HWH Leveling Jack Return Spring Replacement
The leveling jacks on my 2000 Winnebago needed to be replaced due to slow return when retracting the jacks. I purchased the springs directly from HWH Corporation website.
I’ve seen several videos that used cut up paint stir sticks... so I tried this with much frustration and gave up. I made a pry bar with a sliding hook and threaded rod... so much easier. The pry bar is a 1-inch steel tube, with a 1-1/4” tube that slides over the outside of the 1” tube. This tube has hooks on each side because each jack has two springs... one on each side. Lastly I drilled a 9/16” hole and inserted an 8” threaded rod. This allow full adjustment for pry length and height respectively.

Thank you...
I would like to thank you for this video. I made a tool as you did in this video. It works great. I had the new spring on both sides in less than 10 minutes. I had looked at so many videos that showed me to expand the spring and fill it with wood shims, metal washers or old paint sticks. This tool made it so easy to do I had to double check to make sure I was doing it right since it went so fast. Thank you again.

Ditto, the wood in the coils was very difficult. I did see a video just last month where I guy used his vehicle to stretch (open) the spring between the hitch on the rv and the bumper of his vehicle. He backed up his vehicle just enough to put the wood shims in between the coils. This worked nice for him; however, I would be concerned of over stretching the spring. So the pry tool seems to be the best if you have a way to build one. Can you share a picture of your custom tool? My email is coryrhanes@gmail.com
Thanks for posting this. The tool you built is an elegant solution!
Very cool ! Thx for sharing. I'll weld up a pry bar setup too. Thx again !
A simpler setup would be a 6x6 wood post cut to full length and place it under Jack(approximately 9”)..Then screw in with one screw a tie down ratchet to the post. Easy as ratcheting your boat to trailer…
On the road and the replacement spring by dealer fell off. I have two spares and will see if I can install w/o pry bar with vice grips and a good pull. Thanks for posting great instructions. N
I need return springs for one of my jacks. I called HWH, twice, a week ago, they STILL have not returned my call. They say they are busy !!
