HX One Tonner Build - Removing the Front Cowl Panel

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I will be removing the front Cowl Panel section to inspect the rust in the Plenum section. Opened up a can of worms with this one but glad I did as it was a lot worse than I had thought.
Thanks for Watching.

Cheers for showing the windscreen disaster, I would not have had the guts to post it and it means we all get to learn from your mistake, probably saved me the cost of a new windscreen.

Haha no dramas at all mate. I think the correct way would be to use wire or it should have wire underneath that you short on a battery and it heats up. Prob just best left to the pros haha

Hay man should have asked on the hq - wb pages about your window You hook 12v power up to the two wires you had hanging out the drivers side . It heats up the glue and you just lift it up after about 20 mins . Old timers trick

When taking out the window you run wire between the window and the body to break the seal, that's what I did and popped it out

Awesome man, love your work. Seen some pretty bodge work before but that having those sections glued in is something very different... damn

Guitar wire is the trick. Also heard of plain steel wire heated up with a torch, to melt the sealant/rubber as you go.

Mate i used a stanly knife and extended the blade out about one inch and just took my time splicing. With a bit of care it can be done, you just have to be careful is all.

the window trim on my hz ute slid out. if it hasn't been taken out in a while it can be sticky but if you look on the backside of the trim there should be channels.

Mate, what an absolute pain in the arse. And a mess. Hoping mine doesn't need to come off but it's one of the main issues with these things so probably should just for good measure. Another great vid mate. As you mention, you can use wire or if it was melted in, find the ends of the wire running around the windscreen and heat it up with a powersupply and reverse the install of it.

Not saying on how to do your job but my recommendation is not to weld in the fire wall holes bc it’s never done right and can turn into a massive massive job, there’s a plate you can buy that gm produced that covers the heater hole that was for northern Australian cars

How good is it removing the cowl and plenum, such a crap job. Mine was just as bad, held together with coke cans, sikaflex, plastic bags and heaps of bog. The rest of my cab is no better, think it came from a swamp haha.

I reckon these cowls/scuttles are the weirdest deigned things in cars even to this day, why why would you route water through a chamber that you can't get inside EASILY is beyond me

@@ShenkeGarage I've seen a few cars (like 80's gemini) where the entire vent was welded shut, then the stock drains are left there, so no water is allowed down inside in the first place, but im not engineer so it might be worse, i've seen some cars where the bonnet tract is where it drains, just like a tail gate in a wagon
