I read the old 2 stroke scooters often used a straight megaphone/cone style expansion pipe because it provided the most benefit/power at wide open throttle since they're rode at WOT most of the time.....And that dirt bikes use a curvy shaped expansion pipe for added power throughout the whole throttle range, plus ground clearance. They could easily build 2 stroke dirt bikes with a scrambler style straight expansion pipe. That'd have plenty of ground clearance but would only mainly benefit when hitting WOT....I see some scooter pipes that are mostly straight with some slight bends & curves. I'm not sure if it's only for clearance issues. Or if they're trying to make the pipe create a bit of mid range power without taking too much away from WOT.
@nhytg376tgyuu765gjmg
Жыл бұрын
No, I don't think so. What I have read (Gordon Jennings) is they use the megaphone style exhaust before the curvy expansion pipe, with the reflection cone, was invented (in East Germany). The megaphone did give more power than a straight pipe but the addition of the reflection cone was superior in every way to only a megaphone. How steep the angle of the reflection cone is determinates how broad the rpm range the resonator pipe will work in. Steep angle = strong reflection pulse / narrow power band. And resonator pipe usually use a stinger pipe (which is missing or hidden inside on the resonator pipe in this vid) the diameter and length determines how strong the pipe will supercharge the engine, more restriction = more power -until the engine overheats.

The length of the expansion chamber determinates where it comes on. The dimensions of the stinger determinates how hard it will charge the cylinder. More restriction equals more power but to much restriction will overheat the engine. It's a very fine line between max power and overheating.
