HVL to Mississippi State - a Good move? NO! - it is a great move!

It seems like Hailey Van Lith will transfer to Mississippi State. We take a look at why this is a really good idea. Namely she will return to being coached by Sam Purcell who coached her a Louisville.

Honestly, admitting I made a mistake by going to LSU is such a brave move. For a 22 year old person, she tried options in her life and realized sometimes all it can fail. That’s learning in life. Good luck to her.

@alphasports3743
Ай бұрын
@@ivansalazar5448 Does it matter? Can she guard SGs? No ... because many time Poa played 1 and HVL played 2 she was missing open shots. Even at 1 vs Iowa when missed open shots. LSU beat Iowa because Morris hit those open shots at PG. SC beat Iowa because Johnson hit those open shots at PG and when you make those shots it forces the opponent to guard you. Lets be real HVL struggled vs D2 schools. Did you see the Middle Tennessee St game she scored 4pts in the 4th quarter. She was benched because the MST PG ran by her and scored 10pts in the 1st quarter. I think HVL missed 3 shots and one was blocked underneath the goal. So stop fooling yourself like I was fooled I thought HVL was a better shooter according to her 19pts she averaged teh year before but it was because she played more minutes and any player in the country. I was hoping she would be a better shooter than Alexis Morris when I saw her training video, especially from 3 but I was wrong. You really think HVL can guard MK12? Can she guard and 2 on SC ... SEC you have to play D and thats at any position.

@@alphasports3743 yes her missing open shots really suck. I forgot who LSU was playing against in SEC where Poa did a half court pass to Reese and Reese did a back throw pass exactly to HVL, and then HVL missed that open shot… that could be their season highlight… Defense end, honestly she doesn’t have the size to defend other guards larger than her, and doesn’t have the fast foot work to defend guards faster than her. And it’s just college. So how can she guard someone like Plum in W… Keep trying and good luck to her…

Going from LSU to Miss State, I don't see how this will helps HVLs WNBA draft status next year...because the reason she left Louisville for LSU was to hone her point guard (PG) skills. And as you said, if going to Miss State puts her back in a shooting guard role...how's that going to help her with her lack of PG skills. The biggest issue for HVL-in my humble opinion, which has ruined any chance for her being drafted in the 1st or 2nd round of next year’s WNBA draft is her lack of size, and slowness of foot. Especially on the defensive end where I don't see her being able to guard the more athletic and bigger guards in the W! She was unfortunately expose by Caitlin Clark-whom I might add is also slow of foot! when Iowa beat LSU in the Elite 8 game. That was the difference in the guards from UConn and SC who were able to interrupt Caitlin Clark’s game doing the Final 4 and Championship game-their guards had the size, foot speed, and athleticism to stay with Caitlin. Bottom line…I don’t see this help HVL improve her draft stock for next year’s WNBA draft!

Being a point guard is tough. It takes a lifetime to develop court vision and awareness. You’re the coach on the floor so you gotta have thick skin and the highest basketball IQ on the team. You lose it’s on you. You win it’s on you. If you’re being coached by a pg it’s even harder. Changing positions this late in a career and that quickly is a recipe for disaster. HVL did the best she could but it shouldn’t have happened so quickly without a solid guard to study under.

If she had come in her freshman year, she would have been developed. Too late to come now as she won't get the playing time she needs. Miss. State is her best chance to play catch-up. going to MSU would be a brilliant move for HVL. 1 - she's going to a coach who she has an established and POSITIVE relationship with. Who knows how to coach her up AND put her in positions to succeed. 2. Shes playing with another dynamic guard who has exp playing w/ HVL. 3. (and most importantly) she will be playing in the SEC where she will still be playing in the best conference. She will have the ball in her hands AND be able to play off the ball...maybe even have a play called for her instead of whatever Kim was doing last year. If she plays her cards right she will be able to ramp up playing "lesser" teams up until conf play/tourney starts, where ideally she will have the hang of the new offense and teammates and will be able to be easily scouted by WNBA teams due to still playing against pwr house SEC teams and her NIL may even increase due to the MSU boosters and pretty decent WBB history of success
Got it!
She would be a star at MTSU!!! She will have a hall of fame coach! He has a track record of putting girls in the wnba. Alisha Clark for example.
For someone so smart she got a 4 year degree in 3 years at Louisville she's not a great decision maker. For HVL to go to the fourth or fifth best team in the SEC is pretty ridiculous. Unless she gets like 18 to 20 shots a game. Going to LSU really set her back for the WNBA. She should have been advised better by her parents. But no Hailey just wanted to go where the party was and play PG which we all know is not going to work. And going to a team in the Tigers with a maniac coach I was a dictator and a bunch of selfish players was nit was not a good idea. HVL is my favorite female player so I wish her well wherever she goes. She has to play the 2.

I don't like the move. She won't be a primary PG at Miss St., and if her goal is to make it to the WNBA, what more can she possibly improve upon with another year in college? She should have just declared for the draft, especially since other guards like Charlisse Leger-Walker (WSU) & Georgia Amoore (Kentucky/Va. Tech) returned and been a late 1st - early 2nd rd pick. @@back2sports988 It wasn't a criticism by any means. I also think the story itself is very interesting. She has a large following, so of course simply in terms of absolute numbers, there will be many haters and supporters. It's not clear what the proportion of haters and supporters is though. I think HVL is way better than what was demonstrated this past year at LSU. One thing that always caught my attention watching LSU games and highlights is that every time the ball is in the post or paint, there are always double or triple teams on the bigs. And yet they rarely kick out to HVL. In my opinion, this single detail, if implemented would have made them so much better and potentially unstoppable. She is a very good shooter, but her shots this year were mostly off the dribble going towards the paint. The bigs would force things, and I think the entire dynamic reflects badly on Mulkey's coaching ability.
@mvfe212

Honestly, I think that even if you replaced HVL with Caitlin Clark on that team, assuming that the system is the same, I don't see Caitlin performing much better as point guard. Sure, she would score because she has much higher confidence and gren light than HVL and would shoot from far out. But her assists would be way down. The system and big-centered-culture is the problem at LSU. The players and the ball don't move in a continuous dynamic and this is true both in the half court and in transition. It's also why their success is no indication that their bigs will succeed at the next level. They rely a lot on brute force. Now of course, nothing is absolute. Flaujae is definitely a demonstration of high-level finesse-based skill. The sort that succeeds at the next level.
