    @ David Li, It depends on your stroke style and personal preference. If you have shorter, slower strokes and don't break strings often, you may like the power, comfort and feel from a nice multifilament like Tecnifibre NRG2. If you have longer, faster strokes and can generate much of your own power, you may like the control, spin and durability of a nice polyester string like Head Sonic Pro Edge. Andy, TW

    I use a hybrid. The Babolat VS Touch gut on mains and Luxilon Alu Power Rough on crosses. Though it feels good the guy gets frayed too quickly and breaks after a month. This set up is expensive too. Any other suggestions? I've switched the Luxilon Alu Power Rough with the RPM Blast as its a smoother string will provide more snap back and not fray the gut like the Alu power rough because of its grooves. What do you think.

  • @tenniswarehouse

    @tenniswarehouse

    8 жыл бұрын

    @ HollywoodToronto, Well, RPM Blast is a completely different string than natural gut, so you're going to get a huge difference in playability compared to what you're used to. If you want something similar to what you're used to but is a bit more affordable, try a cheaper natural gut like Klip Legend or a nice multifilament string like Tecnifibre X-One Biphase. Those two softer options will replicate the feel of VS Touch but will be a bit more friendly on the wallet. Andy, TW

    HollywoodToronto , Ah, I misunderstood. The sharp edges of RPM Blast will have a different effect on the gut as the rough texture of ALU Rough. It's hard to say if it will make it fray as much, more or less, so the only way to find out is to try and see if it works better for you. If you find RPM has the same effect, you could try a round, smoother poly like Volkl V-Star or Head Lynx that may wear down the gut less. Andy, TW

    Hi TW! I just bought Tecnifibre HDX Tour 17 and Wilson Revolve 16. I was planning to use both strings in a hybrid to replace my Tecnifibre X-One Biphase because I want to have more control and spin on my shots. I asked my stringer and he recommended that I put Revolve in the mains at 48 lbs. and HDX Tour in the crosses at 53 lbs. (same tension I use with biphase). What are your thoughts on this setup? Would it still work the other way around? HDX Tour mains and Revolve crosses? Thank you.

    @John Ronald Juevesano, Sounds like a good hybrid set-up. You could put the HDX Tour in the mains, for some added power, and feel, but it will be a bit less durable. The Revolve in the mains will provide a bit more control, and durability. The spin potential should be good either way you configure the hybrid. I prefer the poly in the mains for a bit more control. Typically, you will find a bit more grip on the ball and spin potential from the poly in the mains. However in our TW University lab testing, with a natural gut in a hybrid with a poly, the spin potential is high with the gut in the mains. I think maybe because most natural guts have a strong, and slick coating that allows for easy sliding, and superb elasticity helps with the snap-back effect. Troy, TW

    I was a little confused when Chris mentioned different types of polyester strings. I've heard of some people say monofilament Polys and multifilament polys in regard to construction but i always thought poly strings were all monofilament.

  • @tenniswarehouse

    @tenniswarehouse

    7 жыл бұрын

    Most polys are indeed monofilament, however, most are now co-poly in construction. That means the poly is mixed with another material before being extruded as a monofilament. The result is often softer playing strings which offer slightly improved comfort, ball pocketing and often power compared to a traditional 100% poly strings. Some additives can improve tension hold as well, while others do the exact opposite and make the string very soft but lacking in tension maintenance. You can compliment the different attributes of your favorite polys by using a hybrid with a different poly just like you can with a poly/multi hybrid. For instance you can choose a stiffer co-poly for control and compliment it with a softer co-poly in the crosses to add a little comfort and extra ball pocketing. Hope that helps. Cheers, Chris, TW.

    Hi TW, I just strung my Babolat pure strike with VS touch at the mains and rpm blast at the crosses(56/54 string tension). Hybrid strings is just incredible, I have never felt so good connecting with the ball. However, after just 1 hour of play I already notice some of the VS touch strings start getting a little bit hairy whilst the rpm blast looks perfectly fine. I knew natural gut is less durable but I wasn’t expecting it to lose some of its “hair” so quickly. Is this normal for natural gut ? Should I check back with my stringer ? Thanks in advance !!

    @jasonfky, You could check with your stringer, to see if he/she notices anything out of the ordinary. Natural gut will start to fray, due to friction. It is hard to say how soon that will happen, depending on the player, and stroke style. What color of the VS gut is it? I tend to prefer the natural color, over the black. Troy, TW

    Do synthetic gut strings play anywhere near true natural gut strings?

  • @tenniswarehouse

    @tenniswarehouse

    6 жыл бұрын

    @5jjt, The answer to this is somewhat subjective, and I feel that it comes down to your palette for string types. Being that I have had the chance to test many strings, I can notice some distinct differences between your typical synthetic gut (nylon) string and natural gut. Some things that I find natural gut to do better than any other string, is: provide a more responsive feel, hold tension over time, and dampen harsh vibrations. Some multifilament synthetic strings, that I have tried, such as Gamma Live Wire Professional, and Tecnifibre X-One Biphase, come close in certain categories. With that said, the feel of natural gut is somewhat unique. Troy, TW

    Great video, as always. #1 - If the benefit of copoly is ease with which that string slides over itself, and thus create lots of spin then do I lose that if I string half the bed in Poly? #2 If, after reading your blog on low tensions, I go to 40 lbs with my poly, should I also string the multi at that same tension? too many variables...tension/string type/string gauge...when I would assume 98% of my issue is stroke technique

  • @tenniswarehouse

    @tenniswarehouse

    8 жыл бұрын

    @ Steven Klurfeld, Polyester strings offer a number of different benefits, one of which is the ease with which the string slides on it. If you keep the poly in the crosses, you will still get this affect even with a different type of string in the mains. If you use it in your mains you will lose that affect. As for the tension question, that's really a matter of personal preference, but as a rule of thumb we like to suggest starting out with your poly 5-10% lower than the softer string it is accompanying. So, if you are stringing your poly at 40 lbs then try your other string around 43 lbs and see how it works for you. Andy, TW

    ***** , NRG2 is a great multifilament that we quite often recommend to people. As for shaped and textured polys, that just comes down to personal preference. Personally, I like shaped polys over textured or smooth ones, but there's lots of people that prefer those over shaped ones. Shaped and textured polys tend to grab the ball a bit better and produce more spin while smooth polys tend of offer more control, but that's also a huge generalization and certainly isn't always the case. I recommend trying different ones and finding what feels best to you. Andy, TW

    This is not necessarily true. Sometimes we find a sweetspot on a racquet to be "erratic" and not offer much control, whereas another racquet may offer similar power but not have the same "erraticism", thus offering more control. A Pure Drive is a good example of this, where it offers lots of power but at the same time is fairly predictable and controllable. Andy, TW
