Ya know. Through happenstance I ended up with a ton of high end tool storage, NewAge Shelving set, Milwaukee 72" tool chest etc etc. I have a awesome shop. Then.. realized most my drawers are empty. What tools I do have are mostly hodgepodge. Sooo now I am saving up (I'm retired now, looking to do the KZread thing for fun, but money is tight.) to get some new tools for once for all these projects I have planned. Long story short, I appreciate your reviews. I'm not a tool snob who is brand loyal to anyone at the moment, so this allows me to see what folks are putting through there paces and listen to your advice.

Purchased the 290 piece and the box and drawers are garbage, they get stuck, hard to slide in and out, returned it and just bought the 194 piece that’s a carrying case, it’s really nice plus it has more deep sockets and wrenches then the 290 piece one, most of the extras on the larger amount are small screw driver tips and torex tips which u really don’t use

Thanks for making this video. I look forward to these high quality videos. I have not been able find this set in my area. So at least I can see it here. I finally bought the Craftsman. I did return it when I had problems with the ratchets. Then I went and bought 290 piece Husky. I am very happy with it. I can’t believe it does not come with a 13 mm wrench!

I've got quite a few sets myself. So far out of the budget options my preference is the Husky ratchets. Your custom kit looks similar sized to one of my smaller ones. My best custom kit uses one of the three drawer military portable tool chests. Very water resistant, impact resistant, drawers come out for setting up a work area, has wheels to make it rolling, and it can lock too. It's awesome for when a friend needs help at his shop, I basically get to take along my own tool truck with that case :)

Very good video, I was in a toss up between the Pittsburgh and the husky set as a Christmas present for myself that my wife is getting me. Because of shipping mainly and not being able to get the 20% off discount from HF my wife chose the husky set. So I'm very happy you looked into like this. Of course HF dropped the 20% of sale after she purchased the husky 🙄. But honestly I've been into VWs and Audis for over 25 years and just started doing my own. Oil changes and brakes so the husky will definitely get me in the right direction. Thanks again for video, great 👍.

I have the husky tool set. Bought it a home depot during the black Friday sale. It was 149$ & add the tax total was like 178$ I use the tool set more for the inside house work. Building book shelves, desks, chairs, etc, that's the tool set is mostly used for. Also the wrenches in the tool set. If you buy the husky wratchet 30 piece tool set, those wrenches will fit in the grooves. So now my husky tool set has wratchet wrenches making it that much better. I also have a craftsmen tool set like 278 piece, & that is for outside, working on cars & garage type.

Ive just bought one of those Husky 290 piece sets at HD for $169 primarily for the deep sockets and ring wrenches. I have other Gedore blue, Fixman and Ampro socket sets that go over 30mm and have universal joins etc in both 1/2 inch and 3/8. This Husky set is clearly built to a price but for $169 its extensive enough and i do like that case but its far from the only socket set ill need and i trust my Gedore rachets more as they feel a lot more robust but those sets cost a lot more. I too have felt the chrome feels like its peeling off off the edges of the sockets. These do win the beauty contest vs the Gedore but these feel nowhere near as sturdy. For $169, they're great! for their normal price of $254, id rather buy pieces individually i need from Gedore etc.

Such a great series. Wouldn’t hurt to add in things like I notice, how easy is the set to carry? How bulky are the boxes? Can they fit in a tool box in the bed of the truck easy? Under or behind a seat? Just a few more talking points to help improve the channel. How easy are the sockets to read? I’ve had lovably sockets have the numbers rub off making it impossible to tell.

I think Husky messed up with so many 12 point sockets. Having them in 1/2 drive is damn near the norm, but no reason to have them in 3/8 as well. Real interested to see your custom set. I’ve been wanting to throw together a road call bag for myself at work. We’ve got a service truck, but it’s fairly limited in what it has on it.

Old school mechanic here, I bought the 290pc husky set it was on sale at the time & for a decent price at $129.99. So I gut it they way I wanted to work for me. First off I decided to have my metric 12pt & my SAE 6pt. Because the way husky had the 6pt & 12pt were way off in 1/2, 3/8, & 1/4 drive sockets. So I customize the way I needed to be, first off I got rid of the combination wrenches & went with Olsa 6pt ratcheting wrench set for the SAE side & for the Metric side I went with Gearwrench 12pt ratcheting wrenches, which by the way fit perfectly in the molded slots. As far as my drive ratchets, I went with the Tekton button release 90th drive ratchet on the 1/2 & 3/8 & for the 1/4 drive ratchet I went with the gearwrench 120xp which is not button release. All three drive ratchets fit well in the molded slots. As for the socket 1/2 drive I went with the Tekton 6pt SAE & for Metric I went gearwrench 12pt sockets. For 3/8 sockets I went with husky 6pt & gearwrench 12pt. As for 1/4 sockets went with Tekton SAE 6pt & 12pt metric gearwrench That also goes for both deep and shallow in the brands I list above. As far as the space for were the allens were stored. I removed them & replace them with the gearwrench 20pc extension set along with the husky 3/8 button release locking flex head drive ratchet which all those items fit perfectly well in that space. As for the drawers not sliding out when carrying it around. As when you open the top to reveal the large sockets. I drilled a hole 🕳 that goes through both drawers from top to bottom, and slid a long heavy duty pin that goes through the holes to support the drawer from falling out when when lugging the box around. Overall cool review. But hay that's just my opinion on the husky 290pc tool box.

Thank you for the informative video. My friend has this set but the drawer are in red and the sockets that are in the first drawer (from the top) interfere with the housing when pushing the drawer back to its place. So he has to push the drawer a bit downward to close it. The sockets on that drawer are placed vertically (shallow sockets) and I think they are a bit too tall. Is this issue normal? Thanks.

For the extra $50, the 290pc Husky gives you a much better selection of sizes than the 270pc Husky. The 270pc skips more or excludes more. I bought the 290pc Husky 1yr ago. Ratchets are very nice for the price and warranty is simply walking in to Home Depot. Good selection of sizes. Only 24x 12-point in 3/8. All 1/2 are 12pt, but this seems to be the standard these days unfortunately. Main gripe is there's no 13mm wrench....but I snuck it into the case.

I know what you mean. I bought so many husky tools during the black Friday sale. I bought this one. The 60$ 30 piece wratchet set. The 25 extra lil pieces like u joints, extension. 3/8 torque wrench, Cresent 🔧& maybe some flashlights . Anyways, the wratchet husky wrenches fit in the 290 tool set grooves. So I traded them to the set. & sure the 13mm wrench isn't there, but the 1/2 wrench technically is the same. . .
