Husqvarna 390XP vs China Clone Husky 372

It's not really a true comparison because these are saws of different cc's, but I just thought I'd like to share with you how similar these saws are and even power wise are quite similar (with the 37 inch bar on the 390xp being the equalizer).

Not sure what you use today to sharpen your chains in woods, but back in " 1976" we were taught to sharpen w round file putting saw on your lap, hand sharpening each tooth by hand !!

Sometimes I do that but mostly use a bench sharpener now...I think I have 8 or 9 saws and many chains, my chainsaw mill chain is 6 feet long and has 225 teeth on them so not practical to do by hand eh!

Hello, I was looking for Jonsereds chain saw. I bought my first when I was 15 yrs old here in New Hampshire USA. Jonsereds 801, 20 " bar. At 15 I had to go to work. I worked for a Logger, by 16 I was running a Skidder ( baddest ass machine made, lol),, climbing and topping huge line trees, 1st top was SCAREY as hell, I thought the swinging back & forth would never stop. Lol Yikes ! So I was looking online and This video came up. I just found your channel today April 26, 2023. I 🙏🙏 Pray you are well and still at it. I would like more info on this knock off saw please. I am now 63, have very hard time getting around, on SSDI, I need Double Knee Replacements and Lower Back Surgery, & started developing neuropathy in rt foot so I been using a cane to get around. BUT I come from the camp, NEVER QUIT ! I think you posted this video 2yrs ago in 2021 ? Not sure But I'm very glad I found it. Can you give me info on the smaller saw from Gerry? How do you like it, are you still using it ?? My name is Jim Gibbs, can't find Jonsereds any more ?? I'd love to try one of these you're using Please. If not too expensive. I live month to month.

Great video!! I only cut firewood for heating the house (6 or 7 chords per year) and some shooting lane clearing so i dont need a big CC saw. I have an Echo 600P and a husky 562xp both with 24" bars. The 562 is a beast of a saw, above and beyond the Echo. I bought the Echo about 5 years ago and cant complain about the price or reliability. Have only had the 562 a few months so we will see how it holds up. It has the electronic tuning and i worry about how it will last.

Just subscribed. Great video. I own 100 acres of hardwood here in Ontario. I’ve been running a husqy 359 but it’s just to small. Was gonna buy a Husqy 572xp but its $1450 I discovered the China 🇨🇳 saws. Waiting on a MS660 Stihl knock Off. It was $548 delivered. Taking a chance but saving about $750. Hope it works.

interesting video and comments, thank you! I started with saws in the early 70's, never could get comfortable with Stihl...too pricey for me and some of their issues just made them an over hyped saw for my taste. Now in the late life stage I have the chainsaw disease real bad again and watching the development of the Chinese clones has finally coaxed me into trying them out. I just took delivery on a 372 and a 288, never started them, just went straight to a tear down because I wanted to see firsthand just how they are. These saws are still very controversial, claims of bad bearings, soft rods, bad cylinders and pistons, bad carburetors...it goes on and on. But then too there are a lot of sawyers that see these saws have made tremendous gains in quality. I found the fit, finish and apparent quality of these saws to be pretty darn good. The 372 had a badly scuffed piston on the intake port, either cylinder burrs or a load of crap from the carburetor. Other wise I could find nothing, in a near total tear down, that raised red flags. The crank and rod tested pretty hard, a file could not put much of a mark on it. Fasteners were tightened about right and every part was where and as it should be. The 288 was not as good, the crank was not centered so I had to adjust that. The cylinder and piston looked fine, except that the circlips seemed peened into place, I had to really get work to get them out. There were parts not installed correctly, including the ignition kill wires and the air diverter around the flywheel, but all fasteners were right. The air diverter was warped out of position and had a large rub through from the flywheel...so much for their "passed inspection" label on the saw! The hardness of the crank assembly seemed good by the file test. Pressure and vacuum test on both saws proved them sealed tight. Both saws rotated super smooth. The bearings are not S&K, but labeled S&G I think it was. I got to thinking, I have been told for a long time that most all bearings are made in China so I guess there can be grade differences, but these saws have been in use for several years now and I am not hearing of crank failures. I did top end changes to both saws and opened up the exhaust ports. I am pretty confident that they will stand up to the use I will demand. Without a doubt the quality control of these saws is a crap shoot, but if you are able and willing to tinker with them the value potential is outstanding. One channel I watch had what I think is real good advice, run high oil ratio, it is perhaps the key to durability, if there is a weak point with softer bearings.

Badass Louie!! That saw does have a clone carb. I can’t say that I’ve ever had an issue with the clone carbs, but there’s a first time for everything. If you can’t tune that bog out, maybe try an OEM husqvarna carb. I’m a dork. I timed your cuts, and I have to say I expected the 390 to walk all over that 372 (even with the difference in bar size). But I was surprised to see the 372 was 4 seconds faster on the second cut! Truely awesome.

$1200! now for a 372. I think the chain was a bit dull on the 390, but that's still an impressive 372 copy. I got my 372 20 years ago and its been great. Bucking 18" hardwood almost makes you wonder why you'd want a processor.

Seems obvious that the 372 clone needs a tad more fuel on (H). Historic mfg instructions, and AutoTune design both go for (H) setting giving max rpm under load. Setting (H) for specific rpm @WOT with no load, is a kludge, a joke- just makes cleanup easier for dlr, with no wood chips all about. As a **starting point only** you could adjust carb properly from there. Muffling is good, for audiophiles; mo-noise is bad.
