HX One Tonner Build - Plenum replacement and repairs

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I will be removing the Plenum and repairing more rust underneath. This took a couple of days to complete and glad to tick this one off the list. New sections ordered from Resto Country and they arrived within a week of ordering. Unfortunately I ordered the wrong Cowl but resto country are happy to swap it for the correct one.
Hope you enjoy!

Awesome video mate, this is exactly what I’m looking at with a HJ ute I bought last year. I had no idea you could do repairs to that extent. Thanks Sam. 🤙🏽🤙🏽

Great vid Sam…. So I brought this rust bucket “cough “HQ ute… and I WISH the plenum was as “bad” as yours!!!! Mine is TOTALLY munted!!!! It aint coming back. So this vid was inspirational, I’ve done it before and swore I’d NEVER do it again. But hey I love me Q and I’m stoked about saving it!! I’d also like to give a shout out to the guys that supply the rust sections like cowls and plenums. Bloody legends helping us keep our classics on the road……. Cheers mate. 👍👌

Mate great Vid, one of the best showing the process on removing the Plenum. What thickness metal did you use for the patches, what size wire in your mig? Also anything you might have done different? Only asking as I will have have to do this in the next couple of years.Cheers!!

Thanks heaps Mate. I used 1.2mm steel for the patches. Mig wire I used .8mm with argoshield light gas. I am pretty happy with how it turned out and dont think I would do anything different except buy a new spot weld drill bit as using a blunt one takes so much more time.

Hey Mate. Its not too bad once you get into it. It just depends on how bad the plenum is gone and if you need to do repairs on the A pillars underneath. Took about 6 hrs to remove the cowl. 3 Hrs to remove the plenum then a good day to repair the A pillars either side. welding it all back together is then the easy part.

Hey mate sorry to keep boosting your videos with comments but hq to hz tonner a where the only model of those cars that actually kept the hq plenum and front the only thing that changed for tonners where dash and chassis, wbs where the only one that changed. But all other models like utes and sedans and what not changed in order, so you could use that to be period correct but if you have the hz front I’d probably send it back. Good job tho had to do similar to my hq ute and it’s a massive job
