Believe it or not most players are not great students of the game. They could give you basics on the equipment but couldn't tell you why they use one stick over another (just because they've always used it). Federer famously didn't know the names of the various grips he used.

On this: it’s a massive misconception that pro players use the latest and greatest racquets that release every year. As this video demonstrates, pros are so in tune with their equipment, that changing racquet styles so frequently would actually be detrimental to their game. Most of the time, when a player ‘has the latest racquet’, it’s simply just the cosmetic/paint job. Generally they’re actually using the same racquet style that they’ve been using for years and years.
Thanks for this…it’s always fun trying to use the EXACT equipment setup of my favorite pros to approximate what they are feeling during play.

Although I presume from what Roger says here, that you'd need to be returning a Nadal forehand or a Djokovic serve to actually feel that same response and control? I presume from what Roger says here that with a mere mortal firing balls at you, you'd want a different setup?
@thiagobadin5331
10 ай бұрын
using the same setup as others isn't recommended at all. That is the case because you adapt your setup accordingly to your height, how much weight do you feel comfortable swinging around, what kind of player you are facing and so on. It is a physical thing, RF specs aren't the best specs. They are specs that work for him specifically. Again, that is because of the length of his arm, his techinique, his oponents coming ball. If you string the exact same thing, you will get disappointed really fast. It won't improve your game in the least. For example: RF raquet is very heavy, gives a lot of control and lacks power. So, if you're not that athletic, lacks racket head speed or don't feel the need for more control, his raquet is not for you

@@hieu1807 you're right. More heavy = more power. However, what i heard from people that has the raquet was that it is very stiff. So, because it doesn't bend when you hit the ball, if you don't have a lot of raquet head speed, in order to make the frame bend a bit, it won't generate a lot of power. But i can be in the wrong here kkkkk

It makes perfect sense to string the longer mains at a slightly higher tension because the flex of a string corresponds to its length and thickness. The shorter cross strings should be at a lower tension to not prevent the mains to extend as the should on impact with the ball. I figured this out on my own but here's the confirmation. I go for a slightly lower tension for the crosses. Mathematically the proportion should be equal to the mains' and crosses' relative lengths.
Need more of these little detail interviews. Rather then asking about winning gran slams everytime.

What racquet is this
If I´d have known this I mightwell have icked up a couple slams a few years back.
Rackets are not as important to rec players as they think they are. It's merely the result of brand marketing. Roger + the ATP could play with a decent non-stick frying pan. People get hung up on the racket and their arm swing. But having just spent 2 days on Centre Court, and 45 years playing, I can tell you the sport is all about how you engage and move your entire body. The racket head contact is the very last element in a choreographed kinetic chain. If you think of tennis as dance, then you're closer to understanding the sport and performing each move (stroke) well. String tension makes the difference, only once you've built strong foundations. And at RF's level, 0.001% makes a difference to his shot and mindset/confidence. Roger makes it look easy, and racket companies make you believe that it will be quick and easy fix if you buy their product. As others have mentioned, the frames the pros use are all customised + paint job. Not the retail racket. Let's pray Roger's knees make a miraculous recovery, the passion and fire is reignited, and he returns for one more Wimbledon.

I see what you’re on about, and sincerely I don’t have the slightest bit of experience compared to you. But rackets do play an important part for none ATP players, so I think it should be considered. Equipments matter in sports of all kind, I myself played plenty of them, and I can tell as someone raised in a country with not the best equipments, it matters a lot, I’ve had lots of injury just cause of the poor materialed equipments I had no clue about, and it’s nice to educate players with such videos and let them know that sport is not just some sort of fun, it’s not something you jump on without any influence.

26 kg is 57.3lbs. It's important to remember that the string tension's influence on the control of the ball is also relative to a number of other factors, such as swing weight of the racquet, size of the racquet head, string pattern and type and gauge of strings used. So many factors to consider that influence the outcome, so comparing just string tensions to one another when talking about different player's racquet setups is kind of apples and oranges.
