I know I've only done this for 3 years but all 3 years of my apprenticeship have been in service... I have shorted hundreds of run caps with a screw driver and not once have I had something bad happen... knock on wood

It did not went to 47 amp like he said after power up, it just went up to 14 amp still not getting the start up amperage.

I did not see 47 either but video capture rates can make videos not what they are in real life. Intention was good. He mentions 2.5% on either side of the rated value since 2.5 is half of 5. This is incorrect. If the capacitor is rated at 40 microfarads with 5% then you need a reading between 38 and 42. Really good video overall. Thanks
Yea but if we aren't getting 24 v to energize the contactor could they also be related to a bad cap??

No. Thats from the thermostat or the transformer in the air handler.

No,one side is low volt and the other is line voltage.
I have a R 22 unit but it does not have a low side service valve . How can i get pressure check ?

+drywalller can you follow the big line that might have some black insulation on it (Suction Low Pressure Line) where it goes into the unit. Some have a panel to remove to expose the connection. It would surprise me if the line went directly to the compressor without a service port. What is the make?
Didn't realize the system can run properly without connecting to the Common terminal of the Run Capacitor. ???
