HX35 Turbo gets another Rebuild! As of right now I am planning on going to the East Coast Diesel Nationals show in P..A. next weekend!! Who else is going!? I spent the whole day yesterday filming and trying to get ahead on videos with the 24 valve. I got the hx35 turbo rebuild kit from Turbo Lab of America installed into the turbo for the Cummins. When i pulled the hx35 off the 2nd gen Cummins and took it apart it didn't seem that the journal bearings were all that bad. The Turbo Lab of America and Diesel Auto Power hx35 turbo rebuild kits varied in the amount of parts that came in each kit, but the journal bearings seemed to bother be upgraded journal bearings and were both thicker than the stock the journal bearings I originally pulled out of the hx35 turbo. It appeared that the material may have been different for the Turbo Lab of America journal bearings. I did get a upgraded 360 degree thrust washer in the Turbo Lab of America rebuild kit, along with a new thrust collar, oil seal plate, oil deflector, etc... I did split this hx35 turbo rebuild into a 2 part video in an effort to keep video length down so that people could make it through the videos. In part two I take the truck out on a drive to see how the turbo upgrade performs after another rebuild.

It's on the truck. I got rid of the hy35 or else I would pull the hx35 and sell it before I get rid of the truck.
Use only OEM Holset parts; if you're buying your parts on eBay or Amazon and it doesn't come with any sort of OEM Holset identification, the parts are from a mainland China manufacturer and you'll likely be servicing the turbo again and again no matter how "complete" the parts kit looks by comparison. Another mistake commonly made is folks will bend the turbine head on these unintentionally when removing the turbine housing...it's something that can't be seen with the naked eye but shows up immediately on a balance machine such as my Heins TC3. Once the turbine head is bent the turbo will howl like a supercharger as boost is building and likely be boost-limited much lower than the wastegate pressure as well...this will continue until the turbine head breaks off or the vibration beats the turbine-side journal bearing out. Always choose Genuine parts and let the turbocharger repair to a professional unless it's an emergency as backyard driveway rebuilds rarely work to your advantage budget-wise.

In this video I was using my Canon G7X Mark 2. In a lot of the newer videos I am using my Canon M50 mirrorless camera and the G7X Mark 2 sometimes too.
Appreciate your videos. Now my comment is this. When you were spining the rebuildt turbo by hand it was clearly making some kind of noise!? If you spin the turbo Wheel by hand when the turbos installed it doesn't make any noise whatsoever? I can't help thinking if something isn't wrong because you said there was something wrong with the turbo that's why you pulled it apart

It was the heat shield on the exhaust side making noise, definitely not bearing noise

I purchased a brand new " henyee " HX35 for $ 160.00 . Arrived quickly , looked good , dropped right in . At that price , why rebuild?
